Monday Musings ~ April 14, 2025

Considering it was in the mid-80’sF a mere couple of days ago, Wilson and I woke up to a bit of a surprise this morning. The wild wonderful wacky work of springtime in the Rockies.

Surprise snow

Let’s just hope it doesn’t impact the butterflies we saw on our daily walks. I had to chuckle when I found today’s smile which just reminds us of how spring can quickly morph from the “chrysalis” stage. Hope your Monday beautifully emerges today and throughout the week.

Monday smile - butterfly

P.S. Don’t forget this public service reminder, tomorrow is the tax filing deadline in the US. While our return was submitted weeks ago, the refund arrived quicker than expected (and equally quickly spent), we know some folks wait until the last day to file.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. It must be so exciting to have such pronounced changes in the various seasons. Here, we just move between hot, hotter, hottest and rainy 😂😂

    1. Bwahahaha. You’re too funny. Some times we can enjoy multiple seasons in one week! 😆

  2. Oh gosh about the snow! We had frost which is crazy! My redbud tree didn’t like it!
But today was nice and the weekend should be as well! Spring is finally showing her good side. 🙂

  3. I love that cartoon! We had a splash of snow on Saturday. Not welcome. About an inch or two, but it didn’t last long. I hope your week warms up and settles down a bit.

  4. No s’now here, but equally wonky weather, from 80s to 30s in just a few days. The poor flowers and trees simply know not what to do! And I had foolishly packed away some “wintery wear” … all to hopeful perhaps. YET: per some there is no such thing as climate change, huh? Hello Wilson, happy meows to you!

    1. Makes you wonder if Mother Nature is as exhausted with the yo-yo weather she’s dishing out. Yeah, right…”there’s no such thing as climate change.” Growl. Yesterday’s snow melted quickly and provided a nice drink for thirsty plants. Today I saw a lilac bush in bloom. In April!!! #goodgrief

    1. In a high mountain desert climate, moisture is never a mistake. The dusting didn’t last long and the day turned out to be quite gorgeous. I’m hoping she repeats later this week. 🤞🏼

  5. We still have beautiful weather, we got some April showers, but the plants were very happy with that, we don’t want snow…no no no…🙏MOL on the cartoon, that was to funny. Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day sweet Wilson and Monika🐾😽💞

    1. So pleased you enjoyed our Monday smile. That little surprise snow melted very fast and the garden is very happy with the moisture. The evenings are cool but the days this week will be delightful. We hope for more moisture in a few days.

    1. Thank you-it was a beautiful surprise. Alas it melted quickly and was one of those gorgeous spring days. Any more whenever I look as ID photos in particular and then look in the mirror, I have to ask myself who is THAT person. Hahaha

  6. Lulu: “Our Dada’s driver’s license picture is also an old one. It’s so old, he still had all that hair he supposedly used to have!”
Charlee: “We’ve been here eight years and we’ve never seen this alleged hair of his. I think it’s probably a doctored photo.”

    1. Last year I was able to renew my driver’s license online and they used the old photo which is at least 10 years old and shows me with very long hair. Now whenever I have to present my ID, the reactions are priceless.

    1. You got that right. Once the skies cleared, the snow was gone and it turned into a gorgeous day.

    1. Not to sound ungrateful, but since the tax code was overhauled in 2017, this was the smallest refund. Somebody is getting the benefit of those tax revisions.

  7. Hope you’re all safe and warm Monika and thank you for sharing this fun cartoon! ❤️ xxx

    1. Our pleasure, Xenia. I chuckled out loud when I saw that cartoon. Hope you have a wonderful week. The snow melted very quickly and it turned into an exquisite spring day.

  8. That cartoon made me think of me returning home last week….does anyone ever look like their passport photograph?

    1. Not very much. You’re require to pose as if you’re in a police lineup and no smile. Period.

With passports lasting ten years, sometimes I wonder ‘who was that person?’ I just hope they let me back in. I’ve yet to meet an agent with a sense of humor-I realize their’s may not be the best job in the world but a little grace would be welcome instead of the side eye. Once I told a TSA agent who kept glancing at the ID pic and then me repeatedly as if he doubted my existence. I was kind of in a hurry to get through since I was running late so casually remarked, “I’m so much better looking in person, aren’t I? He starting laughing and sent me on my way.

    1. Thanks, John. Yes, it is a redbud. It’s ironic, I never notice this tree that’s across the alley after it blooms-as trees, they’re so nondescript once leafed out but with snow on those gorgeous blooms it is really something lovely. Like you, I do my taxes as early as I receive all my documentation-hate having it hang over my head on a ‘to-do’ list.

  9. Minnesota is the same way, shorts one day, a foot of snow the next, LOL! Love that funny. Thanks for the tax reminder. Sadly, we owe as Mom made a mistake, she is not good with financial stuff and she didn’t bother to ask the accountant. She scheduled the payments to go out tomorrow. We submit super early for refunds but schedule for the last day if we pay. We don’t want to give up our money until we have to. Have a Grand week.

    1. That’s the way to do it…early on refunds, postmark on the 15th when taxes are owed. Although I’ve tried to do my own returns, I gave up. It was like trying to read Yugoslavian and I’m not bilingual in that language. 😉 That little trace of snow was gone in a flash and the sun is out now. This will be a cooler week than last, thank heavens. We no likey the heat, especially in April! Happy Monday.

    1. I know what you mean about the temps of late. It was 90F at my Dad’s house (mid-80’sF at my house). It’s too doggone early for those kinds of temps even if it’s still cool on the lows. Mother Nature needs some hormone medication! Happy Monday.

        1. I once told a TSA officer when he looked at my ID and then back at my face a couple of times, “I’m so much better looking in person, aren’t I?” He cracked up and hustled me through the line. 😉

    1. Nature must have heard you, that tiny little skiff of snow is already melted which is exactly why I like spring storms. Moisture without snow shoveling. 😉 Happy Monday.

    1. Indeed, it was gone quickly and while crisp, it’s a lovely Monday. Hope yours is too.

        1. It could stay that way all summer long in my books! Here’s hoping the rest of the week is that lovely.

  10. So glad we have an accountant who does our taxes. One less thing for me to do. And the cartoon is funny. I feel like that about some of the photos on my various IDs!

    1. Yes, this time of year, there should be lots of God Bless CPA’s uttered frequently!

I was looking at my passport pic and thought it’s a real wonder that they ever let me back in. 😉 Happy Monday

  11. It’s spring so anything can happen weather wise. We were in the 80s yesterday. Beautiful day.

I laughed out loud with your funny. Good one.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. A big hug to you and lots of scritches to Wilson. ♥

    1. Spring is the fickle-est of all the holidays. The others-well we all know where they stand. With spring you just can never be sure. We’re still gonna like it though. Thanks for linking us to your Monday blog hop. Have a great Monday, Sandee. Hope it’s a great week for you and the kitties.

  12. We had a good dusting of snow on Saturday. It was depressing as it’s been cold all week and continues to be “not nice.” Temps should moderate but we’re not looking at warm and sunny. More like somewhat warmer but rainy or dreary. Hello spring! Where are you!

    1. Sounds like spring in your area is a bit shy. I’m sure she’ll emerge soon. Happy Monday.

  13. Holly and I were just commenting yesterday bout our mild winter / early Spring this year. And then immediately acknowledged Memorial weekend several years ago when we had a lot of snow on the ground and falling. Mother Nature, as we know, can be fickle. Best not to fight with her (although I do!) and take what she gives us. Hoping you have a quick melt off and get back into the sunny days this week at the ranch. Have a super duper week whatever the forecast may be!

    1. You’re so right about spring being fickle. I always say if you don’t like the current weather, wait 10 minutes and it’s sure to morph into something you will like. Happy Monday, Michael.

    1. Oh gosh, sure hope you can quickly get verified. We’ll keep our paws crossed for you. Have a good Monday.
