Monday Musings ~ January 5, 2025

It’s not that I dislike Mondays, it’s just that Monday reminds me that I have to adult. Two major house hiccups occurred over the weekend (I’m still on the phone with Whirlpool after being on hold for 25+ minutes 😬). I just wasn’t prepared for this after enjoying a lovely weekend. So what adulting do you have to do today if you don’t have to go to work?

Monday

We hope your day of adulting goes well and if anyone has any pull with Whirlpool, let me know. There’s gotta be a better way to get through to them regarding a problem with a brand spanking new appliance. Grrr.

Happy Monday! Have a great week.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. Very sorry about that, Paul. Not sure what happened but I’ll keep a eye out to see what’s going on. I looked to see if perhaps it got sent to the spam folder but it wasn’t there. Sometimes I just don’t understand how or why Google operates the way it does. Be well.

  1. Ugh, on your Whirlpool problems! Especially when its brand new! Whirlpool is a good name. Hope you got it taken care of now. Sorry, I am behind with your posts. With this being my last week with my son, I have been behind with reading all posts.

    1. Don’t apologize for spending time with your first born! I totally get it. Yeah, the repair guy said the model I have is a good one-just that this particular unit had a bad control board. I hope they can come out next week to replace it otherwise I’ll be running out of underwear! (I know TMI-sorry).

  2. My adulting today involves the vacuum cleaner. I’d rather do that, though, than sit on hold. Sorry that you’re having to deal with that. Hopefully it will work out, and you’ll get some excellent customer service. Crossing my fingers for you. 😀

    1. Many thanks for the well wishes. As I suspected, the repairman confirmed the control board was defected and had failed. A new one was ordered and hopefully it will arrive and get installed soon. My laundry is growing by leaps and bounds! 😁

  3. Sweet doggie, we don’t know why either😹 We also come to wish you, dear Wilson, a happy Gotcha Day and many more to come. Extra very festive Pawkisses for the occassion🐾😽🎉

    1. Many thanks. I totally spaced it out. Thankfully the Cat Blogosphere reminded me. They’re the best!

  4. Adulting is just too hard for Mrs. B and I, so we chose to never actually grow up. We just fake it when it comes time to having to be old-er. We’ve been lucky enough to (knocking on wood as I type this) have the major appliances last as long as we’ve lived at our current address (20 years). The only incident we’ve had is one too many power outages finally sapped the life out of the electric oven control module. That just needed swapped out. I am hopeful by the time I comment Whirlpool has initiated the process of making things right. When stuff like this needs to be dealt with on a Monday, I try to look at it like we’ve gotten the bad stuff out of the way early, and the rest of the week will be much happier. Have a good one, Monika!

    1. I totally get it. Adulting is the pits, but especially on a Monday following a lovely weekend.

Back 20 years ago, this country actually made good major appliances. Now they’re built with planned obsolescence built in. A wedding gift from 1967 last over 30 years and was only replaced by a heavy stand mixer. Repairman will be here late tomorrow so we’ll see what the verdict is then. I suspect it’s gonna require ordering parts that will take who knows how long to get from overseas. Sigh. I wonder if I can still find a wash board on Etsy? Swallowing the bad medicine early in the week makes the rest easy on the palate. 🤞🏼 Hope yours is swell and not too cold. We hoping for some white stuff later this week.

    1. Boy, ain’t that the truth! Despite the advances in technology, adulting can be very challenging. Some days I just want to “Peter Pan” instead. 😉 Happy Monday.

  5. When that maddeningly indifferent automated message begins with “Your call is very important to us”, I reply with “No, my call is very important to ME. If it really was that important to YOU, I wouldn’t be speaking to an X-Box!”.

Sorry about the Whirlpool nonsense. I relate.

Adulting only makes sense after I pour myself a cold one, really.

Here’s to a better rest of the week.

    1. Thanks, Marc. Whenever one receives that message, I suddenly turn into an eye-rolling, recalcitrant teenager. The quest for profits is so consuming with many corporations and while I get the importance of it, discounting the very people who make it possible, really gets my dander up. It just seems absurd to wait for a customer service rep for nearly an hour. At least some companies will include a message that they will call you back ‘because they value your time.’ That, I can at least respect. Have a good week.

      1. Hahaha!

Yeah I am so done with the selling of everything, everywhere, all the time. And like you said, it’s all coming with a cost. To people who do not deserve that cost to be taken out on them.

        Happy Wednesday mama

  6. That’s so very frustrating. I did a “fun” adulting today and went to get my nails done. (Only the 2nd time since 2014) Or maybe that was actually playing. 😏

    1. Good for you! I’ll bet they look fabulous, too. Here’s hoping the rest of the week is that lovely.

  7. Hope you’ll get it fixed soon Monika and may your week get better and better 🤗❤️🍀 xxx

    1. Many thanks. It’ll get fixed-it just may take some time and patience on my part.

  8. Seems silly to be forced to repair a new item, but that’s how it is these days. I hope it is not the motherboard, too. Those things take forever. We had a Thermador refrigerator in our last house. The motherboard went out at the five-year mark. Thermador, of course, had discontinued that model but offered to create a new board for $1600.00.(or buy a new refrigerator for $6000.) I found a company that repairs motherboards and sent it to them. It was back in 3 days for $90.00. If it is the board, I hope they have the part. If not, tell them to order a new on on Amazon

    1. Appliance manufacturers leave a lot to be desired these days. Yikes, I cannot believe they actually ‘offered’ that kind of a deal. Talk about no shame. A repair person will be here Wednesday, I hope it’s not a motherboard (my neighbor has had multiple problems with his, and continues to wait from the request to replace it last September! {Gulp}

  9. Guud Luck Miss Monika. Wee hope you get thingss sorted out an fixed.
BellaSita adulted alot today: Shee shovelled snow; fedd THE Flying 126 Squadron (Sparrowss); did dishess; put rest of laundry away; cleened bathroom an meowed to a frend an Aunty Melinda an answered textss….Whew I’m tired just watchin her zoomie around……
Happy Monday Miss Monika an Wilson <3 BellaDharma <3 an {{hugss}} BellaSita Mum

    1. Thank you; I hope it can be resolved easily enough but with my luck, I’m not overly optimistic. Tell your mum to slow down a bit-Rome wasn’t built in a day. 😂

        1. Good to hear that. Rest is even more important for people and pets who experience seizures. Hugs and tail wiggles.

  10. And what is adulting anyways??
I don’t have to pretend to be an adult until Friday when I have to go to my work…which these days is about 3-4 times a month…I love working as a casual instead of on a regular schedule.

    1. It’s very liberating when you can do that. The last year I worked at the law firm was excruciatingly hard for me. Lots of stuff going on at home (my mom was very sick and I drove down to spend the weekends with her and wore myself out). Add a demanding boss who only cared about results and I got so burnt out. I was never so glad as to give my notice even though I loved my colleagues.

  11. I wish you all the best for your whirlpool. Sounds like you’re going down the whirlpool of phone tag and other horrors with your washer. UGH.
Let’s hope the other appliances that came with your home last longer than your washer!

We have a Kenmore water and dryer bought in 1987, and they still are giving us good service. Even though sears is no longer…Each time we need service of any kind for them they take one look and say,’ wow, you have these still? Don’t get rid of them anytime soon!’
They just don’t make them like in the past, it seems they are made with built in timers to break down after a certain amount of time! Grrr! Let’s hope our fridge which is years younger doesn’t kink out, its a hard to find size these days…We just had our stove (oven) repaired and the repairman said the same thing about that appliance. He said the ‘starters’ in them eventually burn out ours was from the late 90’s…

    1. Thanks. They sure don’t make them like they used to. I had a Sunbeam hand mixer that I got as a wedding gift back in 1967. It’s lasted over 30 years!

I had bought a new fridge for my old house a year ago and had a devil of a time finding one that would fit in my narrow space. I think I only found 3 models. Just wish we made things like we used to instead of the expensive garbage that we see now.

  12. We don’t like adulting here either. Being retired we don’t do much, but there are times.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. Many thanks for including us in your hop. Adulting is hard, especially if you’re a kid at heart. 😂 Happy Monday.

  13. I’m sorry about your appliance. I have no suggestion. Sometimes the dealership will intervene but now sure if they still do that. Good luck. I need a break from adulting.

    1. The home builder supplies the appliances for the entire development (they were included in the purchase price). I just hope a remedy can be quickly and effectively be found. I don’t need this kind of aggravation.

    1. Awk…that would be adding insult to injury! You’re so right, these appliance manufacturers don’t make things like they used to. I remember having a hand mixer that I received as a wedding gift in 1967-it last over 30 years!

So sorry about your dishwasher. I’ve only washed 3 loads of laundry since I moved in…I honestly thought it’d last longer.

  14. Adulting, no thanks. 😉 Like Jimmy Buffett says, grow older but not up. Lots of songs written about or with Monday. Come Monday (Jimmy), Monday Monday ( Mamas and the Papas), Monday Morning (Fleetwood Mac). I hope Whirlpool at least has some good hold music for ya. Have a great week, in spite of, the house hiccups, out at The Barn.

    1. Thanks Mike. I think they decided to no longer pay royalties for music, I just got to listen to recording repeatedly telling me where to find the model and serial numbers. I felt like I could have built a new washer in the amount of time I was on hold. I share Jimmy Buffett’s thoughts about growing up. Happy Monday.

  15. I decided at age 21 I didn’t want to be an adult so like Peter Pan did not ever grow up, not really. And sorry: once upon a time, lived in St. Joseph/Stevensville, Michigan and our next door neighbor? HQ for Whirlpool, maybe coulda helped. But no longer there and don’t think they are either (gone offshore, maybe even sunk when went off-shore, ha ha). So all we can say is best wishes, good luck and happy laundering/washing/drying or cooking (whatever the WP was supposed to do for you!).

    1. Thanks for the good luck wishes. Yeah, sadly we no longer make things in the states. Everyone went offshore to boost profits. Now to boast profits, they try to sell you an extended warranty. Grrrr

  16. Mom dislikes Mondays because it means time to work again. Thankfully it is her own business and we all hang out with her in the home office all day but she would rather do fun stuff! As for the appliance, there is no more customer service in this country. Humans have been replaced with a rabbit hole of recorded messages, some that talk to you. It makes Mom so very mad as it wastes so much time and the recordings say how nice it is…NOT! Most of the time, talking to a person would have solved the issue in a few minutes but no, you are stuck in the automated system forever and accomplish nothing! Can you call the store where the appliance was purchased and get help that way? Good luck!

    1. Thank you. I think I’m going to need a lot of luck. Yeah, it took forever to be connected with a real live person and then it was the wrong department so I chad to wait again. I just wish manufacturers made products like they used to. Now it’s just thrown together with spit, a prayer and luck. Unfortunately the builder has an arrangement for the appliances they supply. At first I thought it was a good idea, now I’m regretting that it came with the house. A service guy is coming out on Wednesday and will no doubt need to order a part (or motherboard). Meanwhile, the dirty clothes pile up. Eek!

  17. Lulu: “It seems like our Dada ALWAYS has to go to work on Monday …”
Java Bean: “Sí, but at least all of our appliances are so old that if one breaks down our Dada calls the local repairman, not the manufacturer, right?”

    1. I wish I’d kept the washer from the old house. Sigh. Service guy comes out on Wednesday. I hope it’s something minor but suspect it’ll be a motherboard. Not a fan of these electronic appliances.

  18. Nor mine! I remember the oven we had in France…..every thunderstorm knocked it out and it finally met its end when it imprisoned Leo’s supper. He took a screwdriver to it…..

    1. I’m looking for a sledgehammer. It’s probably in one of the boxes in the garage. 😬

    1. You can say that again, at least today. I’m moaning a lot after being on hold for an hour before Whirlpool finally talked to me. Today’s adulting is muy no bueno.

  19. Somethings up with the manufacturing of equipment. It’s not like the old days. Our brand spanking new Bravia TV took about five calls to technicians–some in France–to fix. Some could help; some ran us in circles. Good luck! You hope buying a name brand will work, like Whirlpool. Sigh.

    1. Nearly all appliances are manufactured overseas these days and you’d be right observing that it’s not like the ‘good old days.’ My old washer was over 20 years old and worked just fine. I only replaced it because my son moved and had a brand new washer that he gave me. These corporations charge a chunk for them at purchase and then want you to pay for additional warranty coverage. It’s crazy! I guess I shouldn’t be so cranky, it’s a first world problem, but sheesh…

Happy Monday, Jacqui. Hope it’s grand.

    1. Hiya, Frank. That’s definitely an understatement. You’d think a brand new appliance would last longer than a month. Good grief.

    1. Thanks. I think I could have built a new one in the time it took to get a customer service rep on the phone. This does not bode well. 😬

  20. After three weeks off, here I am at the office. Why did I come to the office? Good question. It is 9:30 and I am still the only one here. Should I still be the only one here by 10, I shall pick up my stuff and go work from home. To hell with this!

    1. Oh gosh, sorry. I think your solution is perfectly logical. Hope you’re able to ease into the Monday. 🤞🏼

            1. Safe travels home. And feel free to send any extra snow our way. It’s bone dry here and windy again today making it even more dry.

  21. So sorry about Whirlpool. We bought all new kitchen appliances when we redid the kitchen 1 1/2 year ago, and we actually bought the store’s five year warranties for everything. Seems like we would have more pull with them versus the manufacturer, but who knows. I’m hoping we don’t need to find out!

    1. I generally don’t buy extended warranties but after hearing all the horror stories about Whirlpool, I may reconsider. Seems crazy you have to buy coverage for a brand new appliance. If the appliances hadn’t been part of the contract, I’d switch to a more reliable brand. This is absurd. Here’s hoping you have a good week!

  22. I did my share of adulting last week. As for Whirlpool, I have no good advice. I only hope you have better luck than we did when our brand new washer failed. We had to wait 6 weeks for a part. My wife and I had never been to a laundromat together before 😂

    1. Yikes! That’s not good. One of my neighbors said they had a similar issue and they’ve been waiting since September for a backordered motherboard. He told me this problem is well known with Whirlpool. Oy.

      Have a good Monday, Dan.

  23. I try to do a minimum of adulting every day but somehow I wind up “having” to at least once. Calling an appliance manufacturer directly is like being on a merry go round. I have better luck calling the store I bought something from and reminding them I spend MY money in THEIR store and I need THEIR help resolving a problem. I’ll freely admit it doesn’t always work but it works a heckofalot better than that manufacturer wheel of fortune!

    Hugs, Pam

    1. All the appliances were new and came with the new house, you’d think they last longer than 30 days. Sheesh. And it took just under an hour on the phone to have them set a service call. 🤦🏼‍♀️

  24. Now the council offices are open, must pay the rates…first seeking a shop which sells smelling salts as I am sure they will be needed when I see what they will charge me…..

    Good luck with whirlpool!

    1. Good heavens, what is wrong with this world that corporation (and governments) sell sub-standard products/services and expect you to pay more on top of the purchase price. We’ve got our fingers crossed you’re able to easily navigate the issue. Happy Monday. Sounds like many of us are having to do yeoman’s work on a Monday. Yuck.

        1. The one at my old house did too. It was still working when my son gifted me his when he moved in with his girlfriend. It was a Maytag and worked like a dream-I loved it. These electronic ones are not my favorite.
