Dog Days of Summer

finalYo sports fans, Sam here. Baseball and hotdogs. Does it get any more red, white and blue than that? But in this case, we’re talking about baseball and canines! Has baseball gone to the dogs? If you’re a Colorado Rockies fan the answer would be, yup…pretty much but not because us canines can attend (though there’s a date set for next month). My mom isn’t much of a baseball fan and good thing too, since the Rockies are currently in 3rd place and pretty much suck in the competitive west of the National League which is why I’m hiding my face. No self-respecting dog roots for these losers as they continue to find creative ways to blow leads and lose games. But apparently taking your dog to a professional baseball game isn’t as far-fetched or weird as it sounds.

As we move toward the Dog Days of Summer, it appears Major League Baseball offers several games where Fido can attend with their pawrents. The San Diego Padres opened the “Barkyard” at Petco Park where 6 premium box seats in left center field are available at all home games which accommodates 4 people and 2 dogs. Included with your admission is a free surprise for your dog, Petco goodie bags, shade umbrellas, a kind of artificial turf that doesn’t overheat to protect paws, and a pet concierge who escorts canines and their humans to and from “The Barkyard.”

PetSmart has partnered with the Arizona Diamondbacks by offering their fans the chance to bring their dogs to and Sunday home games to a destination designed specifically for them. Guess baseball has discovered that for many folks, pets are an extension of their families and therefore now offer an atmosphere for the entire family, including us dogs.

The remaining games around the league are:

The New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals hosted dog fur-iendly games earlier in the year.

So…if given the chance, will you be singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” to your pup in the stands? Will you give them some peanuts and Cracker Jacks? 🎶 Are you a fan or could you care less about the local team like mom?

Live, love, bark! <3

  1. Sand Spring Chesapeakes – Cambria, WI – My husband and I have six "furry" children Gambler, Glory, Guilty, Slammer, Gertie and one cat Bones and two furangel's Norman and Nellie. We breed Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We are both avid hunters. We also enjoy competing with our dogs in hunt tests and field trials. That is where you can find us during the trial months which are April-September. When were not at a trial we are busy training our dogs. We go snow goose hunting in Canada each year and do all the hunting that Wisconsin offers.

Very cool, baseball would be much more fun with the pooch along

Detroit already had their “Bark at the Park” We had toyed with bringing Dakota, but since he is often not a fan of other dogs, we opted not to. I am loving this baseball season because I am originally from Cleveland and my Indians are kicking ASS big time!! DakotasDen

I wouldn’t take Benji to an Australian Rules Football Match – there’s way too much kicking, fighting, punching, swearing and screaming – and that’s just the players….

Bark in the Park is the best idea ever. I hope Mom brings me there, sometime.

Cool, Lexi. While I wouldn’t take Sam to a game, if your mom’s brother wants to go, good for him! Yeah Pirates!

      1. Well, “we” meaning FACE as an organization, not “we” meaning your humble blogger. I don’t think our cats would appreciate an outing to the ballpark. 😀

      Hot-dogs? Did someone say hot-dogs?! 😉

  6. I like this idea for people who would tend to leave their pets in the CAR while watching a game. Personally, I would never bring my dogs to one. 1) it would be like taking a kid to a movie, right at the best part, someone has to potty. 2) I think some dogs can handle that kind of crowd but most can’t and I don’t want my dog stressed out. 3) Every game I’ve ever been to, it’s been hot as hell, I can barely stand it let alone put my dog through it. 😀

I’m kind of with you, Jodi. Not particularly a fan of baseball anyway and this some activities with pets are best left at home without unnecessary stresses. 😉

Love the picture. I usher for a local farm team of the Houston Astro’s. They usually have one day for a Bark in the Park. So far, I’ve been working those days, so haven’t been able to take Tippy. One year there were a lot of dogs there. Last year, I don’t think there were any.

Thanks! Hopefully you’ll get an opportunity to take Tippy some time. Sam wouldn’t enjoy it, I think he’s too cerebral for baseball. BOL
