Here in the Northern Hemisphere, today marks the longest day of the year and the official arrival of summer. Around our Ranch, summer seemed to arrive about six weeks earlier. Now after a few lovely springtime-like cooler days, we’re going to begin a warm up.
So today we think we’ll just kick back in the shade of a nice tree and maybe slurp a tasty lemonade this afternoon. What are your plans for the first ‘official’ of the solstice?
Live, love, bark! 🐾

We hope yours was a great bark day and hope our card has found you.
We have actually had a very pleasant spring this year but we are supposed to start heating up next week
hugs

Yup, 90’s here too next week.
Our first (and second) day of summer is rain, rain, rain. We are really looking forward to sunny skies and beach weather!
I think that was the system that was here earlier in the week. Feel free to “return to sender.” 😊
It hasn’t been that bad at all so far, butts tomorrow….90..Sat…100! geesh! Butts, it IS Summer, rights??! Sometimes I wish we could skip over the couple of months of deadly heat for the three other seasons! ☺ Ma is hoping it’s gonna be a ‘dry heat’ BOL! Stay chill guys!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Yeah, we have that ‘dry heat’ thing here too. Nothing like living in a pizza oven, right? 😊
You just reminded me to go for a walk before going to bed, to savor the longest day and the night sky
that is one totally pawesome photo! Perfect for the first day of summer! Our temps have cooled and we are ecstatic!
Not to rain on your parade but it’ll start getting warmer over the next few days. It’s starting here tomorrow. 😊
We’re still waiting for summer here. It might be here on paper but that’s about it! We get some warm days but as soon as that sun goes behind the trees, it starts to get chilly again!
I’d happily send some of our upper 90’s temps your way.
Wow …. you have quite the variety in your liquid intake! …. No doubt, Mom’s influence.
😇
Sorry: meant to say – Lovely Photograph, Sam!!
😍
Well, our temps barely made it to 70 today and it has been raining. We need the rain, but it has meant a long day inside for us:( Mom says it is supposed to stop soon and we can celebrate the first day of summer with a long walk after dinner.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Enjoy those moderate temps while you can.
Get up, put my heater on, go make coffee. Come back and Benji has curled up next to the heater Put on track suit and heavy jacket and get ready for morning walk. brrr………
Stay warm and enjoy that extra minute being added to your days.
I actually planned a street nap, but the street was so hot, I sat down and jumped right up with a hot butt. Mom said, “Toldja!” So rude… But not to worry. I took a sidewalk nap. The white cement was cooler than the black asphalt.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
You’re one brave little pupster, Cupcake.
Lovely photograph!
Being nearer the equator I tend to forget the solstices…there is a difference in the day length over the year, but nothing extreme. But the tree and the lemonade sound good!
Lemonade is one of my favorite summer solstice beverages. I’m always in awe of the even keel of temperatures all year long near the equator. Wide swings are the norm here.
First job of the morning–walk 2 dogs
Second thing–take 3 dogs to the dog park
Third–go to Lowes for the garden (complete fencing for keeping dogs away from cats, then pet store for food and flea supples
Fourth–close up house and turn on ac, and water garden, until iit cools down–around 8 pm, then unload car
Summer is starting out busy for you!
We’re having a heatwave this coming weekend, so we’re staying inside with the air conditioner. Looks like summer is here with a bang.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your peeps. ♥
Yup, the roasting season is upon us. When is autumn again? 😆
We just moved into a new house (for us) with a pool, Guess where we will be.
Ooh, so jealous. Enjoy that first summer dip for me!
We are celebrating Xena’s first birthday!
Hope it’s fur-bulous!
We are going to enjoy some backyard grilling later today and I will be making deviled eggs. We hope the summer thunderstorms have moved out.
Oh yum…now when is supper time, again? 😁
We’re at the beach this first day of Summer. The start of a short road trip! But the beach is cloudy, foggy and cold – 62 – until mid-afternoon. Yay! Ocean! Sand! Stinky dead sea creatures!
There are worse places to spend the first day of summer. Enjoy.
Work. And work.
Blech. Take some time out for a summer moment. 🌞
Well, we do have our walks – those are an hour of doing fun, other things!
Whew…for a minute I was worried. 😊
🐬
We’ve been having some really hot days since last Saturday, with some high humidity to match. My brother said it was actually cooler at his house in The Keys in Tuesday than it was here in Taylors, SC! Oh well! It doesn’t seem to bother Ducky, but Shadow doesn’t like it any more than I do.
Love the photo of Sam!
None of us are fans of the heat either. I know everyone loves summer but frankly, I’m counting down the days to autumn. 🍁
Happy 1st day of summer! What a great photo! 🙂
Thanks. Happy summertime to you!
🙂 Thank you! Not sure how we will spend it yet, but we will make it a good day!
That’s the spirit!
That’s a great picture of Sam. Sounds like an ideal day. We too have had some very hot days already, but today is a little cooler. We’re hoping for some rain too, since we haven’t had any in about 3 weeks. Today….well, after cleaning some house, I will be ushering at our local minor league ballgame. Tippy is still keeping vigil to make sure the skunks stay put during the day.
Have fun at the ballpark. Extra ear scratch for the ever vigilant Tippy.
Love the longer, lighter day. Great photo
Here, the summer seems to have come early, too.
My plans for today: drive to SA for a routine eye-doc appointment. So, no really lazy time before late afternoon.
Emjoy your day,
Pit
Well enjoy a cold one when you get back. 🍺
Will do!
…happy furst day of summer… only 93 days till fall yay ;O)))
We’re doing the countdown too!
