Whew…we made it to Friday and you know what that means…it’s time to celebrate the beauty Mother Nature provides. As usual, we’re joining our furiends, Rosy and her brothers from LLB in our Backyard on this last Friday of the month. My planned post went bye-bye with the arrival of our second snowstorm yesterday. It seems like autumn is engaged in a 15-round battle with winter.
After the first snow of the season a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t sure if autumn would recover. But she proved she had what it takes to provide some Mile High beauty even if it was somewhat muted. Snow doesn’t always impact the changing colors here but the bitter cold definitely did. And yet it was as if Autumn rolled over, stretched and said “up yours, Winter” and proceeded to produce some beautifully colored leaves just for spite.
While Colorado is more well known for its golden aspen leaves this time of year, a few other trees offer color more commonly associated with the East Coast. Elms, Lindens, Silver Maples, and Ash trees were hit hard by the freeze but a few other trees colored up nicely including the ornamental pears.
Even with the latest snowstorm, red and white showed up and provided quite a show.
The landscape had melted by mid-afternoon having received a nice quenching drink after several days of drying winds. Today and tomorrow will be back to lovely autumn temperatures with another storm expected to arrive Sunday. And right on cue, Mother Nature is set to disappoint timid would-be trick or treaters with cold temps and more snow next week. In any event, we’re not letting it hold us back. The Ninja and Knucklehead have made it their personal life’s mission to turn me into a human kite on our walks. Cool, crisp weather seems to be their fuel for sprinting with abandon.
Have a great weekend and enjoy whatever Mother Nature offers you. She always offers some kind of gift and life is definitely richer when you accept it.
Live, love, bark! 🐾
The colors of the leaves are so beautiful, even if the snow covered them. Our temperatures are going down too, this morning it was 2°C, so maybe the snow is falling here on Helloween too…maybe even earlier…nooooooo👻Warm Pawkisses for a Happy Monday🐾😽💞
Thanks, Binky. It was a brisk 16ºF this morning with nearly 8 inches of snow. Snow is expected through Wednesday. Stay warm, sweet kitty.
Lulu: “Oooh, look at that stuff! I have never encountered snow myself, but Mama and Dada say I would probably like it …”
It’s great fun till you get cold. 😊
As much as we’re not real fans of the snow and cold, it can add beauty to the landscape. We haven’t had that yet, but we’ve had a lot of moisture…and Luke is like your crew, the rain brings out all the smells and it’s all I can do to keep up!
It really is pretty but like you, I’m not real keen on the cold part. 😊
It will be chilly here too for Halloween, unless the forecast changes (This is the Midwest, the forecast ALWAYS changes!). It seems like Halloween is one of those days where it’s always unseasonably warm or unseasonably cold. And it’s so wrong that Halloween is on daylight savings time now…
With close to 8″ this morning (and more falling), Halloween will be only for the very brave or stupid. Don’t get me started on the DST nonsense. 😬
Got a little snow storm tonight ut it did not stick. We are in for some cold temps this week.
Snow is supposed to arrive later tonight. Not looking forward to the cold. 🥶
Beautiful shots of the colorful leaves and the one with the snow on it. Looks like I could reach out and touch the snow!
Happy Weekend to you! Do you have your confetti to throw? 🙂
I’m going to need it…there’s a new storm arriving in the morning with 6-12 inches of white stuff! The snow won’t be bad, it’s the single digits that’s coming with it that’ll be a killer. Yikes!!
Oh dear! Yes, certainly not ready for those single digits yet!! Start gathering the confetti for sure!! 🙂
Confetti and a boatload of wood to burn!! LOL
Oh yes!! With something hot to drink as you watch the fire!
I’m think some mulled wine might be just the ticket.
🙂 🙂
We love the fall leaves but are not ready for the snow!
It’s going to get worse beginning tomorrow where 6-12″ are forecast. But it’s the single digit lows that I won’t be ready for yet.
Hey, we could use some of that snow here!!!!! I bet those fires would extinguish mighty fast!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
My exact thought. Stay safe, Ruby.
Everything looks beautiful. I’m sure you look beautiful too, flying along behind the 2 speed demons. Sounds like the trick or treaters will be wearing the dreaded coats over their costumes…. Bummer.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Flying is not a good look for me. LOL
Haha, ‘a human kite!’ I can just imagine it!
It’s just as you imagine it, too!
Would prefer to see snow and its effects than to experience it again. Wonderful colours…
I can relate. At least it’s ok for the first few storms but it will wear its welcome out soon enough. Especially in January and February!
Snow, it looks so beautiful, but makes everything difficult.
I hope you will have still autumn days, without snow.
It really is beautiful but wears its welcome out quickly. We still have warm temps (70F tomorrow) but then it’s back to winter beginning Sunday and through most of next week. Brrrr.
The weather man just said here we might have our first snow here tomorrow evening. The temperature is now quite high, about 48 F and we are having a storm, trees may fall down and also electricity, too.
We’ll keep our paws crossed for you to stay safe and warm.
Thank you, it seems to help, because we still have electricity.
Beautiful artistic photos of the leaves…except for that snow part. I don’t like snow.
Thanks. Snow’s definitely not for everyone. We like it the first few storms-after that, not as much.
As I have mentioned. You can keep your snow because once it hits here, it’ll be here to stay 😉
Have a fabulous weekend!
I know, it’ll be here far too long for my tastes too, but the first couple of storms are so pretty. Enjoy your weekend!
I will! My last day of work is on Sunday! Woot! Well, last day of the regular season. Then I have 9-11 events and that is IT.
WOOT is right! Good for you.
Yep. Now I can focus on the damn house.
Yay! Paint, paint, paint my friend!
First, I gots to reorganise it. And declutter. Lots of the shit I have my boy wanted to sell at a yard sale. I don’t do yard sales. Besides, it’s too late now…
I’m with you…yard sales are waaaay too much hassle with too little yield in return. I’d post it on CraigsList or donate it. In fact, getting ready to list my artificial Christmas tree to get rid of it since I really don’t have the room to put it up.
Honestly, most of my stuff is being donated. I do have a table to sell – which reminds me, I needs must dust it off and take its picture 😉
That reminds me, have to get my donation for next week ready for pickup. Have fun organizing!
Decorations for Hallowe’en?
Oh good heavens no. Books, clothes stuff like that.
Ahh… That YOU are donating. Gotcha…
Oh yes. I’m s-l-o-w-l-y getting rid of stuff. I think some of the stuff has been replicating itself! Nothing worse than reproducing junk!
I am, as we speak, listing my coffee table on Kijiji 😉
Good on you! I’ve actually been a bit of a slug today. Tomorrow, right? 🤣
I have as well… I managed to sorta vacuum stuff, then got sidetracked by other stuff, then decided to post the table, then realised it is 6 pm and my chicken legs are still NOT in the oven…
😋 It’s so easy to get waylaid, at least it is for me.
Oh lawzy… There are so many things that need to be done. I figured by Monday, I shall be better able to focus. Ahem.
Good luck. You’ll be my inspiration to get my bottom side in gear. 🤣
Posted!
Oven turned on…
Seasoning applied to chicken as oven reaches proper temp… 😉
Drooling happening 4000 miles away.
Aren’t you a vegetarian?
I am. But it still sounded drool worthy. 😊
Thought so. I dunno that I could ever give up meat, to be honest… Though I regularly do veg meals, at least twice per week.
Giving up meat was East. Giving up sugar on the other hand…LOL Now that’s a whole nutter story.
Oh, don’t get me started on THAT one! I’m working on it. Sorta.
Right there with ya, sistah. They might as well call it rat poison. Addictive rat poison!
Great shots of the leaves. Lucy and Twiggy are like puppies in the chill wind. Have a great weekend, Monika
Thanks, John. It’s always great entertainment watching the dogs walking through leaves, noses to the ground sniffing the incredible scents of autumn. Even pee-mail seems more interesting this time of year!
Hahahahaha.
🐬🐬🏂⛸🍁🍁🐬🐬
How beautiful your leaves are, even with the snow!
Yesterday was one of the prettiest morning I’ve seen. Blue skies and that beautiful golden autumn light sure showcased it nicely.
wow, your trees kept their color much better than our area. The last storm turned all the pretty colors a crispy brown. Nice pics
Thanks. There’s a fairly decent variety of trees so I kept my fingers crossed there’d still be some color. Most of the maples turned crispy and brown though a few turned beautiful red.
Contrary to common belief around here because of the severe drought, the trees are showing glorious colors. Even little Xena lives it, as she grabbed one and joyfully ran through the yard with it
Aww, that’s so sweet. Gotta love the sheer joy dogs display with simple things in life! Happy weekend.
super pretty photos, even the one with snow! BOL!
It was so beautiful walking around in it yesterday morning. The sky was brilliant blue and it was surprisingly quiet on our walk.
We’re still waiting for the first snow of the decade.
I hope you’re not holding your breath. 😇
Mee-yow wow!!! Furabuluss leevess there Miss Monika…ourss are now lookin like yoress an it iss so purrty here….Winter iss sneekin upss on us…Winter all reddy did on youss’ there!! EEKKK!
***purrsss*** BellaDharma
I think winter and autumn will be duking it out over the net week or so. 🥊
Mew mew mew wee think so too Miss Monika…wee have bin told it will snow on Halloweeny! EEKKK!
That frequently happens here. Makes it hard for little kids wanting to outside.
THE kidletss here will just put ski jackit an bootss on over their costumess! They are furry hardy!
That’s a lot of snow. We usually don’t get until December. Maybe a dusting in November. Only once we had a snowstorm on Oct. 31. Most of the leaves were still on the trees. The snow was heavy and there was a lot of damage and outages. Fingers crossed that we don’t get any for at least a few more weeks.
We’ve had huge storms as early as mid- September. Typically though October is when it starts. Surprisingly January and February have the least amount of snow. But lots of cold temps!
My husband visited out there and got socked in during May!
Oh yes, we’ve had numerous May storms the past few years. Luckily they’re pretty wet and melt quickly.
