Monday Musings ~ November 30, 2020

Signs

Accepting submissions now. Happy Monday.

Did anyone happen to catch The National Dog Show over the weekend? Even though  no fans were allowed to attend (cardboard cutouts of dogs were featured in the seats) and announcers broadcast from their respective homes, the AKC safely hosted the show and what a great batch of dogs participated (including Kam, the black Standard Poodle, who won the non-sporting group – shameless plug for Elsa’s breed). Big congratulations to 3-year old Claire, the Scottish Deerhound for her Best In Show Win. Deerhounds are not often in best-in-show limelight, despite being one of the oldest breeds recognized by the AKC. It was the first win for the breed in the show’s 135-year history. Many fans took a particular liking to little Chester, a personality filled Affenpinscher, who was the winner in the Toy Group. Kudos to all the ‘pawticipants,’ both two and four legged.

Here’s to enjoying a great last day of November and a ‘wagnificent,’ tail-wagging start to December. And for those keeping track, there are 24 days until the big guy in the red suit arrives. 😱

Live, love, bark!  🐾

    1. Oh no! It’s so weird because neither of my dogs could care one whit about the TV. 😆

  1. The girls and I we’re so happy the national show went on. It’s a tradition at The Golden K to watch each year. I thought about you when the standard won the non-sporting group. Wow – was that a poodle or Tina Turner? What a sight to behold! We were thrilled that the Golden Retriever was shown because as you know the telecast does not show all the dogs in the class. My girl’s hearts were thumping when that handsome boy pranced around the ring!

    1. That Golden boy was a real handsome fella. Yeah, that Black Standard didn’t have any confidence problems. LOL but boy was he a beaut.

  2. My cats’ idea of a “cat show” starts with butt shots, some wrestling, strutting back and forth on whatever I’m working on and a few broken glasses. And might I just say … YAY FOR BLACK STANDARD POODLES! I think part of the reason I love Elsa so much is that she reminds me of Sassy, a gorgeous black standard poodle I used to dog sit for. She’d been abused and it was hard to earn her trust – but I was more than glad to earn every ear rub and belly scratch. It was so beautiful to watch her come out of her shell!

    1. Aww, you’re too sweet. That Black Spoo was quite the looker with a super shiny black coat and he knew how to strut his stuff. Elsa’s formative years in the puppy mill was a lot like your ‘Sassy’ but like you said, the rewards to earn their trust was well worth the effort.

    1. Sorry you missed it. It was well done (mostly) and looked to keep everyone safe. Happy December, friend!

        1. My big gripe is I want to see all the dogs that are entered. Not just the favorites. But I guess commercials are more salient. 😬

  3. We saw the end of the show when they announced Claire as the winner – she’s quite a beautiful and very elegant dog. Mom usually watches the whole show but not this year. Always fun to see though!

    Hugs, Teddy

    1. They really our graceful and elegant dogs. My daughter raises Irish Wolfhound, a slightly larger version. I’m always stunned to watch them lope toward me.

    1. It was fun to watch though disappointing to realize they only showed bits and pieces of the competition and some breeds not at all. Still, watching a dog show is better than watching the news, right? 😊

  4. I only watched a little bit of the dog show. I loved the one that looked like a little lamb. How’s the weather there? It is snowing here for the first time this season. It has been so warm up until now, this change makes me shiver from my head tomatoes.

    1. It was nice today (50’s) but may snow tomorrow.

Those Bedlington Terriers are so cute.

    1. They seemed to go the extra mile keeping the show safe. Lettuce hope you feel better. 😉

  5. We missed the dog show this year…we usually watch both the Macy’s Day Parade and at least a bit of the dog show. This year we opted for a pack walk and a bit of football instead.

    1. It surprised me that they held it but I’m glad they did and by all accounts, seem to do it safely and for the enjoyment of anyone who might have had an interest. That little Frenchie was quite adorable with its cute smile!

  6. Sorry I did not see that, especially as a deerhound won. I like those dogs.
Here it is Abolition of the Army Day…..now there’s a calebration I would like a few more countries to have.

    1. Yes, more of those kinds of holidays. Deerhounds are quite remarkable dogs. Isn’t Costa Rica still sans army?

    1. Heh, heh, heh…there were some pretty spunky terriers competing. The Russell in paw-ticular. 🤣
P.S. That was a pretty cool concert! Thanks for sharing the link.

  7. I watched the show, I was solidly in the Spoo camp until I saw the deerhound trot by and instantly said out loud, oh, she’s good… she might win…

    1. That Kam was quite the handsome boy (but we may be slightly biased) but you’re right, she was a real looker. And an unlikely winner but glad the big dog received the win!

  8. Poor showing for the noble Maltese. Max didn’t care – h doesn’t like that fancy schmancy frou-frou look anyway. Instead, he went to Vegetable Church – Lettuce Spray.

    1. Well done, Max…your prayers were apparently heard by John O’Hurley and David Frei who are big fans of the noble Malt judging by their comments.

  9. I didn’t see the show, but we don’t have regular television, just Netflix and Amazon Prime.

    Love the sign.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups. ♥

    1. It was on NBC and there are loads of online videos showing the competition. Some great crowd pleasers. Have a fur-bulous week, Sandee!
