Monday Musings ~ February 14, 2022

Happy Valentine’s Day. We hope you had a fun, sports-filled weekend. Fans were treated to a plethora of events from the Olympics, NHL hockey and NBA basketball games, as well as the Super Bowl. Whichever team you supported in yesterday’s big sporting event (Super Bowl LVI), we’re ‘pawsitive’ yesterday’s Puppy Bowl XVIII hosted by Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart was the most fun of it all. Team Fluff came from behind (much like that other team did in the Super Bowl). Long-time ‘rufferee’ Dan Schachner (himself a former NFL referee), was the only human to take the field at Sunday’s Puppy Bowl game along with over 100 pups.

Puppies from both teams gave it their all, but in the end it was Team Fluff that slid into the end zone with 7 seconds to go for the last-minute victory. A lineup with photos of the on-screen competitors can be found here.

More than 100 adoptable dogs from 67 shelters across 33 states dragged various toys around a miniature field in the event’s largest competition yet. Nine special needs dogs were featured during the game, led by one year-old Benny, a wheelchair-bound Labradoodle. Benny was born with an abnormal and inoperable spinal deformity and is paralyzed from the shoulder blades but was a zooming dynamo on the playing field. Moby, a French Bulldog with a cleft palate; and Rocket, a deaf Chihuahua/Dachshund, were also part of the event designed to raise awareness about shelter adoptions.

Kirby, a Labrador retriever and service dog in-training, was named Team Fluff’s MVP after helping his team win the coveted “Lombarky” Trophy.

It was a fun alternative to the Super Bowl and all the dogs and kitties were winners.

All best wishes from both the Ranch Hands for a ‘pawsome’ week as well as a love-filled day with your Valentine.

    1. Thanks. It’s such a pleasure escaping into puppyhood (and kitten-hood) for a couple of hours.

  1. I missed the puppy bowl instead trying to figure out and set up a new computer. I always love to watch and get my puppy fix for the year! BTW my cats would kill me if I attempted to put hearts on their heads. I’d have to sleep with an eye open.

    1. Trust me, Elsa was none too pleased with me either. It’s bad enough getting her to have a photo, let alone ‘dressing up’ for it.

  2. Hope your Valentine’s Day was fab – I’m SURE it was……we didn’t see the Puppy Bowl (no Kitten Bowl this year 🙁 ) nor did we watch the Super Bowl but we just LOVE that some special needs pups were featured this year. YAYYYYY!

    Hugs, Teddy and Pam

    1. The kitties did an amazing Halftime Show! Such cuties and more than one Flame Point Siamese 😲 I think there were 9 special needs pups which totally warmed my heart. One 3-legged pup was incredibly bouncy and no clue he was any different from any of the other pupsters. Sooooo cool!

  3. Since I was at Freestyle training with Chia and Xena during puppy bowl, I followed your link to take a look at the players. How adorable! Give Elsa and Norman big kisses from us (or scritches or a treat, whatever they like best).

    1. Glad you checked out the players. There were some extra adorable pupsters. Happy ❤️ Day to all of you!

  4. Having never been a big fan of football, I don’t really care which team won or lost yesterday’s Super Bowl. Now the puppy bowl is another story. I wish both teams could have won!

    1. If all 100+ dogs (and let’s not forget the kitties too) find homes, then they’re all winners. But for the record, Team Fluff won in the final seconds. 😉

  5. BENNY!!! BENNY!!!!! Wee ADOOR Benny!! What a hansum Poochie!
An THE Puppy Bowl soundss pawsum. Wee not get that chennel so wee watch Supurr Bowl…it was Okay. Wee liked THE 1/2 time show bettur, mew mew mew….

    1. Thanks for the kind words about Elsa. She HATES having her photo taken {sigh}. There gobs of videos posted on YouTube you can check out.

  6. I didn’t watch the Puppy Bowl but am delighted to hear that the event included some special needs dogs! (Just spoke to a possible adopter for my own foster special needs dog, little Eden…keep your paws crossed. Could be the perfect home for her.)

    1. Oh Debra, that is wonderful news. I’m thrilled special needs pets get featured. They have the same desire for love that other pets do and deserve it in return. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

    1. They are filmed in segments. Not all dogs are on the gridiron at the same time, usually half a dozen or so depending on size. If they were all on at the time time, it’d be way too chaotic! Happy Valentine’s Day to you, Teagan and Zoe. ❤️

  7. Finding homes for our babies is a good thing. So precious all of them and they deserve a wonderful forever home.

We don’t have traditional television, just Netflix and Amazon Prime. Works for us.

Awww on the pups. So adorable the both of them. I’m linking this post to Awww Mondays.

    1. Many thanks for the link posting. It’s good this event has wide viewership (there are highlights on YouTube if you are interested in seeing the adorable antics) and can find homes for sweet pups and kitties. Happy Valentine’s Day from me and the Ranch Hands.
