Monday Mo(a)nings ~ November 7, 2022

We’re now back on standard time but there’s nothing standard about the overabundance of political ads currently being broadcast. I don’t know about you but the midterm elections can not be over soon enough. The endlessly redundant ads have had me screaming whenever the TV is turned on. It’s gotten so bad I haven’t been able to enjoy any sports; in fact while trying to watch a hockey game over the weekend, there were so many consecutive ads for nearly every state candidate running back to back to back, for one brief moment I thought one of the dogs may have inadvertently changed the channel. I was beginning to think maybe those &#@% gambling app ads (that I absolutely hate and which are played far too often), aren’t all that bad. The worst one that sends me into orbit shows a particular athlete smiling while on the ‘can’ as he’s placing his bets. Seriously. Argh!!!

When looking for a smile for today, this one seemed timely and made an accurate statement about the current state of politics these days in the US. Whichever way you lean politically, we hope you exercise the fundamental right to vote. In Colorado voting is done through mail-in ballots; the system is simple, convenient with no excuse not to vote, but honestly I still think pets would choose far better candidates. Where in the world do they find some of these candidates…under rocks?!

Smile

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Is there an election going on, Norman and Elsa? We don’t watch tv anymore since years and we don’t read papurr and no more social media, so it’s very quiet in ourselves and around us. Hope you can get back to ‘normal’ soon🙏Double Pawkissies from us to all of you🐾😽💞

    1. These days, I’m not sure what normal is when it comes to elections and the money grubbers advertising on TV and elsewhere.

  2. So glad that voting is about to close here in PA. Voted earlier today and they said it was pretty busy today. That’s good. Now to see how it all turns out, but it can wait until tomorrow….or given the contentiousness of voting these days, it may be many days before we know much of anything. It never ends.

  3. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree about being done with politics! I went and voted this morning and hoping that I got my last political phone call and we may actually get real mail again instead of the mailbox being jammed with flyers!
Perfect comic. LOL! You are right, where do they find some of these candidates! 🙂

  5. When you watch TV, can you pause it? If you can, then do so and then you can zip through the damn things! Or tape it and start watching it half an hour in as it tapes so you can fast forward through the commercials. It’s enough to help one stop losing one’s mind…

    1. That’s a really good idea (pausing). Mostly I just grumble while moving to another part of the house to fold laundry or something like that. 😇

  6. Haha! That dog said it all.

I’m with you on the ads- political and gambling. It’s a glut of smut and dumbassery prevailing over our senses. It’s gotten to the point where I wonder if a one way ticket to Tibet might not be the worst idea.

    1. It’s definitely making me rethink some of my subscription fees. It’s getting to the point, I’m just over the whole thing.

  7. I LOVE that cartoon!! So apropos to my opinion of politics and politicians these last several years. I refuse to watch TV any more – it’s bad enough I have to tolerate ads on Netflix and Prime before I can watch a movie! – and the only way I listen to music is through my Echo Dot. And the house phone’s ringer is silenced so any of those political a-holes looking for $$ get directed to voicemail or hang up. 😁 The ones who call on my cellphone go into spam alert folder.

I will vote tomorrow but NOT for the SC incumbents. (Especially not tRump flunkie Tim Scott!). I’ll write in “Mickey Mouse” if I have to!

    1. Ahhh, Mr. Scott. He’s not one of my favorites either. But is especially astounding is guys like him (and far worse-see Ted Cruz) keep getting reelected. Those voters are among us. Yikes!

        1. I’m not so worried about other sinister crap as I am trying to comprehend what makes people willing to ignore logic and facts. That’s the biggest concern I have. The scary part is they’re among us. 😳

    1. Colorado has one of the best systems around. Safe and efficient, yet still far too low participants. You can’t make it easier for people, yet they still don’t vote. Argh.

  8. I am sooooo looking forward to not seeing anymore “trash talking” and all other political ads…..Luckily, the only day I’ve seen them is Sunday, when I watch football…We mostly stream everything else.

  9. 100% agree with you on EVERYTHING………and it gets worse every single election year. Makes me wish we were back in Maine on our vacation with no TV and lots of salty air and sun…….sigh.

    Hugs, Pam

    1. I don’t think the Supreme Court realized the Pandora’s box they ruling. Talk about unintended consequences!

    1. Going back is easier than springing forward for us but it’s still stupid to have to change it twice a year.

  10. OMD, that cartoon says it all! We’ve looked on-line at each candidate’s stances on the issues, read over the yes and no questions on the ballot, and have our voter ID’s ready!

    1. Gold star for you guys! I had my trusty little blue book that the League of Women Voters send out the day the ballot arrived and I dropped it off in the drop box the very next day. It used to be once you turned your ballot in, you didn’t get bothered by phone/text, but campaigns stopped pulling the lists of voters who’ve turned their ballots in. 😬 Such a waste of resources!

  11. I’ll be happy when it’s over too and as soon as it is the 2024 election will start. I’m so sick of politicians.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups, a smooch to Norman and a big hug to you. ♥

    1. I’m sick of those who traffic in fear, lies, obstruction and conspiracies. I can tune the others out. But the non-stop drum beat this cycle has been exceptionally awful. Sigh.

  12. Love that comic, Monika. It will certainly be nice to have all the political ads all come to an end. Mind-numbing, no matter where you turn. That being said if they spur more people to cast their vote, they’ll have been worth it. Regardless of who folks are voting for, we all need to exercise our right to do so. Democracy depends upon it.

    1. If more meant more engagement, I’d say, yes, but it appears the number of voters this cycle is less than 2018 which leaves me feeling nauseous.

  13. Thanks for the funny! I agree, I’m ready for the ads to be over! I get extra overwhelmed by the political ads because I live in an area where several state borders are all within a single broadcast area and as a result, get lots of ads for races that don’t even affect me. It’s maddening to be sure!

    1. Oh gosh, I guess I shouldn’t complain. Being in a multi media area you must be up to your eyeballs in ads. Hopefully the rest of the week will be ‘furbulous.’

    1. You’d think. Having worked on a fair share of campaigns over the years, you’d think they’d use their resources better. In the future I’ll just avoid the TV altogether during an election.
