Happy Monday. For those keeping score, there are twenty-nine days left in the summer from hell with today being the last Monday in August. Since Wilson joined the Ranch, he’s always been an ‘enthusiastic’ eater, so much so I serve meals in a puzzle slow feeder. It still only takes him about 5 minutes to gobble the kibble, toppers, veggies and supplements.
Today’s smile somewhat resembles mealtimes although I can’t imagine any delay in quickly inhaling his meal. The frame where Farley is waiting looks a lot like Wilson, although in his case, it’s because I have him wait until he receives the release command. This waiting period lasts from 30-60 seconds and has helped him with impulse control and confidence building, not that he’d ever wait for any condiments. The puddle of drool for me to clean up once he’s inhaled eaten his dinner is just a bonus for me.

I agree…Mother Nature is a tricky gal and I can’t help but think she’s saying “hold my beer” judging by next week’s forecast.
Oh me goodness.
Oh yes. Or Oh no, mine would never wait for condiments. They don’t have to “Wait” as long as Wilson, but if they break their “wait” before I say the magic word (Free!) their bowl gets picked up and they have to wait to get it back until the others are already eating, going through the wait and free again. It rarely happens that one breaks the “wait.” (Although Xena has been seen with her nose about 1/2″ from her food, still waiting!)
Oooh, I’ll have to remember that strategy. I just make him re-sit in front of it and he stares with a fresh clock. 😈
That works too, but him watching Elsa eat in front of him may also do the trick!
Except she’s around a corner and he can’t see her. 😉

I have suspicions that June is a cousin multiple-times-removed from Wilson, at least in regards to the food obsession issues.

Dalton & Benji were total hoover-ers when they were first here, but now they both reject their premium kibbles until I add a condiment…I have a whole variety so they won’t decide one or another is not ‘good enough’. As soon as the food is gone…and not hoover style, they look at me expecting a treat…sure…Not till just before e bedtime, dudes, BOL!!
Every once in a while they eat their food without me needing to add anything. Then I tell hubby, we need to call the newspaper!!

Awww, nothing wrong with a topper to make the kibble more delish! I have been adding a small spoonful of pumpkin or canned dog food to dinner a couple days a week, and I can tell by the licking of their muzzles and bowls just how much they appreciate it.
The Ranch Hands are BIG fans with toppers which we like to mix up flavors for more interest. As if enticing were a problem with Wilson. LOL Happy Monday.
Twiggy has never been a gobbler and a simple sit is good enough. With Tempeste we have to do the release routine or she would tackle us where we stand. Granted she is not huge but wrestling the bowl out of our hands doesn’t work. She gets the release command after less than 30 seconds but it sure works. I hope you have a terrific week. We have forecasted highs in the mid nineties, so I have broken out my winter coat.

It took some serious training with Wilson to get him to hold off rushing to eat. I can easily set Elsa’s bowl in the other room without him moving but he stares so hard at the bowl it’s almost sad. Happy Monday, John. And thanks for sharing a smile with us.

I’m ready for fall, too! The Z Kids and I were enjoying the cooler temps and lower humidity of the last week or so until yesterday afternoon’s increasing humidity sent us back inside.
Zen eats a bit too fast, too; but I found that separating him from Zoey does help at least a little bit. And I use the WestPaw Feast Mats for their dinners – Nutrisource kibble moistened with warm water – and larger lick mats for their morning pâté.
I think some dogs think they ‘have’ to eat fast because the food might disappear if they don’t. It’s a survival of the fittest mentality. And then there are poodles. LOL Happy Monday. Here’s hoping the humidity stays at bay so you can enjoy outdoor time.
LOL! My girls too use the puzzle bowls. Once I’ve given the release they are off to the races and would welcome any condiments but it is not likely they’d wait for them either. 30 to 60 seconds is an eternity; better watch your back. 😉. All three of our pups inhale their meals. Gracie, however, will wait for the release command. The others haven’t been trained on that, but c’est la vie!
The hope was to make him slow down in general. He’s good while he waits but then gives me his best Hoover imitation once released. Norman was the same way. The poodles are far more patient and savor their meals, bite by bite. No wonder people they originated in France! Happy Monday.

So funny how our beloved pets “train us” to fine tune their meals to their taste…..Teddy won’t eat any cat food out of the can – must have water mixed in so it’s soupy but ot TOO soupy – then it’s “acceptable” ! Gotta love ’em !

LOL, that is funny! We all eat pretty fast but not fast enough to need a slow feeder bowl. Madison howls when it takes Mom to long to get her meal together.
Oh gosh, so grateful for no howling, the barks are bad enough when Wilson is ginned up. Their bark has a echo-y effect to it and is almost amplified. Wishing you ad the gang a great Monday.
I miss that cartoon! I’ve spoiled my son’s cat, who, let’s be honest, will never move back in with him at this rate. She gets a little squirt of Catit creamy treat. If I don’t add it, she looks at me askance.

Just about as I turned away Benji would he well into his meal. He doesn’t waste time – he gets right into it. The older he gets the more food he seems to want. But he is still active so there is not a weight gain.
They act like it might be the last meal they’ll get! Elsa on the other hand, savors each and every bite. She’s rather quite dignified when eating. Wilson on the other hand is like a barbarian at a trough! Happy Monday, John. Give sweet Benji a good ear rub from me.
OMG! My cat Gracie is like Farley. She likes her condiments (rotisserie chicken) or she won’t eat her main food. Topping it with 3 kibble helps to seal the deal.

Loved the cartoon…..so recognisable! Except for the new arrival who functions like a hoover, so until she recovers it is small meals during the day, each greeted byounds of delight!
Glad to hear the newbie is fitting in. All of my sheepdogs have been very Hoover-like. The poodles have all been quite refined and dignified when it came to meals. I have to distract Wilson so he doesn’t stand close to Elsa. Once she’s done, he’ll licked her bowl in the off chance she missed a small morsel. Silly dog! Happy Monday, Helen.
