Monday Musings ~ September 30, 2024

Monday smile

A reminder to be careful when you go out looking for leaves that are changing colors. Wildlife is preparing for winter and may suddenly pop up where and when you least expect them. While we did some leaf peeping this weekend, I don’t think there was a single creature in the morass of metal we encountered in the high country. This was but a tiny slice of the thousands we saw.

Leaf peeping

May you enjoy an accident free autumn day without all the maddening crowds.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Java Bean: “Ayyy, they don’t seem to be taking your advice around here! Dada has gotten alerts on his phone about car crashes nearby us every day for the last three days, and yesterday, it said a trash can exploded somewhere!”

    1. The only ‘crashes’ I witnessed were people whose clipped side mirrors of dummies who parked on the road to the summit. Not even on the shoulder, flat out on the road.

  2. What a funny meme. It took me a moment to realize what all the auto emblems meant, LOL! Well, I guess everyone had the same idea. Don’t you sometimes wish you were the only one to think about doing that kind of stuff?!

  3. Being on the lookout for wildlife when you are driving is a good idea. My brother crashed into a moose with his volvo one autumn. Nobody, except the moose, was hurt but his volvo was totalled.

    1. Years ago I owned a MG Midget and hitting a deer was always my worst nightmare. There’d have been nothing left of me, let alone the car.

  4. When I saw/heard news outlets proclaim it was the weekend to see the changing colors, I groaned. Thanks for creating a traffic mess! Couldn’t they have said that other days were also possible? Ruined it for everyone. Sorry you were caught up in that.

    1. Yeah, there was enough hype to gin up all the new transplants…all looking for their Instagram moment. 🙄

    1. Thanks Pit. It was brutal but I was grateful to be with people whose company was welcomed. I’ll never go on a weekend again, not with all the people who’ve moved here. Just too many and not enough infrastructure to support them.

  5. Looks like we’re going to have an ugly Fall here. We had weeks of drought and now a couple of weeks of WET and the trees are exhausted! LOL Anyway, when we have a tough Summer the leaves just turn brown and drop. Can’t blame them. Love the cartoon AND the photo – looks like a crowd wanting to take in the views!

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy)

    1. Leaves in town are just barely beginning to change and many of the trees are overly stressed with all the 90+ degree days. Summer has been brutal. I was surprised the high country had such beautiful colors. Trust me there were hundreds of vehicles in queue and that doesn’t count all the motorcycles. It was a total cluster-I vowed to never go on a weekend ever again.

    1. Thanks John-glad you enjoyed the cartoon. Hardware like you wouldn’t believe. And a whole bunch of knuckleheads behind the wheel.

  6. Bwahahahahaha. Love the funny.

Oh wow on the fall colors. I would be there too. Beautiful.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups and a big hug to you. ♥

    1. Thanks, Sandee. That comic made me chuckle out loud too. Happy Monday with gratitude for the link up.

  7. That is funny. I saw a comic once of Rudolph in the chair and all the other reindeer on the wall. 🙂

    1. Bwahahaha! That’s was funny. Guess that red nose came in handy avoiding traffic and hunters. 😉 Happy Monday.

  8. Wow. Those types of delays would be very frustrating. People are why Holly and I left the SF Bay Area 8 years ago. 😉 But even these days one needs a reservation to get into Yosemite (about an hour away for us). Have a peaceful week at the Ranch. Ear scratches and belly scrubs to the non-people ranch hands.

    1. Sadly reservations are common place for most campgrounds and many state and national parks. Hanging Lake (an famous & iconic nature spot) near Glenwood Springs has a lottery for tickets and so does Maroon Bells near Aspen. Too many people have moved to the state and there has not been and reduction in traffic, let alone more roads (which just end up filling up). Rush hour last the majority of the day now in the metro area. 😱

    1. I had to chuckle when I found it (though having been in a collision in your fair state no less, I can honestly say it’s no fun for vehicle or critter). Happy Monday, Terry.

  9. We are at the very beginning of leaf season. Most go to the Poconos, our local mountains, to view and the roads up that way in October are awful. Fortunately, being retired, we can stay away from weekend travel.

    1. It’s peak season here for much of the state and national parks. In city altitudes, it’s just beginning.

  10. One of my sons and wife were in Wyoming for a week and just got home. They were enchanted with all they saw. Leaves are still pretty much just starting the process of changing colors.

    1. At 10,000 feet, it’s pretty much peak season. There’s only been one light dusting of snow, otherwise it would likely have been done. Happy Monday.

    1. The city. I get they’re all looking to get away but when they all decency and toss rules out the window as to where they parked, it took some of the fun out of it.

    1. It was a gorgeous day with peak viewing of changing colors. I was blessed to be with two of my favorite people to share the gorgeous colors.

      1. That is fantastic! The colours haven’t really been happening here, yet. I should go for a drive up north. Then again, I have the mutt so… not so sure I want to.

    1. What would normally have been about 3-4 hour trip turned into nearly 8. I love being in nature but around that many people, it wasn’t as much fun. Luckily I was with good friends and the day itself was picture perfect weather wise. I get that everyone wants to see the gorgeous changing aspens but when people only think of themselves and park on a narrow road wherever they could jam their vehicle, it did take away from the beauty. You can bet I won’t be doing that again on a weekend with the hordes of looky-loos.

        1. Better than weekends, that’s for sure but traffic in the Centennial State has turned into a real cluster.
