11th Annual Purple Day for Epilepsy

We’ve been busy driving back and forth to my Dad’s to get him settled in his new senior independent living facility and preparing his house for sale and won’t be posting the rest of this week. It’s been very hectic for me, but we continue to be very committed to supporting a cause that’s near and dear to my heart-canine epilepsy awareness. Which leads us to happily post our support for this year’s Purple Day for Epilepsy as hosted by the FiveSibes.

Purple Day

Even though my beloved Ninja Angel Elsa, earned her wings last year, we are once again participating in the annual Purple Day for Epilepsy Blog hop. Elsa was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy shortly after I adopted her. It was through their blog hops promoted by Dorothy Wills Raftery, the award winning author and epilepsy ambassador, along with co-hosts “Ruby the Therapy Dog, Knotty Toys For Good Dogs and Gibbs-erish Making Sense of Canine Epilepsy” (all can be found on Facebook), all of whom contributed valuable information that helped me provide Elsa with a good life. We will always be grateful for all the info that has been (and continues to be) shared over the years on their respective blogs and on their Facebook pages about canine epilepsy. I continue to remain ever so grateful for their help and all the information and resources that they shared about epilepsy over the years. Please visit the Purple Day website for additional information about epilepsy.

Elsa was living proof that dogs who were diagnosed with this condition were still able to live relatively normal and happy lives so it’s only natural that Wilson wanted to participate in memory of his little sister by wearing her purple bandana.

Please check out the Purple Day blog hop post at the FiveSibes link. The more awareness is raised, the better we can support those who suffer from this condition.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

Thank you for your kind comment. We miss her everyday. She’s still in our hearts though. Dad seems to be doing well so far. It’s quite an adjustment but so far, it’s going well with few hiccups.

  2. BellaDharma an BellaSita Mum – On Georgian Bay..... – Welcome to THE Purrfect Pad. My name is Sherri-Ellen & my current Kitty Girl is BellaDharma a black part Siamese cat. I started blogging in August 2005 on Yahoo 360 with Mingflower my Bluepoint Siamese. Then transferred to Multiply...Mingflower went to Summerland & NYLABLUE my BluePoint Siamese/Burmese cross took over. When Multiply was closing a handful of our blogging friends recommended WordPress & we found a home here & made many new friends. Everyone followed the antics & struggles of NYLABLUE until her passing Nov. 22nd, 2014 to Summerland. A week later a little bouncing Burmese boy I met at a local adoption event joined me here! Dec. 9th, 2014. Purrince Siddhartha Henry came to live with me & regaled us with his journey towards 'Enlightenment'. He was a Burmese Buddhist with many health issues but he searched for meaning in his Life. After his lifelong struggle with Panleukopenia. Siddhartha Henry lost his battle & left for Pure Land August 28th, 2018. He was only 4 years & 1 month old. I've never totally gotten over the loss of my "Little Man". And this is where I get VERY serious. This Purrfect Pad blog is not all sunshine & roses. This blog is about REAL life with special needs cats who come into my life. We share our time together & we share the good, the bad & the ugly. This is a REAL blog. Yes we DO laugh & have fun & take Selfies! And we share each cat's struggles whether health issues or behavioural problems. And we share about my ongoing battle with 3 health conditions that can render me unable to walk plus having Cirrhosis of Liver & Seizures. We ask our friends & followers to respect that THE Purrfect Pad is anything but 'purrfect'. I am disabled & each of my cats' have had special needs. Everyone is welcome here as long as you are kind & respectful. If you have questions feel free to ask them. Sept. 6th, 2018 BellaDharma aka Baby Girl joined THE Purrfect Pad. We hope all of you will follow our life together as BellaDharma learns how to be a domesticated cat instead of a semi-feral one.... Love, Peace & Treets, Sherri-Ellen (BellaSita Mum) & BellaDharma & 'angels' Purrince Siddhartha Henry; Nylablue 'Sweet Feet' & Mingflower the Merciless & all my other cats who have shared my life with me. You are all loved & remembered...

Apparently there was no Internet back then to look such things up, can you imagine? It’s great that these resources are available now!”

My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

I have added your lovely blog post to our blog hop so others can read it, too. Thank you for joining us on this day that is close to both of our hearts. I hope you get your Dad all settled in well, I remember doing this with my Mom. It’s huge and an emotional time. Sending hugs to you and Wilson!

We’re slowly clearing the house and doing lots of maintenance items that had been neglected. I hope whoever buys the house will be as happy as our family was there. 💜

  13. Wilson, you are such a good and thoughtful boy. Gramma is 89 and will not leave her home. It is a lot of work for Mom, her brother and the grandkids to always be there to help her with everything. She should be in a facility as she can barely see and really only goes out if we take her to appts or on holidays. It is hard timewise and emotionally but we do it out of love. Her house is full so some day that will be a big project. Good luck with your dad and selling his home.

      Tails Around the Ranch says:

Many thanks. Dad is approaching 96 and with his vision starting to diminish, he really needed to be around people who can help him better. I know what you speak of in terms of getting them to appointments and dealing with time constraints, especially when you don’t live that close. We too do it out of love. At least Dad (and Mom when she was still alive) did a lot of purging and they weren’t hoarders which helped. Some of the deferred maintenance projects have been a bit time consuming but hopefully he’ll get a nice price on the sale of the house that has loads of wonderful memories. 🤞🏼

Many thanks, Martha. We were so fortunate for all the help and resources shared to make Elsa’s life good. I’ve had epileptic dogs before but never had the tips and resources that were shared by FiveSibes and the other co-hosts. They were simply ‘pawsome’ and I believe implementation of those tips had a very positive impact on her quality of life.

Moving is the pits. I just went through it 3 months ago and I’m still suffering PTSD at the mere thought. We’ve encountered a few costly hiccups but our family is very close and everyone has stepped up to help out. We hope to list it soon. Wish us luck!

Thanks, Kate. He’s doing surprisingly well in his new apartment. The siblings and I have all been working hard to ready the house for sale. It’s been a lot of hard work but it’s triggered a lot of beautiful memories in a home filled with loving people.
