Monday Musings ~ June 29, 2026

Here we are-it’s the last Monday of June which means we’re heading toward the back side of 2026. Where has the time gone this year? Our weekend was jammed with activities. First there was the Dog Fair on Saturday that was great fun for both the two and four legged. On Sunday Wilson and I hosted a birthday BBQ for the family which meant that the great granddaughter cutie pie helped blow out candles (repeatedly) for her Daddy and Grandpa who both had recent birthdays.

Halia

The woman with the pink hair below was with the event organizers, the rest of the group were some of the volunteers who helped man the both. Sweet Hadley is always a super chill and model pup.

Denver Dog Fair

We had loads of visitors stop by to meet the sheepdogs and generally chat with our rescue volunteers.

A fellow sheepdog owner and her family dropped by
Cutie pies of all types stopped by
Even non-sheepdogs swung by

Another dog rescue group located next to ours had a very cool photo booth and took photos of some of the volunteers and their dogs.

It was a swell event on a very hot day (officially it was 97F/36.1C) with lots of visitors and dogs eager to get out of the heat.

And because it’s a Monday, we still want to share a smile. When I say there was lots of sniffing among the dogs who attended the fair, they might have benefitted with name tags like today’s smile to make the meet and greet a bit easier.

We hope everyone you meet today has a smile on their face. Have a wonderful Monday and try to stay as cool as you can.

    1. Delighted you enjoy our comic. We were thrilled when a couple of visiting sheepies stopped by. We always love connecting with folks who love the breed as much as we did.

Thanks, I know I’m very biased about Halia but I have to agree with you on her cuteness level. 🥰

  2. Your great granddaughter is adorable! Happy Birthday to her 🙂I am sure she loved blowing out the candles and eating the cake even more. 😋

Yay about your fun weekend with Wilson and other adorable dogs. ❤️ Glad you found a way to have fun amidst the heat!
We are enduring the heatwave here! 90 degrees by 9am and 100 degrees by noon is NOT to my liking but thank goodness for A/C 😊and icees! Happy Thursday!
Thanks for the laugh at the pawfect meme ! 🤣

    1. Thanks for the kind wishes, it’s her Dad (my son-in-law as well as my son) who were the birthday boys. She just loves blowing out the candles for them. 😉 The temps across the country or insanely high though here we don’t have the humidity like you do back east. We’ve been battling numerous wildfires. The one just 2 miles from my brother’s place is now the largest fire in the nation and has burned 48,000 acres and destroyed nearly 200 structures. It’s an hour by hour watch to see where the winds are blowing (luckily his place is southwest of the fire) and saly it’s zero percent contained. ☹️

  3. Nothing to say but Wow & Wonderful: dogs & rescues, families & little [special] ones, parties & fun & foods and on … and on! Loved it all, Monika. Happy Happy Stuff.

    1. Many thanks, Ann and June. It was a terrific weekend all around. I’m very blessed to have family here and work with such amazing volunteers on the sheepdog rescue.

  4. What a great event! I hope it will help many dogs.

Birthday candles and BBQ, sounds like a winning combination to me.🙂

Did Wilson manage to sneak a piece of BBQ?

    1. Thanks, Julia. It was a terrific event and weekend. And yes, the cake was oh-so yummy. Wilson doesn’t east people food, but he did enjoy noshing on his treats. He was a happy camper.

        1. I’m sure Wilson would love popcorn too! But I remind him dehydrated liver is better for him. But he’d eat anything given to him. 😂

    1. Thanks, Paul. It was great fun and I think a lot of dogs were adopted which is always good to hear. Have a lovely rest of the week. Hopefully the heat has dialed back a bit so you can get out on the trail with your mates.

    1. Thanks. Yes, the organizers are very seasoned and always put on a great event. Here’s to a great rrest of the week!

    1. Thank you! We were very blessed for all the smiles and fun. Hope you have a smile filled rest of the week.

    1. Thanks…yes, lots of fun along with lots of good happened over the weekend. We were truly fortunate. We hope you’re fortunate having a fantastic rest of the week.

  5. What a great weekend you must have had, the pictures are sooo awwdorable and your granddaughter is such a gorgeous little lady😻Pawkisses for the Birthday fellows and we hope you got a piece of cake too, Wilson. Double COOL Pawkisses for a Happy day to you and your mommy too🐾😽💞

    1. Thanks. Yes, it was a really fun weekend. No cake for Wilson…it was German chocolate. But he never has to worry…he always gets tasty treats when there’s chocolate. We hope you guys are starting to cool down and can enjoy your beautiful garden soon.

    1. Thanks, She’s such a joy to be able to spend time with, I always feel so blessed. Glad you enjoyed the cartoon. Have a really terrific week.

    1. She cracks me up when she tries to blow out candles. And I think she could have done it all afternoon. All the volunteer dogs were pretty sweet and ever so patient and mellow. Wilson wouldn’t have been able to handle the commotion at that venue so he stayed home and zonked out on the sofa which made him very happy. Have a wonderful week, Dan.

    1. Thanks, Marc. I know I’m biased but that little cutie is just way too adorable. Always love it when she comes over, even if I feel like I was ridden hard and put away wet. Gads, she’s a ball of fire and goes, goes, goes. But she’s preciously sweet.

We did have a great time at the event. It’s always rewarding to spend time with the other volunteers and lovers of sheepdogs. We hope you have a doggone great week!!

    1. Thanks, Mike. It really was a great event and terrific weekend. Wishing you and the Golden Girls a splendid week.

  6. Those are definitely interesting name tags, LOL! Glad event was a fun one and your BBQ party went well. With the hot weather you could grill right on the sidewalk.

    1. Those name tags cracked me up. Yes, it was a busy but terrific weekend. Now if only the weather wasn’t such a bear. Oh well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, right? Happy Monday!

  7. What a wonderful weekend Monika and Wilson, here’s wishing you a fabulous new week as well 🥰🧡🐾 xxx

    1. Many thanks, Xenia. It was a very good weekend. We hope your week is extra special.

    1. It’s hard to believe she’s over 2 now. And what a hilarious character she is. She always cracks me up. Enjoy a great Monday.

    1. The cartoon tickled my funny bone. Glad you enjoyed it. Have a marvelous Monday.

  8. Wow, so much fun in all that heat! I hope the building was A/C’d…
That is a very funny cartoon…I LOL’d when I saw it!
We are under a heat warning here for today and the resty of the week, with nighttime temps around 75F, and feels like temps around 105F – 107F. UGH.
We even had a few drips of rain overnight to add to the humidity…

    1. Thanks. It was semi toasty inside (last year it was much cooler) but definitely cooler than outside. I love that the organizers had a concierge to hold your dog while you parked. Oh lord, with that obscene level of heat, I’d evaporate!!

I laughed out loud when I saw it to! Have a terrific Monday.

  9. Thank God that people aren’t expected to use the butt sniffing means to identify. Cats do that too. My cats would ignore the tag and sniff just to make sure. Argh!

    1. Ha…so would Wilson but it was a funny cartoon. Wilson and I still think Frankie would make a great addition to your household. And I’m sure Debra would happily deliver him to you. 😉 Just saying.

    1. Thanks, John. A fun time was had by all and lots of puppies and adult dogs found new homes. Have a great Monday.

    1. Most definitely, Eliza. No shortage of good times this past weekend. We hope you have a fantastic week.

    1. It was great fun-we’re so grateful for our awesome group of volunteers. It was a hectic weekend but lots of lovely memories were made. I chuckled out loud when I found the butt tags. Too funny. Have a pawsome week. Hope your adoption event wet well.

      1. Our event was good (and inside, cooler than yours!) Got $2K in donations which was lovely. And one adoption and a couple applications.

        1. Wow, that’s awesome! Kudos on the adoption and applications. It’s so rewarding when your hard work is rewarded like that!

  10. What a fun weekend. All the cute pups and that little one takes first prize. So precious.

I love the funny. So very true. I laughed out loud.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. You are too sweet, Sandee. It was a very good weekend…busy and I need a few days to recover and catch up, but a fun one indeed. Thanks for linking us to your Monday hop. We hope you have a fantastic Monday and week! Hugs and tail wiggles.

    1. Seeing hundreds of dogs is always fun. Those name tag badges would make meet and greets so much easier. LOL Happy Monday and have a good week!

  11. Such great photos. But I am ashamed to admit that when I saw the first one with Ms. Pink and the big dogs, I thought that it was a photo from the birthday BBQ gathering. I thought, “Wow, Monika really goes all our for family birthdays; back in the day, I was lucky if I got cake. 😳 Your G-G Daughter is a cutie pie!

    1. Bwahahaha…we tend go all out for birthdays but NOT with crazy costumes! Good food and cake, tasty brews and loads of laughter is the general extent of our birthday get togethers. I’m a bit biased about the great granddaughter (who is slated to get a baby brother in October!). She is such a character-it’s always great fun to spend the day with her. I thought of you when I saw that little Mauzer look-alike. While that pup could hear, it was not a happy camper with all the folks but she sure was a cutie. Have a great Monday.

    1. Thank you-you’re too kind! So glad you enjoyed today’s photos and smile. Have a wonderful Monday.

    1. Hahaha…you’re right! Speed dating canine style. LOVE it. Happy Monday, Helen.

    1. Thanks, Jacqui. It really was a fun event. Glad you enjoyed our smile today. Have a wonderful Monday.
