Happy Monday, troops. We hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to cast your sights on a fresh new week. And what better way to start the week out than by a smile from Gary Larson. This one gave us a chuckle and we hope it does the same for you.
May this week provide loads of smiles (and perhaps some tasty treats). No doubt ‘Carl’ would approve.
We hope you all survived the weekend and enjoyed an exciting Super Bowl. No doubt many were disappointed by yesterday’s outcome but if it was an exciting game you wanted, I think you will admit, it was a full serving. Can anyone explain to me how in the world Patrick Mahomes managed to pull off that win? Maybe another ‘conspiracy’ I’ve heard over the years that suggests he’s a witch, is true? I dunno. I think that’s the longest I’ve held my breath watching a game. On another note, were there any notable commercials that tickled your fancy? Was it just me or were there LOTS of them? What did you think about the half-time show. If you didn’t watch the Super Bowl, did you manage to catch Puppy Bowl XX? It definitely had a great outcome with more pups and kitties finding their fur-ever homes. Whether you were rooting for Team Ruff (with its own exciting last second win) or Team Fluff, you couldn’t help but enjoy the all the canine and feline fun. Today is also International Epilepsy Day where there is a concerted and worldwide effort to bring awareness to this terrible health condition for both people and pets. As the parent of an epileptic pet, it’s a topic near and dear to my heart. If epilepsy has touched your life there are organizations who can help by provide awareness, info and resources. You can read more about it and our story here. And don’t forget to wear purple today. Stay safe and strong epi-warriors and have a great week.
Winter returned to the Mile High City over the past weekend yet our celebration was a bit muted compared to some of the animals at the Portland zoo in that video. Can’t help but smile at seeing their apparent joyful glee. Our storm dumped anywhere from 6-15 inches of super heavy, wet stuff throughout the metro area with some neighborhoods experiencing power outages. Wilson was frisky in the snow but equally excited to come back inside after an extended potty break. Elsa found walking on the crusty snow more than a bit challenging and not entirely to her majesty’s liking as she walked gingerly on it, sinking in with each step which was likely most startling to her sense of equilibrium, given her somewhat wobbly state. Hopefully she’ll receive the all clear to resume to short leash walks after today’s scheduled staple removal and can begin the process of building back her muscles. Please keep your paws crossed for us.
Some local residents experienced power outages might have felt a little like this water buffalo which reminds me that cattle egrets can be stinkers and just don’t care (maybe that’s the price of tick removal?). This pic begs the question at least from golfers if they are related to Canadian Geese in the give-a-hoot category? Courses throughout the metro area have become landing strips for enormous flocks of the pesky birds.
Never fear for us, the forecast is expected to reach back into the 40’s & 50’sF (4-10ºC) throughout the week (before the next storm arrives), which should melt most of the welcomed moisture.
In the “eek, I neglected to acknowledge our double win for last week’s Teaser” category, here’s a pic of the badge we won. It was exciting and quite unexpected to be a firstie, let alone accurately guessing where the Teaser pic was taken-talk about a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Many thanks to our friend Teddy and his momfor the super cute badge. We’re very grateful and thrilled that we won. Maybe all those middle of the night ‘chirps’ by a certain princess aren’t all bad though I’m looking forward to when I can sleep an entire night uninterrupted in my bed.
Note to self, remember to close the door or close the lid. I woke up to loud lapping the other night and discovered a clean bowl apparently isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Blech.
And for all those people wondering what ‘Not Sam’s’ new name is, after two weeks of pondering, ‘Wilson‘ seems to fit the bill. Of course he ignores all names when it comes to moving over on the bed and/or sofa, but am hoping eventually I’ll be able to break through the language barrier once he realizes his new identity. Being on the bottom of the dog pile makes for interesting snoozes and way too many knee and leg cramps.
Today is Martin Luther King Day where it’s a legal holiday in the U.S. As I searched for an inspiring quote, I came across this one and it seemed particularly appropriate.
Even if it’s MLK Day where we honor the civil right leader, we still need to start the day out with a smile, or in this case a couple of smiles since I couldn’t decide on just one.
With the Arctic blast coming from our friends in the Northern Hemisphere (hey Canada, I thought we were allies), today’s smiles seemed to fit the bill about getting through it and moving forward. Today’s high will likely be zero; if we’re real lucky, we might reach 1-2ºF (-16º or -17ºC). But we’re not the only ones shivering. Things could be worse, I just heard the forecast for Iowa. Thank you baby Jesus that today is not primary ballot day.
The cold weather around here brings the sarcastic out in some of us which may mean everyone from Colorado to New England could easily be saying something like this.
Not only was it cold this morning on the first potty run, it was also beginning to snow. Sigh. Can’t wait until tomorrow where we may actually reach freezing. Now where are those flip-flops?
Whatever you do today to commemorate MLK, we hope you do it safely and with positive intention like Dr. King. Hang in there, the countdown clock toward tulip season has begun and there’s only 64 days until Spring officially arrives. Thought you could use something to look forward to while you’re shivering, shoveling and swearing. Happy Monday. Stay safe and keep smiling, peeps.
Welcome to Monday where we always start out the week with a smile. If you missed us last week, there’s a perfectly logical explanation. Elsa and I needed to make a whirlwind trip to Missouri and we’re still recovering from that. Be sure to come back later this week for an exciting announcement. But first…on to today’s smile.
Returning to Colorado Saturday evening, nature decided to ‘gift’ the region with a few presents…snow, cold and wind. The National Western Stock Show over last weekend which typically translates to cold temps. Well it IS January so I guess that should be expected. December was fairly mild so it has been a bit of an adjustment, following the recent warm temps Today’s smile describes Elsa to a tee. This girl is the Goldilocks when it comes to pottying. “This spot is isn’t level, this one has leaves, this one the ground is too compacted…” I think you get the way her mind works. While the ‘pee-tio’ is mostly dirt with some mulch and gravel with a flagstone pathway at the gate to mitigate the mud with a bordering sidewalk next to house, there’s just no way grass will last with dogs so I always shovel out an area where she normally relieves herself to prevent the snow from clinging to her legs, belly and nether regions. Invariably and unless I do the entire run which covers the length of the house and then some, this is precisely her reaction. I thought it was just a quirk of hers but apparently it’s a thing.
We hope you are able to conduct whatever business you need to easily this week. Stay safe and warm and be sure to join us later in the week after we’ve had some time to decompress and catch up from the whirlwind trip.
Let’s get this week started with a couple of smiles. As we bark out the old, we also bark in the new and hope you didn’t miss the ball drop.
We hope you managed to have a safe and peaceful celebration. Around the Ranch, fireworks were sadly prominent in the neighborhood, much to my chagrin and many stressed out pets. Fortunately a hockey game with its incumbent cheering and jeering as well as tightly closed windows helped keep Elsa reasonably at ease. That said, I know there were many pets who were terrified so we send out a good thump on the head to those thoughtless uprights who used fireworks to celebrate.
One other but less annoying ritual associated with New Year’s is the making of resolutions.
But for me, this is the only resolution necessary in 2024. Do you make resolutions? If so…what was yours?
We wish your new year is filled with good health, love, and laughter. Elsa also hopes there are plenty of tasty treats. Happy New Year from both of us.
As we quickly move toward the food and sweets time of year, our old Indian Hills pal, Vince Rozmiarek posted this sign. It struck me as fitting for this holiday season, where over indulging seems to the norm. Are you ‘thick and tired’ this holiday season or have you maintained?
Holiday preparations are in full swing around the Ranch (the kitchen resembled a disaster site this weekend) but hopefully there will be some spare time to be cornered under the mistletoe. Wishing you a pawtastic Monday for precious pupster kisses. If I manage to catch up this week, I’m hoping for some creative holiday photo sessions. Wish me luck. Elsa looked slightly askance when I pulled out some holiday hats. Note to self…make sure the treat jar is extra full of high value treats.
