Monday Musings ~ August 18, 2025

Happy Monday, peeps. Wilson and I have finally recovered from many visits with nurses, patients and hospital visitors last week and are close to catching  up on our blog reading. We were so busy last week we even neglected to post our usual Nature Friday piece. Truthfully I didn’t have the bandwidth to be creative and with our schedule so jam-packed, I hadn’t managed to find any opportunities to capture photos either. Add in hot temps, well you might be able to see why we weren’t too keen about looking for slices of nature.

Hopefully with a return to a more balanced schedule this week, there will be some opportunities for some outside time, at least early in the day as this week’s forecast still calls for more 90’sF (32C) until at least the end of the week.

Today’s smile comes from the cultural phenomena known as the El Arroyo Restaurant of Austin, Texas. Serving up tasty Tex-Mex dishes for the past 25 years. It also is well known for its iconic sign that always elicits lots of visitors who just stop by  to snap a pic and have a good laugh and you know me…I can’t resist a good pun, especially on a Monday.

Naturally when Wilson finds something shareable, it’s likely to include an element of food. That said, he thought the message was a waste of a good bone. We wish that today’s smile is the beginning of a great week for you and yours. Happy Monday.

Monday Musings ~ August 11, 2025

Hey yo, peeps. Time for another smile from my favorite sign guy. Gawd, how I do love a good pun and Vince serves up a nice tasty entree today.

May only good things stick to you this week. Happy Monday.

Monday Musings ~ August 4, 2025

Welcome to the first Monday of August. Did you know August is National Dog Month? Around the Ranch, we tend to celebrate non-stop events like that every day. And the best way to celebrate by my way of thinking, it to do it with treats. Mum says there’s no such thing as a free treat, so I always have to do something for one and most often her default is a calm sit. She thinks I’m simply brilliant even when she accuses me of being a cuddle tank. Sheesh, I can’t help it if I run into her with enthusiasm after she’s been away from me for 27 hours a bit. Anyway here’s a pic of me ‘training’ her to give me a nice tasty treat. Notice how calm I am? Or maybe I’m just zeroing in on a distant squirrel that’s contemplating taking his life into his paws as he freezes when he spies me.

Me and my belly are just grateful Mum was a quick study. We both wish you all a very splendid Monday and an even better week.

Happy Swelter Day, er I mean Happy Monday. Today I, the majestic Floof is bringing you a special public announcement. Call…I can help you get the compensation you so richly deserve. Speaking of what I deserve, I gotta dash to file a writ of habeas corpus on a bag of chicken jerky my own Mum is not dispensing fast enough. The nerve! Harrumph.

Have a super Monday and stay as cool as you can. Our forecast calls for 98ºF (36C) so we were out even earlier than our normal early morning constitutional since it was almost 70F at dawn. Gonna be a scorcher so we’re hunkering down with AC, lots of treats any plenty of cold fresh water. Stay safe and well hydrated.

Monday Musings ~ July 7, 2025

It’s the Monday after all hell broke loose this weekend. Wilson here…what is IT about you American chaps that you enjoy setting off fireworks…for days on end.  Ugh, I’m completely exhausted after listening to boomers for the past three days and while I don’t get as terrified as many dogs and cats do, I still hate them. If I had any say, I’d ban all the noisy ones. Life is ruff enough-we don’t need things to be more stressful. Anyway, let’s start the week out with a smile. Mum was saying how she could use an acupuncture session to relieve some tension in her neck but I told her to stay away from Ed telling her that she probably wouldn’t find his treatments very restorative or relaxing. Aren’t I a good boy for warning her? I hope she appreciates me for looking out for her.

We hope your week is relaxing after the holiday weekend. Happy Monday!

Wait…you’re hauling me to next Monday-where did the weekend go? Oh well…as long as I’m closer to autumn. Your turn, what’s your caption?

Monday Musings ~ June 23, 2025

Welcome to Monday. Today is the 174th day of 2025…can you believe we’re nearly half way through the year. {head shaking} Where does the time go? Today is also {ironically} National Hydration Day, National Pecan Sandies Day, National Pink Day, and, the best one of all…Pink Flamingo Day in case you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to celebrate.

After a blistering weekend, Wilson says he’s not celebrating anything unless it’s well under 80F (26C). He has his own coping mechanism for dealing with the heat-act coquettish and wait for Mr. DeMille to call. We’re expecting a break in the heat starting later today with a chance of rain.

Today’s smile is in honor of Pink Flamingo Day. We hope your Monday is simply ‘flockin fabulous!’

Or in my case, that glow is from sweat. It was a hot weekend…just warning all you folks who continue to receive so much rain…trust me…summer is coming. Last week was super hectic and busy and we’re still recovering after a few days of hospital visits among other commitments. Wilson the Dogtor, was a big hit and now we’re hoping this week will be easy-does-it as this post visit nap shows how hard he worked. He was a good boy, brought loads of smiles to all he met and left everything he had at the hospital.

We hope you have a pawsome Monday!

Monday Musings ~ June 2, 2025

Good grief, I can’t believe it’s June already! What the dawg is going on? Wasn’t it just Valentine’s Day? However we got here, it’s no reason not to still start the week out with a smile. And today’s installment is sooo Wilson. There has never been any doubt in my mind that this trait embedded deep in his DNA since he’s shown a strong proclivity for chilling out on the sofa (or even better, on a bed).

From the day I brought him home, this boy has loved laying on my bed…the sofa, me…well you get the point. I’d be upset at his flagrant disregard for one of the house rules if he wasn’t such a cute floof.

Sending you loads of happy thoughts for a great Monday.

Memorial Day Monday ~ 2025

Today in the US, we celebrate Memorial Day. It’s often called the ‘unofficial’ beginning of summer but for us at the Ranch, we view it as more of a day of reflection that honors and mourns US military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces. So how did Memorial Day originate?

Originally called Decoration Day, the first national observation was proclaimed in 1890 though it is believed many cities in the South began decorating Civil War grave sites honoring their war dead years earlier.

On May 5, 1868, Gen. John A. Logan, commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, proclaimed that all soldiers from both the Union and Confederacy shall be honored by decorating graves the same way the Southern states had.

The name “Memorial Day” was first used in 1882, and ultimately replaced “Decoration Day” after World War II but it did not become federal law until 1967. In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, moving four holidays (including Memorial Day) from their traditional dates to a specified Monday, thus creating a three-day weekend by changing Memorial Day from its original May 30 date to the last Monday in May.

We will eschew the mattress sales and BBQ’s to reflect on those who lost their life protecting the country’s freedom. Please have a safe and reflective holiday.
