Mercurial Monday

IMG_1219

Sam here. Mom has been working on a couple new, regular ideas for the blog and the first one she said I could contribute on the first go-round. She wanted me to highlight what she refers to as the ‘quirky’ things I do that make her snort coffee through her nose tickle her heart. Personally, I think she’s being sarcastic but hey…if she’s gonna give me the laptop, I’m pawing out my side of the story, the way I see it!

Mom says it cracks her up whenever I face rub my eye snort face against her thigh or on the comforter. Again, I think she’s being smart-alecky but she does giggle…but oddly only after there is loud shrieking and ‘ew’s,’  especially when I rub against Dad’s side of the bed. Heh, heh.

Does your dog exhibit any quirky behavior that gives you pause ‘paws’? Be sure to share them in the comments, I need to show mom us 4-legged critters are the normal ones…’kay?

Live, love, bark! <3

  1. My Golden Life – Upstate South Carolina – I love animals, especially dogs. I enjoy US history, and reading biographies of our former presidents and other historical figures. I love the music of the '60s and '70s since I was growing up in those decades. I love the Beatles and Andy Williams equally.

Notice the laughing-so-hard-he-cried emoticon? I’m not so sure Ducky is “normal”, despite what our vet says.

    1. Tails Around the Ranch – Denver, CO – The inspiration behind this blog was one knuckleheaded Standard Poodle named Sam but is now inspired by a House Pony-Wilson. I'm Monika, the upright. Normal comes in all sizes and shapes according to Sam. 😉

The girls – well, Shadow anyway. Not sure about Ducky – are the “normal” ones around here. 😂

  3. Sand Spring Chesapeakes – Cambria, WI – My husband and I have six "furry" children Gambler, Glory, Guilty, Slammer, Gertie and one cat Bones and two furangel's Norman and Nellie. We breed Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We are both avid hunters. We also enjoy competing with our dogs in hunt tests and field trials. That is where you can find us during the trial months which are April-September. When were not at a trial we are busy training our dogs. We go snow goose hunting in Canada each year and do all the hunting that Wisconsin offers.
    Sand Spring Chesapeakes says:

I like it when Gambler does that too, he is so cute doing it so I imagine Sam would be really cute to doing it.

  4. Ottie emits a long, deep pitched sound to alert me to the fact he is in need of a cookie. Portia will get on the couch and lift my arm with her nose to indicate I have to hug her!

We think that’s pretty darn cute AND lovable. How doesn’t melt with a burrowing pup in bed? ღ

Good job keeping your face clean, S. Mom thinks it’s funny when I finish eating my dinner and I sneeze and then burp and then come to her for a treat like I did something brilliant. Is that quirky? To me, it’s just part of my routine.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

I’m wondering about those four legged critters also.

  7. I don’t have quirks. Mom, stop laughing! OK, she said that when I stay home with Dad, which isn’t often anymore, we have our GTM (Go To the Mailbox). We walk (I run) to the end of the driveway, I walk along the bottom of the yard while Dad gets the mail, I do my bizness, and finally get a treat when we get back to the front door. Oh, and Sam, you look like a poodle with your new “do.” 🙂

Nothing quirky about getting treats, Lexi! Heh, heh. Yeah, mom ‘cleaned’ me up so we could go visit patients the other day. I hate that part but love the hospital.

Quirky huh? Well when mom rubs the side of my pot belly, I fall down. Mom calls it pig tipping. I call it embarrassing. Snorts and oinks! XOXO – Bacon

  9. oh, where do I start? Just one, Cole’s very schedule oriented. I came down early this morning and saw he and dh have rituals I am not a part of. DH has cereal and yogurt, then Cole licks the bowl. Every. Day. Cole couldn’t stop to say good morning until he made sure no other dog (apparently including me in this) got that bowl. Then the (gall bladder pill) butter treat. In that order. Shrug… maybe I should continue to sleep in and let them do their thing. LeeAnna

I haven’t met a dog that wasn’t completely married to their schedules. The sheepdogs were the worst. You could set a clock to their daily demands rituals. 😉
