Today is an official public holiday celebrated in the US and observed annually on November 11. It honors military veterans, that is, anyone who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day in other countries marking the anniversary of the end of World War I when the major hostilities formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. Prior to 1954, the US holiday was known as Armistice Day and still is known by that moniker elsewhere.
This commemoration should not be confused with Memorial Day. Veterans Day celebrates all U.S. military veterans’ service, whereas Memorial Day honors those who died in military service of their country.
To all who answered the call and served in the US and around the world as well their families who likewise sacrificed, we salute and honor you. Happy Veteran’s Day.

For the first time that I can remember I did not attend the Rememberer Service. I was too busy struggling with the car through rain storms on the Port Wakefield Road and beyond, Bad timing for Conference this time – no problem for those who live in Mount Gambier or Adelaide itself, only for the poor soul who racks up a 1200 mile journey each time. The Remembrance Service is not just an hour to remember, but a time to pay tribute and to and give thanks for the men and women who fought and died for our freedoms and, sadly, there are so few of them left. “The Few” that are left from the Battle of Britain are now into their 90s. We must not Forget.

As a native German, born shortly after WWII, I’ve always been and will always be grateful from the bottom of my heart to those that made it possible for me to grow up in freedom, many of them even giving their lives.
Most of us German baby boomers feel the same way. I know I do.🇩🇪 🇺🇸
