Those Were the Days…

We have been extraordinarily busy with loads of hospital visits and some out-of-town travel visiting with family so we’re playing catch-up for the next few days trying to read blogs as well as post ourselves.

With apologies for another light-on-content post and because we haven’t had much of the white stuff here for a while, I thought I’d share this ‘throw back’ pic of Sam from February of 2012. We had just had a nice dumping of the white stuff and back then Sam was an ‘only child’ and helped out by snoopervising the shoveling efforts (note the paw prints on the right side of the walkway during the inspection tour). As I recall, it was quite cold in addition to somewhat deep. Sam seems to be channeling a “hey Mom, I think you may have missed a spot” look.

We’re still hopeful we’ll eventually get some snow before winter is over so maybe Sam will get another opportunity to survey a white landscape and chaperone removal efforts. Fingers and paws crossed. No word as to whether the Ninja will be a helper or a hinderance with snow removal efforts. My sense with the few sparse storms we have received so far seems to indicate she’s more into bouncing about snow than snoopervision shoveling.

  2. It used to take me forever to shovel off our large deck at the old house, because Cricket would continually drop the ball at my feet so I could not ignore her. Thank goodness the new house has a much smaller deck, and we don’t bother keeping the patio clear.
I’m starting to think we won’t see much more snow this year. It’s been very cold this weekend, but it’s going to start warming up again before the next storm, so it’s probably going to be rain.

  3. We are hoping for big spring snows too. We need it to avoid fire danger this summer. I hope that you get the white stuff too!!!!

  4. We had a very wet, stormy spring and early summer – now we have heatwave days, cool morning and cool nights – then heatwave days again. It’s freaky. Predictions are little rain from now until around September so it’s likely we will have water restrictions. Hand watering is what I am doing and sometimes that’s not enough.

  5. Ah yes, the change of the seasons. Seems to me like when I was growing up on Long Island we had each season for the better part of three months, with about a week of transition from one to the other. Oh well. Hope Sam and Elsa get to enjoy another snowfall! And you and Wayne, too!

  6. quote from another blog winter is confused.
we yo-yo between warm and cold temps. i wish that we had gotten some snow as Lily loves it. but now I’m hoping it doesn’t get down to freezing temps. our daffodils have already bloomed and our daylilies are peeking up out of the ground.

    1. I think that blogger is spot on. Spring has arrived earlier everywhere in the US and even though my daffodils could (if Mother Nature cooperated) get snowed on, they tend to bounce back the following day.
They are such hearty little spots of sunshine! 🙂

  7. Everyone has to have a snoopervisor of some sort. Yours is the best kind. Hope you get more snow so you can see how the Ninja reacts. All of our flowers and trees are blooming and we have butterflies too, so, as much as I would love to see a little more winter weather, I’m hoping we are done with it. I don’t want all of the trees to be stunted and flowers killed.

    1. Yup, that’s the inherent drawback to an early spring. A magnolia tree up the street from me always just gets started to bloom and Bam! a snowstorm (or freeze) hits. In all the years I’ve been in this neighborhood, I’ve never seen it fully bloomed. 🙁

      1. That’s sad, about the Magnolia tree. But, I doubt if they are native there, so can see why it wouldn’t make it to full bloom very often. They are beautiful when they are in bloom! The Bradford Pears already have leaves. 🙁

  8. Hope you get a little more healthy dose of winter for Elsa to experience what her big bro Sam has. It will be fun to see how she reacts to a heavy duty snow pack! Our prayers have been answered 5 fold out here on in NoCal; for rain. And snow. I’m grateful but ready for Spring!

  9. Although I don’t miss the cold, I worry that Honey will miss the snow. Not only did she like playing in it, she loved lying in it.

Luckily she seems to have as much fun in the sand as she did in the snow.

Here’s wishing some more snow for Sam soon.

  10. It’s always good to have a snooperviser no matter what you are doing. Lexi’s favorite was snoopervising dance lessons.

      1. The storms came through fast and knocked down some trees and knocked out some power; however, the sun was trying to shine by the time I left work.

  11. no snow for us this year. In fact Spring weather is about a month early too. It’s been almost hot. in the high 70’s. Just rain rain rain and intense winds. Ick, rather see snow in the winter. Sam is a good companion… just one of the good guys.

    1. Spring has come early across most of the country. We’ll reach the 70’s by the weekend. Oh what I wouldn’t give for some rain. Hand watering in February and March just seems insane.
