Monday Musings ~ January 3, 2022

Welcome to 2022 where we’re starting with a fresh new and hopeful slate. We hope you had a safe and happy New Year. Now comes that time of year when people often make resolutions to address any bad habits we may have slipped into or seek to enhance what we’ve been doing, especially some of those slip ups which often occur during the holiday season. If anyone needs some help, Elsa has offered to step in and do what she can with your list.

Smiles

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Or do you just take note of areas where you want/need to improve such as with eating habits/diets, getting more exercise, go ‘dry-January,’ and stuff like that?

Live, love, bark!  🐾

    1. Sometimes resolutions just don’t work out despite the best intentions. Hugs and tails wags from everyone at the Ranch.

  2. That cartoon is fabulous…..and I never make resolutions – I used to many years ago but life needs to be more flexible than resolutions sometimes allow! Heaven knows we have to be ready for ANYTHING to come our way. I just face the new year with hope – for a better year PERIOD!

    Hugs, Pam

  3. Last year’s resolution was not to take in any more dogs as we are not getting any younger….fine. So just a week ago I took in two poor babies as I could see no other solution for them. This year’s resolution is not to make unrealistic resolutions.

    1. Bless you, Helen! While I can appreciate the rational thought of not taking any more in, you are truly a hero for the reality that those two babies needed you. I’m sure some of the old pros will school them nicely into the day to day. Tot…perhaps?

      1. At the moment they are in quarantine as they have mange among all their other problems, but I am sure Tot will be getting out the schoolbooks as soon as they are free to roam!

        1. Keeping my paws crossed the quarantine goes smoothly and we soon hear stories of antics, er I mean, curious happenings going on with the whole gang. With the sheer number, do you think there will be any significant difference with the day to day? 😉

          1. Not once they are integrated. The thugs are a pretty tolerant bunch – I supposed having been integrated themselves. At the moment they are looking and sniffing at a distance and keeping an eye on any food dishes that pass….it is a bit more work at the moment, but Danilo is a great help – thank goodness!

            1. Bless Danilo for helping you out. Good luck with making it through the integration period. Those two dogs don’t know how lucky they are by winning the dog lottery of dog parents. 😊

  4. Haha! Good boy indeed.

As for resolutions, nope. I just start fixing my brain on things I want to work on or goals I wish to attain . . months before the new year. I don’t like putting all that pressure on the new year.

    1. Seems reasonable to me! Why unload a whole lot of pressure on a sweet young year? 😉

  5. I’m the odd man out. (again) I make resolutions and pretty much keep them. This year’s was a straightforward one – to stop talking back to the TV especially the news shows. Seems as the years pass I have taken to yelling at the TV talking heads and that definitely has to stop, even though they deserve whatever abuse I levy upon them.

    1. It wouldn’t be so be yelling at them if they heeded sage advice, but we both know that ain’t going to happen. Glad you are able to make resolutions and keep them. For this year, you might want to buy a few Nerf bricks to throw at the dumbest of the talking heads. It seems to help when they pay no attention to logic. 😉

    1. With that approach, I can’t help but wonder if the cats didn’t say that. 🤣 Sounds so Gracie-like.

Here’s hoping there are no vet emergency visits you. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

  6. Mom always makes resolutions. And keeps them a lot of the time. They’re never about eating or exercise. Usually more about journaling, meditation, reading, making productive use of time, and things like that. Every year she resolves to stop picking at and biting her cuticles. That one never makes it past 10am on January 1st.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

    1. We’ll, on the bright side, there were a couple of hours where things went well. In the alternative, here’s to the productive side of keeping resolutions. 👍🏻

  7. While I like the idea of a ‘new slate’ where we can let the past go and look to the future with renewed hope, I’ve never been one for resolutions (probably because I’m likely not to follow through, ha). This is one year where I’m happy to put the past behind me!

    1. Yeah, I told 2021 out loud at midnight on New Year’s Eve to “not let the door hit it on the way out.” Then I proceeded to binge watch Yellowstone for the next 3 hours. 😇 Happy Monday.

  8. I don’t normally do resolutions but I have to change my way of thinking so for 2022 my motto is stay positive and fill up with gratitude. It’s 2 things in our control. Happy New Year, Tails!

  9. We don’t do resolutions either. Xena says they are passé. Chia says it’s a new generation. Lucy says do whatever makes you happy. As for me, I am restarting my Dr. Gundry way of eating after falling off over the holidays.

    1. Your pups are quite wise. I’m back on the ‘healthful eating bandwagon too- way too many holiday sweets.

      1. Me too. When I realized I had really hit rock bottom eating sweets, I went crazy with the resolve to stop in on Saturday. My favorite jeans suddenly not zipping was good incentive!

    1. I agree, John. Concrete goals are a better way when trying to move forward positively. Happy Monday.

    1. We’re big fans of dreams and wishes. Why just this morning, they both said they were dreaming for lots of treats this week. Silly dogs.

  10. Resolutions don’t work for me. I prefer to challenge myself to something for a period of time (which sometimes, can surprise you and last a whole year!).
    Love the cartoon!

    1. Your year long 10K commitment was most inspiring. Congrats on completing the year; I suspect it’s pretty much become a way of life for you now. 😇

      1. Thank you, kind lady! I thought I’d manage to post my blog about it last night but got sidetracked by Game of Thrones… 😉 Will be doing so later.
Well yanno what? Out of spite, I am NOT doing 10K today 🙂 Plus it’s ridiculously cold out there.

        1. Good for you! I whipped out over the weekend myself. Walking the dogs seemed cruel in single digits. Besides that, it allowed me to binge on Yellowstone 😉

          1. What do you watch Yellowstone on? I get it on Prime but Marc doesn’t have access to it…
            It’s so darn good!
Um.. what does whipped out mean?

              1. Oh, I know! I binged the first three seasons then had to wait (im)patiently for each episode doled out weekly! Have to watch the season finale that played last night. Was saving it for tonight.

  11. Not resolutions really just try to do better than the day before. 🙂 I do have things in my mind that I would like to accomplish this year. There is something exciting about having a brand new year to give a fresh start.
Have Elsa and Norman made resolutions to be really good and not to trip you up on your walks? LOL!

    1. Umm, that remains to be seen. Good smells are amplified by snow and ice…or so it seems. 😉

  12. I love the funny. I don’t do resolutions at all. A set up to fail for me.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups, a smooch to Norman and a hug to you. ♥

    1. Clear goals seem like better way to accomplish things than mere resolutions which seem like the perfect way to stumble. Have a super week, Sandee. Norman sends pupster kisses.

  13. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions any more. I used to, but it became more of a chore than something fun so I stopped. I’d rather spend that time with whichever pup or pups is/are with me. Give Elsa a piece of blank paper from me.

    1. Nom, nom…Elsa says thank you. Yeah, I’m with you, besides I realized the ‘finding new job’ resolution the last several years I worked was not the best way to start out each year.

  14. Ther’s no list of New Year’s resolutions that could be chewed up here. For a long time by now I have only one New Year’s resolution: to have none! 😉

        1. She’s started to enjoy noshing on napkins lately. I have no idea where that came from!
