Monday Musings ~ October 17, 2022

Happy Monday. Today the Ranch is sending extra special Happy Birthday wishes to my baby sister from Maryland. We recently had a lovely visit with her at my Dad’s and I hope today is as special as she is. Sending digital hugs and kisses, Happy Birthday, sweetie.

With Halloween just around the corner, I’m sure a lot of us are getting ready for little goblins and witches to show up for the annual Trick-r-Treat evening. I used to buy whatever candy was the cheapest (knowing full well I wouldn’t eat the leftovers and could take them into work where they would quickly disappear thanks to co-workers who resembled corporate mice in a granary). I always felt somewhat smug about unloading junk food calories sharing Halloween treats with my fellow co-workers. But when I retired, I had nowhere to off load the leftover candy. If it was going to be around, at least I wanted it to be something I might want to occasionally enjoy. Costco to the rescue…with their ginormous bags of mini Snickers bars. So today’s smile is a nod to the annual Halloween treat sharing. I can only hope any Halloween visitors will pick up the slack so I’m not tempted with the leftovers. I’m running out of hiding places.

Signs

This past weekend’s Fall Festival at Lutheran featured Ranch Hand Norman walking in the pet therapy parade along with a few of his fellow therapists. I’ll do a separate post later this week sharing some of the best of the photos once I’ve had a chance to go through them all. Here’s a sneak peak of the hunky guy posing in front of a fire engine/photo booth.

Norman

We hope you have a pawsome Monday and an even better week.

Live, love bark! 🐾

  1. October has 2 more birthdays for you: sweet Shadow turned 18 at THE BRIDGE on the 16th; and it was also sweet Callie’s half-year birthday (18-1/2). My Golden Girls probably had a big party with their daddy; their younger sister, Ducky; and their two younger brothers, Radar and Bogie. It makes me smile to imagine the festvizing (a Radar O’Reilly word from his Farewell Radar episodes). ❤️🐾

    1. I hope Sam joined them in celebrating. He would have been 17 on the 7th. We like that concept…’festivizing.’

  2. Norman, you look so darn cute (as always)! We never used to know what we would get for trick or treaters so I’d always get candy we liked since hubby and I would end up eating most of it. Now we get ZERO where we are so I don’t even buy candy….which is good since I try not to eat much, and hubby already eats TOO many sweets! LOL

    1. Thank you. I’m hoping there are enough events in the neighborhood where there won’t be any door knocking (or door bell ringing). It gets the dogs all worked up, stuff gets ‘real’ and scares kids despite both dogs loving them, and just becomes awkward as all get-out. 🤞🏼

  3. Happy Birthday to your sister from a far! Our petcretary’s sister had her BD on the 16th! Must be that October is a good BD month, as two of our kitty angels and one of our sons have October BD’s too.

That sign made me giggle…but I too prefer Reeses! Don’t putt me anywhere near them. LOL!

Norman is a furry handsome firepup!

    1. Wow, another October birthday! There’s a bunch of them, aren’t there? Oh yes, you’re so right, Reeses are soooo D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S!

    1. Aww, thanks, sweet kitty and Mum. Reeses are ever soooo tasty…I don’t dare buy any of that yummy candy. I’d look like Humpty Dumpty for sure!

    1. At least pumpkin seeds are good for you (unless they’re heavily salted). Candy on the other hand…🤷🏼‍♀️

  5. I think it was my sophomore year of high school that my boyfriend tried to bribe me to not go out trick-or-treating by buying me a bag of mini-Snickers. They didn’t last to Halloween! Hahaha.

    1. Hmmm, I’m not sure that boyfriend would last long around me. 😇 Bribes like that don’t seem kosher.

  6. Aww Happy Birthday to your sweet sister! What a special day! Glad you got to visit with her. My Dad’s 83rd birthday is today! 😊
And my sister’s is October 30th.

    1. Many thanks for the kind wishes. And a Happy Birthday to your Dad and pre-happy birthday to your sis. Seems like there are a lot of October birthdays around!

Awww, on handsome Norman. He’s a good looking firepup.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups, a smooch to Norman and a big hug to mom. ♥

    1. Thank you, Sandee. You’re always so sweet with your comments and linking us to your post. 😍

    1. And they’d be right!

      Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Here’s to a Snickers kind of week 🍫

    1. Many thanks, John. Even though I’m ‘slightly’ more than biased, I thought he was the best looking fireman I’ve seen in forever.

  8. Lucy says Norman really is a Hunk! But she wants to make sure he doesn’t tell Achilles (her in-person boyfriend). I usually buy candy bars that I don’t like so I won’t eat them. I didn’t this year, and now I’m gonna have to go out and buy more (this time of the I don’t like them variety). I guess you could always freeze them. Or find a recipe to make a cake or something out of them, LOL!

    1. And Norman thinks Lucy is quite the gorgeous ingenue. Something else that probably something else that shouldn’t be shared with Achilles. 😊

  9. As the evening finishes up on Trick or Treat night we get VERY LIBERAL about handing out any candy that’s left. I have absolutely no willpower. Don’t want it in the house!!

    1. I probably never get more than 6-10 trick-r-treaters in any given year. I could give each one a pound of candy! LOL

  10. Each year we think we’ve overestimated how much candy to have on-hand for trick or treaters. Each year as we enter the last half hour or so of being “open for business,” we start looking around at potential food items in our house we can substitute for candy. Seems like each year is bigger than the year before, and it’s nice to report the tradition is still alive and well in our area. Norman is totes adorbs as usual. Happy Monday!

    1. Oh yes, I remember those kinds of Halloweens back when I lived in the suburbs. Nothing makes me feel worse than running out of candy for little trick-r-treaters (though those teens that show up with deep voices and peach fuzz on their uncostumed faces get a scowl because I’m thinking…”seriously dude, aren’t you a bit old to be trick-r-treating?” 🎃

  11. Extra treats! We stopped buying and go out for dinner on trick or treat night. Our neighborhood is all old folks so we don’t get many. Otherwise it’s a dilemma. Buy what we like and risk eating it or buy what we don’t like and toss. One thing I miss about work is off loading any goodies that you have leftover from something.

    1. Yeah, you could always count on the work peeps to snarf up any leftovers. I was cleaning up my panty shelves and came across a bag from last year I’d completely forgotten about. Drat…hate when I do that. Year old chocolate…umm, no thank you. 😇

    1. There usually are only a handful of trick-r-treaters. far less than the 4 lbs. bag of chocolate! We’d absolutely love you to come and nosh on the leftovers. We’ll leave the light on for you.

  12. Happy Birthday to your sister!! (She must be EXCEPTIONAL since she’s born in October hehehe)…….oh and THANK YOU FOR MY LOVELY surprise!!!!!!! xoxoxo
