Nature Friday ~ November 29, 2024

ElsaWelcome to Nature Friday. Today is the last Friday of November, 2024 and no doubt some of us are moving a little bit slower today, no doubt still under the influence of a Thanksgiving Day food coma. For those needing a spot of pressure, there are only 26 days left until Christmas and only 33 days left in 2024. As always we’re joining our pals from Adventures of the LLB Gang. Don’t forget to click on the link to see what others have posted. We hope your ‘holiday’ was safe, full of good cheer and that you were able to enjoy Thanksgiving with friends and family for those who celebrate it.

Elsa here to start things off. Mom got a hankering to trim up my paws because she said, and I quote…”my feet were looking like a muppet.” I hate getting my paws trimmed and won’t let her use clippers. She can only trim them with scissors but she’s gotten fairly good making them look halfway decent. But we’re here to talk about Nature things. Mom went to spend the Thanksgiving howliday with our Grandpa with a few family members. He’s going to be a busy fella over the next few days, as other siblings will show up extending the holiday and food fest. I’m jealous as there will be some amazing foodables while they’re celebrating which will be good for him to see other family members from out of state who will begin to arrive this weekend. Let the fun and food continue.

But first, jeez Mother Nature, could you be a bit more kinder on the thermostat? It was 18ºF freaking degrees this morning when I went outside to pee at oh-dark-thirty. As the popular musician Collins Obinna Chibueze (otherwise known as Shaboozey) sings in his chart topping A Bar Song remake of the 2004 single song Tipsy, “oh my….good Lord!” We aren’t nearly ready for walks on the frozen tundra.

Wilson: ‘Morning little sister, boy are you right about the temps. I hurried my morning constitution in record time. For a quick minute I thought perhaps it might freeze to me private parts! Since you’re the native of this landscape, I’m guessing this is the norm for this time of year but even with my double coat, I’m grateful Mum will be taking us out for our morning walk later, hoping for a few degrees of warmth from the clear skies and sun. But I’m guessing those same clear skies are why it’s so bloody cold. Brrrrr.

Elsa: Right you are, House Pony. Those clear blue skies, while pretty as all get-out, are what makes things so cold. But they also make for some beautiful pictures, even when you’re whizzing past familiar sights. Mom can never get enough of seeing Pikes Peak; she’s written about that view before. It’s that view that inspired author and poet, Katherine Lee Bates to write the lyrics for America the Beautiful after she saw the gorgeous view from the summit of this well-known 14,000+ ft. peak.

Wilson: She really enjoys seeing it, both when she drives through Colorado Springs where it looms over the city as well as the back side once she gets to her Dad’s house.

Pikes Peak Pikes Peak

Elsa: It’s very close, it’s easy to see why it’s such a draw. Then again, it’s our Mom so there’s always that. She loves seeing  mountain majesty anytime and Pikes Peak is so close and can be easily captured even with a cell phone.

Wilson: I guess so…the area is so different from what I was used to experiencing in Missouri where the highest point was a mere 1,772 feet (540 metres). These fourteeners are something else.

Elsa: Our state is very lucky to have so many tall mountains; and especially at this time of year, when we’re focused on gratitude for the views they provide. By contrast, the Great Plains spread far and wide and have their own special beauty. Mom volunteered at the OES rescue booth at last weekend’s Denver Dog Fair where there were over 150 adoptable dogs from breed rescue organizations with scads of inside and outside activities with loads of vendors.

Wilson: Righto, Ninja. Mum loves the views on the plains and captured this windmill at the event site in eastern Arapahoe County with the landscape being so wide open with nothing to stop the wind.

Windmill

Elsa: My ears would be flapping like the Flying Nun in those breezy conditions out there.

Wilson: Indeed. But you’d have enjoyed it inside where your first vet, Dr. Jeff of Animal Planet fame gave a talk to the attendees. He and Mum talked about how you’re doing these days since he relocated his practice up in the foothills southwest of the city.

Dr. Jeff

Elsa: Oh yeah, I remember him! He’s a good guy and does so much for the community on the topic of overpopulation despite being diagnosed with cancer and challenging the local veterinary community with his low-cost affordable care model. Glad Mom got a chance to talk with him and find out how he’s doing these days in foothill area of Conifer, CO. He was well received at the event.

Wilson: And here’s a trained pup from one of the many dog trainers with one of his graduates. This Doodle fancied about carrying a bag of treats in his mouth. I can’t. even. begin. to. fathom. not eating treats I was carrying. I mean, I barely taste them as it is without having to carry them.

Doodle dog RMOES Rescue

Elsa: Oh brother…there you go again thinking with your 17 stomachs. All an all, it was a good event and the rescue managed to receive a decent amount of donations. Their first mission was to promote a senior OES named Reagan and we have our paws crossed that someone will adopt her. If you’re interested, please check the rescue’s website and fill out an application. Technically we’re not fully set up to take in dogs but Reagan’s situation prompted a special case scenario and we are doing what we can to help her. Isn’t she quite the gorgeous lady?

Reagan the OES

Wilson: Miss Reagan has come a long way since we began to foster her and we hope she will find her fur-ever home soon. She truly deserves a second chance.

Elsa: Well that’s it for this week’s hodgepodge of rather unrelated photos. We hope everyone has a great weekend and manages to find a lovely view or three of Mother Nature at her finest. Stay warm and make it a pawsome weekend.

Wilson: Yes, what my little sister said. Happy Friday and have an even better weekend.

    1. Many thanks. We hope your Mum feels better soon. So sorry so much has kind of converged at the same time. And thanks for the good wishes for Reagan. I think her adoption is in the works. 🤞🏼

  2. So lovely to see a natural vet dear friends and we hope sweet Reagan will find her furever home soon 🙏 Stay warm and lots of love to you all 💕🐕 xxx

  3. That’s an interesting VET there in the mountains, Wilson and Elsa. We’re always very enthusiastic to see that there are more natural healers in this world😺😺18F…that’s very cold, also for us..brrr…The pictures are outstanding! Why is New York standing in the garden, Elsa, one doesn’t miss it when they’re living in such a beautiful environment, right? We hope that cute doggie finds a furrever home soon. Will send Good Luck Pawkisses for him and for all of you Extra Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead too🐾😽🍀

    1. Thanks Stippy and Peachie. Dr. Jeff is one of those rare breed of vets and all around good human. We were lucky to have had him as long as we did.

That NY statute is part of a miniature golf park. Our Mom probably should have edited it out but she was in a hurry (both when she drove past Pikes Peak as well as getting her post published). You guys are way too clever to have picked up on it. 😻

  4. Java Bean: “Our Mimmier and Pippier watch that Rocky Mountain Vet on Animal Planet, have we mentioned that? They were just talking about him today!”
Lulu: “You have to be careful about toe maintenance. Mama was trimming the furs around my toes the other day and discovered a swollen nail, which has a yeast infection, and now I have to get my foot soaked every day FOR TEN MINUTES! Can you believe it?”
Chaplin: “Isn’t that better than a rampant yeast infection?”
    Lulu: “The jury remains out.”

    1. Oh no…trust me, Lulu…you don’t want a yeast infection. So sorry; hopefully the soaks will clear it up quickly.

Dr. Jeff is a really good guy. In addition to his low-cost clinic model, he’s been the cross country track team coach for years. He’s loving the mountain life and I’m very happy for him. Even though it means he’s not anywhere close to our neighborhood anymore. We wish him health and happiness.

  5. I posted a comment, but WordPress said it was a duplicate. I only posted it once, but I don’t see it. In any case – I hope you all enjoy the weekend.

    1. Sometimes WP gets dodgy. Thanks for the heads up. I think your comment posted. I’ll check it on the laptop later this evening. Appreciate you letting me know.
      FYI, your comment posted.

  6. The Denver Dog Fair!? Sounds like heaven. Good to see Dr. Jeff looking so well, too. Hope you and yours had a happy T-day!

    1. It was a fantastic event! The organizers did a super job. We plan to so next year already!

Dr. Jeff is such a warrior with a heart of gold. He seems happy up in the hills and I suspect he’s going to be winding down the practice in the near future.

  7. Majestic views, old friends and new ones and what?? 17 stomachs? That boy remains me of my son when he was a teenager, LOL.

Thanks for another wonderful tour, kids

  8. Reagan is one pretty pup and looks so sweet. I hope a good family finds and adopts her, and thank you so much for fostering her. Prayers for the kind-hearted Dr. Jeff. As for your weather….brrrrrr!!

    1. Thanks. She reminded me of sweet Norman with that grey eye patch. I hope we can help find her a new home. It was chilly early but warmed up to the mid-40’s which almost seems like a heat wave. LOL Have a good weekend.

    1. Mother Nature can be cranky, that’s for sure. We hope she calms down a bit so we can ease into wintery weather. Keep positive thoughts for Miss Reagan; we’re working hard to get her name out there. Have a great weekend.

  9. Guess winter decided to show up early. Lovely mountain views!
We had 4″ of snow/mix and with the temps dropping this week, it might stick around for a while. Complacency set in after several warm years, but it looks like ‘normal’ temps will put us in freeze mode sooner than later. Perhaps a white Christmas this year?

    1. Thanks. We almost never get a white Christmas but these days you never can hold your breath when it comes to a winter wonderland. I’m sure we’ll see more snow in the days ahead. Stay safe and warm.

  10. Oh Reagan deserves a wonderful home for Christmas! A forever one…….and we love all the beautiful photos and smiling faces – makes us get all excited about the holidays and all the love that’s in the air this time of year!!!!! We’ve been in the 30s here so I guess we can’t complain about cold compared to 18 degrees…..but it DOES feel like “Santa weather” so I’m not gonna complain! Sending you all big huggies from me AND my Mom!

    Love, Teddy

    1. She sure does, Teddy and Mom. We have our paws crossed for Reagan. Have a wagnificent weekend.

  11. We are with you about Mother Nature…It was 22 degrees this morning Brrrrrr!! Lovely skies and ranch photos!

Paws Crossed Reagan finds the pawfect furrever home!
    xoxo,
    Rosy & Sunny

    1. Thanks! I don’t mind the cold but it was quite the adjustment given that it’s been in the 60’s. While her fosters have done a remarkable job, we’re doing everything we can to find Reagan a permanent home. 🤞🏼 Enjoy a weekend that’s full of sunshine!

    1. Our Mom always has a soft spot for senior dogs-Norman was a senior and he was extra special. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for her. Have a great weekend, John!

  12. It’s cold here too, and quite snowy, from a lake effect system. We have a few inches go heavy snow…ugh. We didn’t even want to go out to ‘play’ our fence game with the neighbor pooch. But at least we are NOT as cold as you…17F was the latest e=-we saw for here. You may keep your 18F, Brrr! Pike’s Peak is so beautiful. The highest hits around here are the artificial ones for ski addicts, BOL!! Actually we do have some high hills, north of us…but nope, can’t call them mountains!
We hope Reagan gets a great forever home!
We giggled at the pup with her that bag…our MJF would hold/carry things, too, for a picture session, but a treat bag?? Never!! BOL!

Glad you got to spend time with the Grandpa, and we hope he gets to celebrate many more!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Many thanks. Our scenery is quite striking which is probably why so many people moved here.

We’ve got our paws crossed for Reagan. Hopefully a special someone will see her details and decide she’s perfect for them. Have a great weekend-don’t work too hard.

  13. Those views! Both the mountains and the plains – each possess their special something.
It’s important to keep your toes looking ship-shape, Elsa, even if you don’t like getting them done!
Best of luck to Reagan! I have faith she will find her furever home.
Happy weekend to all o’ y’all!

    1. Thanks Dale. Our mom especially loves the contrast between the mountains and the plains. We’re lucky to have them both! I’m just glad I’m through having my toes worked on for another month or so. Yuck…I’m ever so glad it’s behind me. Wishing you a terrific weekend.
      Your Rocky Mountain Friends,
      Elsa & Wilson 🐾

      1. I can’t say I blame her. I’d love to have both, too! Some things we just have to grit our teeth and bear!
Lotsa love to you all! xoxo

  14. I like cold weather actually so this is so nice for me, sunny not hot. For now…
love Dr Jeff’s tshirt message so much. Love to you all
    LeeAnna

    1. I don’t mind the cold, but whoa nellie…it was quite the shock after last week’s 60’s. We prefer 4 seasons. I noticed his tee when I was adding the copyright-he really is a good guy and that just underscores it. Hope you’re doing better. You’ve been on my mind-sending loads of tender thoughts your way. 💙

  15. We are under a lake effect snow warning and are socked in. Chester loves the snow but walks are pretty short. Reagan is adorable! I hope she finds her furever home quickly!

    1. Thanks Martha. We have our paws crossed for her. Cold walks have to be monitored with older pets (and people!). Have a nice weekend.

  16. It was eight degrees on our walks this morning, but we all love it. We have been outside a lot enjoying the cold, playing games of chase and stuff. The mountains are gorgeous as long as you don’t have to drive in them when it is snowing according to our mom. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Brrrrrr, guess we shouldn’t complain but it was quite the contrast from recent days of mid-60’s. The latest storm was a bit dicey but CDOT does a pretty good job clearing the roads. If people would just slow down there’d be less accidents. AWD won’t help on ice and people just need to realize that. Enjoy those brisk temps and have a pawsome weekend.

  17. Love the colours of your header! And wonderful evocative photographs.
You’ve all been having a busy time, despite the nip in the air.

  18. Paws crossed for Reagan and just the right home any day now! Marley and I, if we adopt any other critters, are only looking at senior pets. We’re too old for puppies and kittens, and giving a senior homeless pet a soft place to land seems just the right thing.

    1. We share that sentiment. Besides there’s no bouncy, rambunctious pup to deal with, just a nice old lady, in Reagan’s case. Wishing you a great weekend.

    1. Isn’t she though? We sure hope so. Placing seniors is always hard-everyone wants a fully trained, adorably cute puppy or very young dog. This girl has been around the block but has come a long way and deserves a great home. She’ll make someone a very nice companion. Have a great weekend.

      1. 🙁 My neighbor got a puppy. She’s in her 70s. She had a hard time training it so she finally put it in a very $$ puppy camp for two weeks. She’s managing better but the pup isn’t completely housebroken. I’m not sure why she didn’t try to find an adult instead. I love kittens but I haven’t adopted one in decades. Too many older cats need homes and they are wonderful pets.

        1. Yikes, your neighbor is either very brave or clueless how much easier an adult dog (especially a senior) can be. Same with kitties. They’re adorably cute but oh my…the energy needed. Yikes!

          1. Her old dog died and she either forgot how much work puppies are or she got a whole lot older. I was expecting to see the pup on a milk carton. 🙂 Adorable but yikes. It’s a Morkie (which I had never heard of).

            1. Oh boy, they can be handfuls. Even if they are adorably cute. Housebreaking in particular, or so I’ve been told. I wish her the best of luck-she’s gonna need it.

                1. Yup…that photo of the doodle…same thing, I looked the trainer up. I nearly fainted.
Well mostly because I could never afford having someone else training my dog for five grand. I’ve always had to figure out a way to work with all their quirks for a bag of treats and lots of repetition and patience.

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but please no growling.
