Monday Musings ~ December 23, 2024

Elsa ChristmasPop-culture can provide us with new terms and this week’s convergence of the two holidays on Wednesday, gives us an opportunity to do just that by combining the two holidays into a new term. Happy Chrismukkah week! Elsa here. That portmanteau neologism is a perfect example. Mind you, we’re not trying to be disrespectful of either holiday, but we thought it might be a nice way to acknowledge both holidays in today’s smiles. Without further adieu, let’s enjoy more than one smile for today, shall we?

Monday smile

We all have heard songs where people hear/sing the wrong lyrics. Humans have been messing them up on some songs forever (Manfred Mann’s Blinded by the Light immediately comes to mind). Apparently dogs have done it as well, even with our great hearing.

And for our Jewish friends, we hope you like this smile.

Monday smileHowever you celebrate this week’s holidays, we hope you’re not spinning out of control and send our very best wishes to you and yours. Have a safe and pawsome holiday(s) spent with your friends and families.

Monday smile

P.S. That pic of me at the top is my way of saying I hope we’re done with the photo shoots for a good long time. And here I thought I could escape being exposed like my brother was last week. Sigh…no such luck.

The Ranch will be taking a few days off to relax and rejuvenate and are not completely positive if we’ll post this Friday. We’ll catch up with you soon. Happy holidays everyone!

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. So glad you liked it. Mom wasn’t sure it was ok for our Jewish friends (so far, everyone seems ok with it-whew). We hope you have a lovely celebration of the rededication of the temple. Sending our best wishes. 🕎

    1. It only happens about every 15 years or so. Kinda fun. Hope your day is filled with all the joy of the season(s).

  2. Oh, Elsa. We now understand your obsession with chewing your Mom’s glasses. The indignity deserves at least a dozen pairs! We hope there are lot of Christmas presents for you!

    1. It was a good thing my son was an optician for years. I have a pair of reading glasses in every room in my house! Last time I counted, I think there was 18, including prescription sunglasses (I can’t read in the sun-the light is too harsh). It’s great having them everywhere…until I need to update the prescription LOL We hope you have a terrific holiday season.

  3. Happy Christmas Eve dear friends………we love the toons and message and want to wish you ALL the most wonderful holiday (and break!) EVER. Thanks for making us giggle, for giving us beautiful artwork and photos from your Mom, and for being our friends. Here’s to a HOPEFUL and PEACEFUL new year……………………

    Love, Pam and Teddy

    1. Merry Christmas, Pam. Glad you enjoyed our smiles. We are truly blessed with your gift of friendship and kindness over the years. Thank you. We’re hoping 2025 will be a good year for us all. 💙

    1. Many thanks, Frank. We learned of the frequency and thought it was interesting enough to share with everyone. Sending you warm wishes for a lovely holiday.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. I have found myself mashing up lyrics sometimes as well, in a couple of cases…for years! Oops. That mashup name struck us as clever. Wishing you and yours all the best this holiday season.

    1. We searched for more but weren’t successful but glad you enjoyed anyway. As you can tell, Elsa really does not enjoy having her picture taken. She even gave me raspberries. Best wishes for a merry and bright Christmas.

    1. No matter what, we think every week should start with a smile. Thank you for your good holiday wishes.

    1. Glad you liked it. It cracked us up. I guess it happens about every 20 years or so. Who’d have thunk it? Best wishes for a pawsome Cat-mas.

    1. That song has baffled most people I think. There are some hilarious spoofs of the lyrics. We had to chuckle about the mashup of the two holidays. We hope your celebration is full of peace and joy of the season.

    1. Thank you, Thomas. I chuckled out loud with that one because I’ve done similar mashups. Wishing you the best Chrismukkah ever.

  4. Happy Howlidays to you and the family. Hope you have a wonderful few days. Mom has lots of ear worms with the wrong words for Christmas songs, so the cartoon gave her a good laugh.

    1. We all do, Joy. 😉 Some musical artists’ ability to garble the lyrics in these days of social media, makes it easy to ‘spread’ the word so to speak. Wishing you and GBGV pupsters a wonderful Christmas with all the right words. Happy Monday.

  5. Love the chuckles. Good way to start the week.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays as usual.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups and a big hug to their mom. ♥

    1. Thanks, Sandee. And thanks for adding us to your link. We {heart} your Awww Monday’s blog hop. Have a great week celebrating the holiday.

  6. Happy Holidays to your family! My cats Freddie and Tish send their sincerest holiday greeting to Elsa and Wilson! They hope the dogs don’t mind a little meow among their barks.

  7. Elsa, I’m very impressed with your knowledge of classic rock with your reference to Manfred Mann! You could have been much more obvious with your example and referenced Hendrix “kiss[jng] this guy but you took the high road. And, nice post and nod to the convergence of two major Holidays celebrated around the world. Happy Chrismukkah to you, Wilson, Mom, and any and all Ranch visitors during the coming week. As Ringo is fond of saying, “Peace and love.” ☮️❤️

    1. I thought about that one. They are so many tunes that fall into the category. Wishing you and your Golden Girls a very happy holiday season.

  8. Poor Elsa! Your mum might be hors de combat, but she can still wrangle a Christmas photo opportunity!
The cartoon reminded me of my mother who, as a child, was put in the corner at school for singing not ‘Jesus wants me for a sunbeam’ but ‘Jesus wants me for a submarine!’
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
