Monday Musings ~ November 24, 2025

Thanksgiving bird

Happy Thanksgiving week. Wilson is particularly chuffed that food will be at the center, along with gratitude. He thinks it’s a whole week of celebrating food for which he’s extremely thankful. While it’s Thanksgiving week, it’s still a Monday which means we want to share a smile, or in this case three smiles since we couldn’t decide on just one.

We can’t help but wonder if Noah was a factor in putting turkey on Thanksgiving tables but  do know Thanksgiving typically ushers in the Christmas season in earnest. Mostly thought of as the low-to-no-stress holiday with food, family and football punctuating this holiday along with a good dose of gratitude. This year however, it’s going to be a bit different around the Ranch as we are preparing to move. It’s been stressful in ways I couldn’t have imagined but we’re taking it as best as we can and trying to keep meltdowns to a minimum. Now on to Monday’s smiles.

Celebrating Thanksgiving in the US is well known for watching a load of football with the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys teams always playing on Thanksgiving Day. This year the festivities begin at 1:00 PM Eastern time with the Lions playing the Green Bay Packers and the Cowboys playing the Kansas City Chiefs around 4:30 PM. Not content with over 6 hours of football, the NFL is offering a third game with the Cincinnati Bengals playing the Baltimore Ravens beginning around 8:30 PM. If you like football, Thursday will be your day. If you don’t make yourself a leftover turkey sandwich and go for a walk.

Needless to say, because this has been a crazy time even before we began to think about the upcoming holidays, the Ranch will be taking an extended break for the next month to move and settle into our new digs. We will not be online much but please know we’ll be with you in spirit. We want to say thank you for your support and friendship and look forward to seeing you again once we get settled. Wilson has already christened the new neighborhood and gave the trail a four paws rating. He has been enjoying multiple visits introducing his presence on the canine bulletin board where he’s already left several messages while enjoying an absolute olfactory feast.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. We hope to return soon. Until then, keep smiling and have a Happy Monday.

Live, love, bark!  🐾

(You may be seeing this a few times – LOL – I kept getting a notice that said “Nonce verification failed” when I tried to post a comment! Hopefully, this one goes through…I wanted to say that I hope you and Wilson had a lovely Thanksgiving! Your cartoons cracked me up! Moving? Oh my, we just did that (6 years ago this January)…I wish you all the best and for a stress-free move! Happy Holidays in your home!

Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the smiles. Wilson & I actually had a fairly quiet Thanksgiving down at my Dad’s and two brothers. Surprisingly we didn’t end up watching any football. My 95-yr. old Dad recently gave up his car and he enjoyed just catching up with us. It was a nice stressless day, one that we all needed. Thanks for swinging by the Ranch and leaving a comment. We 💙 visitors.

  4. Thanks for the laughs! Good ones and always love to see photos of Wilson! Everyone in your new neighborhood is going to love Wilson!
Wishing you and him all the best as you move, I know you will be sooo glad to have it all over and be settled in!! We will be happily awaiting your return! 🥰
And I hope you both were able to take a break from the moving stress and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of yummy food! 🧡💛

Many thanks. He’s already a big hit with the staff in the sale office. When I show up without him, they act very disappointed. Then again, maybe it’s because I’m there fussing about something that’s happened (or more likely didn’t happen). He is after all much cuter than me.

We had a nice quiet Thanksgiving with my Dad and two brothers. Didn’t even watch any football-it was just fun talking to the guys and all the surprisingly good food (my one brother is not known for being a good cook but he did a great job with the turkey and there were enough side dishes for me to get totally stuffed). And the traffic down to my Dad’s was actually manageable. 😉 Hope your holiday was equally as lovely.

Wilson became a featured pet in the hospital’s pet therapy 2026 calendar for the month of July. I’m sure it was due to his patriotic wear. I’ll send you a pic. Happy Saturday.

      1. Thanks for the email! I replied. Congrats to Wilson! Looking good.

Haha, about Wilson being much cuter. No surprise that he charmed the office staff already! So they should make sure everything goes perfectly for you, due to him working his charm. LOL!

Thats wonderful that you had such a great Thanksgiving with your dad and brothers. 💕

We are with Brad’s parents and his sister’s family in TN. Having a very good time. Going to see a dinner theater show with everyone this afternoon. We had plenty of yummy food as well. 😋

You, your family and Wilson have great Thanksgiving! One of the blessings that I count today is that my husband loves to cook the bird, and he’s actually pretty good at it. All I have to do is make the rolls and keep the wine flowing. 🙂

  7. I would definitely say that moving at ANY time of the year is stressful but around the holidays? I send you good vibes mama.

As for Wilson, he’s just letting peeps know he’s on the scene is all.

Big laughs on Noah’s turkey special. The Ark was running a sale on ’em I do believe.

Hope you guys have a great day tomorrow with plenty of good food and fun, the football is wall to wall.

Glad you enjoyed the smiles. Wishing you all manner of a great Thanksgiving. Go team! 😉

      1. Hahahahaha! Well, life never gives us sufficient heads up, does it?

And yet, when it’s all done you’ll look back at this time and laugh. It might require a glass of wine in order to do so but yanno, it will still count.

All the best to you Ranchers.

Go Packers! (Only because my fantasy league opponent has Gibbs of the Lions).

I remember that twice in my childhood years we moved house and city in mid December. It must have crazy for my parents, moving house with three young children and a business. And the first time we didn’t even have a car. That came after that move…And Christmas was very strange that year as well. The second time was a bit better, we did have a car, we just moved across town, but the weather was terrible, and the new school was a good 1 1/2 miles away…oh well, at least we stayed there for 20+ years! I got married out of that home…then my parents moved yet again, LOL!

Try to find a moment here and there to breath and relax…better for your health…Wilson, by the time you are established in your new den, all the neighborhood pups will know who you are!

Glad you enjoyed the funnies. Things are starting to fall in line regarding the closing so I’m hopeful things all work out. I’m hearing rumors of snow next week-not excited about that forecast. When we first moved to Denver back in the 80’s, we moved in the middle of December and it was wet, but not icy. The apartment was just 2 blocks away-it wasn’t too bad. I started early and had most of it all squared away by mid-afternoon. We even put up the Christmas tree that evening. Of course, I’ve accumulated a ‘few’ things since then. LOL Moving is always the pits even when you have good movers and a great friend who moved constantly growing up as an Air Force kid. If anyone can make it smooth, she can! I’m trying hard to take decompression time daily and doing lots of deep breathing exercises. Thanks heavens our walks provide me with opportunities to let Nature’s healing balm nurture us. We hope you and the pups have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs and tail wiggles, Ingrid. 💙

While new digs are exciting (more rural perhaps?), getting there is no picnic. My last move was 35 years ago, and even then, with ‘youthful’ vigor, I vowed I would never move again. Let’s hope I get to keep my vow! 🤞🏼 I’ll keep you in my thoughts, hope there won’t be any ‘surprises!’

Many thanks, Eliza. I’ve been here for nearly 24 years so I know what a pain moving can be-even with off-loading gobs of stuff. Back when I moved in I had my daughter to help pack and commiserate (we moved from a 6 bedroom to a 3 bedroom-my garage was filled with all the excess back then for a good while. While she won’t be here this time but my best friend will keep me company on the day of the move and she’s amazing organizationally. I feel truly blessed. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  18. Love the funnies. You made me chuckle more than once.

I’ll miss you during your move, but will await your return. I know Wilson will be helping every step of the way.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays as always.

Have a fabulous day and Thanksgiving my friend. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

  19. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

  20. Our realtor was a godsend when we bought our current house, and that’s a great leg up on having relocation go more smoothly. Of course, having Wilson around to keep everyone on their toes will also move this move forward successfully. Wishing you the very best of Thanksgivings, and a safe and relatively stress-free move!

Many thanks, Bruce. My realtor has been invaluable in dealing with all the hiccups that came with the sale of my house, and dealing with the various scenarios on the purchase of a new one. I’d be in the looney bin if it weren’t for her!

Wilson and I wish you and yours a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. Wilson says enjoy a big turkey leg for him at half time. Happy Monday.

      1. Wilson, I know your Mum is busy with the move and all, but I wanted to make sure I properly thanked her here for subscribing and commenting on my site. I always enjoy her takes on things and it is greatly appreciated. Let her know when you get a chance…and I know you’re busy as well keeping her as relaxed as possible!

You’re too kind, Bruce. Yes, things are a bit crazy here in box hell but she just received word the closing is confirmed for Friday. Then we’ll likely spend weeks in box hell at the new place. She’s hoping today is the last time she has to shovel the 40 acres of corner lot sidewalk today. Hope to see you again soon, as soon as I can get through all the boxes, that is. 🙃

Moving is such a chore!! The only good thing about it is that it forces you to go through stuff and get rid of things you no longer need. But that doesn’t make it fun. Keep breathing, and I hope the new place will be perfect for you and Wilson.

Thanks. Calling it a ‘chore’ is a polite way of saying it. I have other words to describe it but since this is a G-rated blog, I forego those. I’ve been culling tons of clothes, donating extraneous kitchen items and proverbial junk and there still seems to be mountains of it judging by all the boxes I’ve packed. At my age, this is going a whole lot slower than it did 23+ years ago when I moved into my current home. I just hope everything goes according to the schedule which is pretty tight. One false move and I’ll be housed in the looney bin-or under a bridge. Wishing you, Marley and all your furry friends a safe and Happy Thanksgiving and a ‘wagnificent’ Monday.

Everything will work out fine and you will be settled in the new place before you know it.

Yeah, can you believe anyone could be so daft as to move in the late 70’s? But you’re absolutely right, I’m lucky I have Wilson underfoot, er I mean by my side. Just what I need…another gigantic obstacle in moving the many boxes out of the kitchen. LOL Take good care in our absence-we’ll see you on the other side!

  26. Speaking of football, howzabout those Ponies? Could this be the year? Nah, they’ll break our hearts once more, just wait and see. Hope you and Wilson get plenty of good eats on Thursday wherever you end up during your move.

I’m afraid to say I’m becoming a believer since that’s when they usually make a U-turn and go winless for the rest of the season. Still, I was more than pleased to read the QB calling out a certain orange hued fella about his shameful comments last week to a reporter doing her job. Bravo, Bo! And then he deleted his social media to avoid the ridiculous backlash. Double bravo, sir.

I’m headed to my Dad’s for T-Day and pray my one brother doesn’t poison us. He’s not the best of cooks (in fact, I’m not sure he cooks at all) but he’s got the enthusiasm of a horde of Mongols at the battle of Mohi so we’ll encourage him and bring plenty of side dishes. Wishing you and Reiko a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hear turkey (minus the skin cuz that’s a no-no) is a high value treat in some pup’s minds. 🤞🏼 Happy Monday.
