Monday Musings ~ December 29, 2025

Monday smileWell, we’ve gone and done it…managed to survive 2025 (presuming we can get through the next two days but we’re trying to be optimistic). It was a bit touch and go there for a while but look what doggedness will do for you.

I’m personally not into the whole resolutions thing and Wilson seems to echo my sentiment telling me…and I’m quoting here…”None of this New Year/new me bollocks. Last year I was floofy and fabulous and this coming year I’ll be floofy and fabulous.” Period.

Well ok then…I guess he and I won’t be having that conversation reviewing/reiterating the house rules. Though I still will continue to try to enforce cajole the barking rule. Wish me luck.

Since we’re not party animals it’ll just be the Floof and me ringing in the new year. I personally will be taking a hard look at went well last year and reflect on how it lines up with my goals. None of that resolution thing but we will try to be hopeful for 2026 and hope however you ring in your new year, it’ll meet all your resolutions/expectations. Best wishes for safe and Happy New Year from the Ranch, erm…Barn. Happy Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  2. Yeah I’m with you on the resolutions. Best to put a solid and confident foot forward than to make promises that are mostly random ones anyway.

Wishing you a very peaceful, easy NYE and the best of everything in 2026 mama

PS- Floofy and fabulous is the way to go

Resolutions seem like a to-do list for the first couple of weeks in January, not usually anything more than wishes. People would be better off setting achievable goals than making vague resolutions, IMHO. But that’s just me. Peaceful and easy are the words for 2026. Let’s hope they can deliver. Wishing you a year of good health, happiness, with many memorable moments sprinkled throughout 2026.

      1. In the final week of this year, I set running goals for myself come January that I plan on cooking up. I lost two pounds, not sure how, but I’ve still got ten to go so I’ll hold off on the party. I think it’s a personal journey that isn’t win or lose so much as it is try.

Let’s hope for better things for and from humankind. It’s a long shot, I know, but that whole trying thing has to be good for more than running and weight loss, eh?

All the best to you mama, peace and love

  3. Wilson, best get ready for that first hug in 2026. It is gonna be a doozy. Monika, I so agree with your outlook on the New Year. No resolutions, but instead a basic check of whether or not we’re on track with where we want to be in general…regardless of the calendar. And, a pivot (or more!) as needed towards achieving our goals. New Year’s Eve…nice and quiet at home base. Happy New Year!🎉

Good for you, Bruce. I love hearing that others share that “nice and quiet” approach though I don’t begrudge those who like to tie one on for NYE-it’s just not my jam. Wishing you a year of good health, happiness, with loads of memorable moments sprinkled throughout.

Realizing it’s ‘just another day’ is a good way to look at it. But with the craziness going on in the world, it’s nice to know a lot of people are beginning to pause and recalibrate which is what we’ll be doing. Gelukkig nieuwjaar!

  6. All of us at the Golden K will be safe and tucked into our beds by 10:00 if we can make it that long. I am not a new year’s resolution guy. But as you suggest, we can always learn a little from some reflection.

‘We live a cyclical life. Every twelve months, we’re handed a natural moment to pause, reflect, and choose our next path with intention. The year’s end invites us to slow down just long enough to “hear ourselves think” and to reconnect with the purpose and priorities that matter most to us.’

I didn’t write that. I read it as part of a larger piece and it resonates with me.

Happy New Year to the Barn Bunch from the Golden K Pack! Wishing you all the best in the new year as you get settled into your new digs.

    Cheers!

I think Benjamin Franklin was on to something with his “early to bed, early to rise” advice. I love that intention aspect of ushering in a new year. I think there would be more happy people around if more people saw it as an excellent opportunity for deliberate purpose rather than just a moment of simple celebration. Bravo to you. Wishing you and the Golden Girls a lovely evening and a wonderful 2026.

  11. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

Wishing you and Wilson a very Happy and Peaceful New Year, Monika. I’ve enjoyed 2025 with you and look forward to 2026.

  12. I’m the outlier. I actually do resolutions and I typically achieve them and am consequently hated for that by every one I tell, so let’s keep that between us, capisce? My short term goal is to make it past 8:30 on New Year’s Eve. Truth. The odds are looking about 50/50. Have a very happy celebration with Wilson and relax – you deserve some down time after the nightmare of relocation. How about dem ponies. eh? 🍷🍺🍸

Good for you. Folks like you are the exception to the rule about resolutions but know your secret is safe with me. May 2026 be a good one for you and the little floofball.

I swear, those donkeys have managed to surprise me. And while they’ve moved, they’ll always be the San Diego Chargers and always loathed. 😈

Resolutions hardly ever pan out or make it past Valentine’s Day. It seems like an exercise in futility. Goal setting is a better strategy. Either way, we wish you all a wonderful 2026!

  14. New Year resolutions? Not in this household, just a queue of dogs telling me what improvements in their diets they would prefer in the year to come – and probably preparing a list for the butcher as I type….

  19. We don’t do resolutions either. Mom has goals for the year which we work on and do well at attaining normally. No parties here either on New Years. Paws crossed the moron behind us doesn’t do fireworks as Bailie doesn’t handle them well. Happy New Year to you two and good luck remembering to write 2026 the first weeks of the year.
