Monday Musings ~ November 2, 2026

Welcome to November! Is it just me or are you having a hard time believing we are 52 days until Santa Paws arrives. We hope you had a peaceful but fun Halloween. It was fairly subdued around here, and as I expected, no little goblins or ghosts stopped by, likely due to the HOA hosting a trick or trunk event (complete with adult beverages) but even that didn’t seem to attract a lot of kids. The neighborhood is still filling in with new families but it seems like people celebrate Halloween differently than when I was a kid where we walked for blocks in search of the best candy. Now days, kids attend parades at malls or in business shopping districts in daylight. Oh well, no biggie…just trying to figure out what to do with the bag of chocolate I’m left holding. Any takers on a bunch of ‘fun size’ Snickers?

The most exciting thing to have occurred over the weekend was the return to standard time. You’re probably saying, but wait, didn’t Congress vote to move to daylight time all year long? Well, the House voted for that but the U.S. Senate did not vote on that so we have to deal with changing clocks that don’t automatically change and try to sync our circadian rhythms to manipulated time. Returning to or maintaining Standard Time year-round is strongly supported by the medical and scientific communities as well as safety organizations for the reason that it aligns human biology with natural sunlight. We’ll have to see how this shakes out after the mid-term elections to see if Congress can actually pass meaningful legislation.

But putting aside political shortcomings, it’s Monday so that means we will start the week with a smile. Our friend from Indian Hills is back again with another groaner chuckler, depending on your personal take. Happy Monday. We hope you have a great week.

Monday smile

  1. Happy Tuesday! 😀
You will be happy to know that your meme did get a chuckle out of me! I loved milk duds when I was a child. 😄

You can send the snickers this way. LOL! We don’t get trick or treaters like we used to, due to a big development going up behind us. It was farmland when we moved here. Sigh!

I meant to include a quote about DST and forgot! One feels like putting their pajamas on at 5pm now! 🤦‍♀️

    1. Be careful what you wish for. LOL I think kids nowadays ‘celebrate’ differently than when we were kids. Kinda sad-they don’t know what they missed out on.

  2. Mew mew mew Mistur Vince did a grate job with Monday Mewsing Miss Monika an Wilson!! So funny!!!! Where HAS this yeer gone? Wee still inn June heer in our mindss… our Autumm has bee warmer than usual an quite lovelee so no complaints. Maybee a lite Winter? Do wee dare hope? An wee due need lite an Sunshine to set our body clockss (do wee tick?) propurrley. ***nose bopss*** BellaDharma an (((hugss))) Bellasita Mum

    1. Glad you enjoyed the latest Vince sign. We’re not holding our breath about winter. Nature has been very fickle around here. We’ll just try to cope as best as we can. So far, the El Niño has been somewhat of a dud. Enjoy a day full of sunshine dear BellaDharma and Bellasita.

  3. Lulu: “We didn’t get a single trick-or-treater here! It started drizzling early and then it started raining and nobody can cope with rain in Southern California. So our Dada says he’ll take one for the team and eat all the candy himself …”

  4. I’d be happy to stay on Standard Time, but the myth of Daylight Saving is strong. I laughed at the sign. Thanks for that.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the sign. I’m with you on standard time. Congress has enacted daylight savings time a few times, only to repeal it. Hope things have been less busy for you this week. Happy Monday.

  5. I am hoping someone, or a bunch of someones, decides to just leave the clocks be. I like gaining the hour but I don’t like everything else about this. As for the trick or treaters, I don’t get them around here, at all. To the point where I no longer buy candy.

That sign maker is so cheeky clever.

    1. I’m with you, Marc and think it’s just folly to think you can game time. Next year, I’ll know better regarding Halloween candy. Just didn’t know what to expect in the new ‘Hood. Vince is hilarious-I love his sense of humor! Happy Monday, sir.

        1. It’s a wonder we’re still aren’t dragging our knuckles around. I know I had my fair share of Halloween candy as a kid but yeah, it’s ain’t the same by any stretch of the imagination.

            1. Yeah, it must be a sign of getting out when you have a “I remember when” recollection. Those were much simpler times and I sure could groove on more of them.

  6. I hope we can just leave the clocks where they are now. Seems fine to me. I hope you have a super week, Monika.

  7. We had ZIP Trick or Treaters this year. Our neighborhood has changed a lot – AND Halloween habits have too for kids – more “group parties” and activities than back in my day (a million years ago). I wish they’d make up their minds about the time – personally I don’t care one way or the other…..my routine isn’t going to change with the clock!!

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too)

    1. To tell the truth, I wasn’t heartbroken nobody showed up. Answering a doorbell while trying to corral a certain House Pony is not my idea of a relaxing evening. As for daylight savings…my preference is permanently go back to standard time. Less hassle and that way little kids don’t have to walk to school in the dark in the morning. But I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to do nothing. We hope you have enjoyed a lovely Monday!

  8. I’ve given up on the whole giving candy at Hallowe’en because, frankly, there are no more kids in my ‘hood. I really, REALLY don’t need to have any leftovers!

They are all talk, talk, talk over here, too. Some Canadian provinces don’t do the whole DST and some sections of some provinces don’t. I am with you. Just pick one and leave us the hell alone.

    That sign is a classic!

    1. Candy was super expensive this year. Yet another reason not to do it. Glad you enjoyed today’s sign. That guy has such a terrific sense of humor! Happy Monday.

        1. Sadly I’ve been dealing with tech issues today. I just love spending hours on stuff like that. Not. But I;m making progress…even if at the speed of snails.

  9. My cat is such a creature of habit, on Sunday he was begging for dinner way too early. He prefers spring ahead to fall back!

    1. Our pets are far better tuned into their biorhythms. We could take a lesson (or three) from them. Happy Monday.

  10. That funny sign put an instant smile o my face! This time of year, the dogs would definitely vote to get rid of the time change. Thety’re having to wait a whole hour for their breakfasts and suppers, and they Are. Not. Happy. about it!

    1. They aren’t the only ones who don’t enjoy this twice a year time switcheroo! Glad you enjoyed today’s smile. Have a great week.

  11. Standard Time it is Wilson! I remember the last time congress made DST permanent, it didn’t go over well at all and they were foreced to unofficial it MOL…….

    1. We think that’s the best too. Yup, Congress has repealed their past meddlings several times. Hope you guys have a furbulous Monday!

    1. That makes us very happy. Glad you guys enjoyed it! You’re right, in sync biorhythms due to time zones instead of artificial hours would be much better. enjoy a great Monday.

  12. We turned off outside lights, pulled the shades and hibernated on Halloween. We don’t like all the people in the street and coming to our house and Mom doesn’t want to deal with them either. The past two years we simply went out of town. Love the sign guy, always creative!

    1. Glad you enjoyed today’s sign. Vince’s sense of humor always cracks us up. I’m not one to like Halloween much. It seems strange to me and I sure don’t need the doorbell ringing a jillion times and setting off Wilson. Have a great Monday!

  13. I was thinking of you over the weekend knowing your aversion to the time changes. I’m ok with them but if there is going to be one only it must be standard time for a number of reasons but especially because we can’t have kids walking to school or waiting for a bus in the dark!

Halloween was and always is a non-event in our neighborhood which is very rural, properties are spread out and are inhabited by cranky old men like me who don’t want to be woken up as we take our first evening “nap” by 7:00. 🤓

If there was or is such vote for if a cow doesn’t produce milk I vote for udder failure. Milk Duds do not work well with my crowns – those in my mouth not atop my head. 😅

Have a great week. Before you know it we’ll be saying that again….

    1. I totally agree. Research tends to favor standard time for better health outcomes. And even though I don’t have Elsa to administer timed anti-seizure meds, I have never been a fan of daylight savings. I think it’s folly to think you can manipulate time anyway. Just go with the sun and be done with it. That said, we hope your Monday is full of sunshine and the week positive.

  14. I love this time of year and hate fall back. Yesterday was the longest day ever. I was exhausted when I went to bed. Funny what one hour will do.

Love that sign. I laughed out loud.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays as always.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. It’s funny. I feel the opposite. My biorhythms were immediately in sync. LOL Glad you enjoyed today’s smile. We very much appreciate you adding us to your Monday link. You’re the best, Sandee. Have a fantastic Monday!

    1. Not long. It’s falling in the high country and raining off and on at lower elevations. Weather forecasters say maybe later this week. We’ll see. Have a great Monday!

  15. Thank goodness Holloween is over and we can now start to think about Christmas. The shops are starting to fill up with festive goodies and it was a chilly 6C (43F) this morning. I started my Christmas shopping last Monday, would you believe… 😀

    1. Good for you, Paul! You can never start your holiday plans too early in my books and I’m making lists of things. It’s good to be prepared-Christmas will be here before we know it! Have a great Monday.

        1. We tend to be more casual as well since my mum passed away. Dad just likes spending the day with whoever can sow up.

    1. Hahahaha! I can relate to that and likewise hope it’s a great week for us all. Happy Monday!

    1. Glad today’s silliness provided a chuckle to start your week. Hope it’s a good one. Happy Monday.

    1. You could be right. I know whenever they passed it before, they ended up repealing it. Have a great Monday, Jacqui.
