Pet Safe Soap & Natural Sanitizers for Your Pet

As a subscriber to Vet Dr. Andrew Jones’ YouTube channel, I was delighted to see his latest video where he shared his recipe for keeping pets safe and protected during the pandemic. Would you like to make a pet-safe soap or hand sanitizer that won’t harm your pets and can also be effectively used by peeps as well? Check out these easy-to-make products for yourself. I plan on making some sanitizer once I can get my hands on some aloe vera gel. I was lucky having a bottle of the rubbing alcohol on hand prior to panic-buyers wiping out most store supplies.

Have you made any sanitizer yet? What was your experience? Sit, stay, remain healthy, observe social distancing rules, wash those hands and most of all, keep smiling. The Ranch-hands insist on it.

  1. Groovy Goldendoodles – VA – Just a wife and mother (military spouse / retired) that waited almost all her life for a dog of her own. Tried to have them from time to time with little children, but moving so often it was too difficult. Waited patiently for the right time and the right dog.... That time has finally arrived and we were blessed with the Grooviest Goldendoodles ever! Harley carried on with a "solo" act for almost a year after the untimely passing of 4 yr old Leo. Now he and his younger spunkier brother Jaxson plan to share all their canine adventures and antics living in pet friendly Charleston SC, exploring pet friendly places and pet therapy work at the Medical University of South Carolina. Good for you! You couldn’t buy any hand sanitizers for any amount of money around here so necessity became the mother of invention. Stay safe and keep smiling.

  2. Pawsome video🐾
It’s been 18 days since huMom left the property other than a few walkies down our isolated rural roads. When she last went out in the world it was to pick up my cluster buster pawscription & she was pawpared with a small bucket of super soapy water & a wash cloth.
She wore her driving gloves until she was back in the car were she wiped down the door handles, steering wheel & anything she may have touched.
Hand sanitizers are not nessesary if you use soap & water & wash throughly.
She rather that those products went to those working on the front lines like her wagnificent sister.
Stay smart, stay home & stay healthy 💜nose nudges💜

I’m with you on hand washing; it seems the best way to go. And because this is DIY, with products we normally have on hand, commercial hand sanitizer can go to healthcare workers and first responders.

Soap and water for 30 seconds is best, but if I’ve had to open a door at the post office or grocery store, this stuff works well till I can wash. I ALWAYS wash after grocery shopping anyway, especially because it’s still technically cold and flu season in addition to this virus thing.

  3. Yes, I agree. Alcohol is the way to go. Nifty photo! Max insists on cherry blossom scented shampoo. I told him he’s lucky to get a Tide pod.

  5. This is the best picture I’ve seen of Norman. What a cutie! 4-Legger is a pet shampoo company that uses EO’s and all natural ingredients. I have used it and it’s good stuff. Lately they’ve advertised that it can also be used as a hand soap.

  7. Thanks for the wonderful information! We are very lucky to have a few local distilleries and breweries who are pausing their alcohol production and are making hand sanitizer instead!

  8. Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been planning on making some hand sanitizer, but more importantly, I wondered what could be used for a natural disinfectant around the house. The smell of bleach makes me literally nauseous so I don’t use it. I even have the needed ingredients for the sanitizer, and peroxide to clean with!
    Take care. ♥

Luckily I had one bottle in the medicine cabinet. I love using witch hazel in all sorts of concoctions but to be effective against viruses, alcohol is the way to go.

It sure is, though it is not useful for sanitizing surfaces or hands. You need alcohol for that, but if it’s like most stuff right now, you can’t buy any of it either. 😬

I’m with you; but having sanitizer for my bag whenever I have to go out isn’t the worst idea I’ve had. I just mostly washing my hands for a good 30 seconds with soap and water.

              1. True. I am always willing to stretch out my hand for a splursh… like before, when I went to get graham crackers for my son’s birthday key lime pie. 😉

I was fortunate that I had done a bulk shopping spree at the warehouse store in January (had nothing to do with the virus). I have a lot of various cleaners. The video was good and I will make up a cleaner when those items are back in stock. I’m mostly using a vinegar solution for the floors and Windex or a Clorox cleaner for counters.

Good for you. Since hand sanitizers are non-existent on store shelves, making some to carry around in my bag will come in handy. It’s hard to beat the cleaning properties of good old fashioned vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice.

  13. My husband is a bulk shopper…let there be on offer and he is there clearing it out…so our house is stacked with bleach, disinfectant…you name it, from long before the bug hit us…You might have to climb over the stuff to get into the store…but he has it!

I do some stocking up on a few products too although my storage areas are somewhat limited in space. It’s now getting to the point where once excess items have been depleted but seem to have been snatched up by panic buyers. Currently on the hunt for flour and sugar; have no illusion of seeing black beans or rice any time soon. *sigh

      1. Potatoes are the problem here…they are on offer – but at an eye watering price!

thank you! Will refer back to this once rubbing alcohol and peroxide and other items are in the stores………they are completely gone. Stay safe!!!! xoxoxo I have been using Mrs Meyers cleaner (and hand soap because any hand soap is acceptable for hand washing) in some places in our home. I am also using it on our pergo floors because it’s safe for pets. Other areas where Cody and Dakota don’t go I am still using Lysol and am making sure it dries thoroughly. My mother also mentioned good ‘ol vinegar I think mixed with baking soda or something (don’t remember) but I hate the smell of vinegar.

Yes, alcohol and peroxide are in very short supply, like so many food staples and paper products. This world seems to have turned into a Lord of the Flies gentler version of real life. Stay healthy, stay strong and keep smiling. Your mom is right, vinegar is a very effective cleaner and you could blunt the scent by adding some lemon juice or lemon essential oil if it comes down to being the only thing left. Hugs & tail wags. 💖
