Monday Musings ~ October 6, 2025

Over the weekend I transported a relinquished sheepdog to one of our fosters. He’s a sweet boy and was placed with a seasoned sheepdog owner who’ll help him get over his shyness.

While I was gone, it looks like the spirit of Elsa showed up to keep Wilson company. Even as an angel she shares her presence and legacy. This was new behavior from Wilson and clearly was a paw on my shoulder from my beloved Ninja who wanted me to know she’s thinking of us.

Wilson - ghost of Elsa

Which leads me to today’s smile which perfectly sums it up. May you  savor the theft of your heart. Happy Monday, friends.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. LOL, Angel Elsa sounds like shes running a very effective, albeit sassy, interference network! Its hilarious that Wilson, usually so well-behaved, couldnt resist her magic. Totally get it – some dogs just have that persuasive (or maybe just mischievous) aura. Happy Monday, Wilson and Elsa! 🧡💞🧡random wheel

    1. Tails Around the Ranch – Denver, CO – The inspiration behind this blog was one knuckleheaded Standard Poodle named Sam but is now inspired by a House Pony-Wilson. I'm Monika, the upright. Living in the Denver metro area, we post about dogs, rescue and nature. So grab your favorite beverage and be prepared to howl along with our adventures. And don't forget to bark your 'pup-tacular' comment; we'd love to hear from you.

Thanks. She was a spicy Ninja who is so missed. Sorry for the late approval-your lovely comment was buried in the spam folder. Thank you for swinging by.

  2. Elsa will never, ever stray away from the Ranch. Wilson helped deliver that message here, and I am sure he appreciates her still being there. (I’m not sure the koozie shares in that appreciation…)

It’s true, Elsa and Sam were the original Ranch Hands and will always be part of those days. Wilson is such a sweet boy, I’m sure he willingly took her whispers to heart. I know she’s looking out for us even from afar. Ironically, today is Sam’s heavenly birthday. He’d have been 20 today. Hard to believe he’s been gone for nearly 6 years.

  3. Awh on the koozie. Yes, I think Elsa was whispering in Wilson’s ear. 😉
I hope the sheepdog you helped take to a foster home finds a really forever home 💕 I am sure the owner relinquishing him was glad to have your caring support.
Happy Tuesday! LOL at the meme. 😂

No doubt she was heavily whispering! The owner of that sheepie was such a lovely fella and I totally respected his decision. He made the right choice and Boomer is doing very well settling into a great foster situation. I suspect he’ll be ready to be adopted soon. Yay!

  4. my heart did a hop when I saw rescue…. do sheepdog’s shed? I so need a dog
our goal this time was small and non shedding but so far nothing and I need a dog

They have an undercoat so it is possible but unlikely but sheepdogs are pretty high energy and need lots of exercise.

Thanks. I suspect he will be easy to place. He’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve met. Sweet Angel Elsa always worked her magic quietly and no doubt channeled her watching over me through Wilson. She always managed to get her way, no matter how or what.

Glad you liked the new header. It seemed time to update to the autumn season instead of keepng those pretty summer flowers. Happy Monday!

Glad you enjoyed it. It’s so classic when you have a dog! I have no idea what prompted the Floof to chew that up. Usually he just camps out on my bed (even though he knows he’s not supposed to be on he bed) snoozing. He must have heard Angel Elsa sitting on his shoulder whispering to be a stinker. Hope you have a great week, Marc!

      1. It’s great!

Hahahahaha! I can see the back and forth now. Wilson telling her that he should behave and her coming back at him with a sniff and a wise retort.

        You as well mama

  9. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

  10. Aww, I had a similar thought yesterday. My Ryder, with his long beautiful fur, was always bringing in leaves from the yard. It happened a Couple times a day! The smooth girls, with their shorter coats, never carry in leaves. But yesterday, as if he stopped by to visit, there were two leaves in the middle of the floor. I thought, it’s as if Ryder was letting me know he’s still here…

  15. Ninjas are always in the shadows exercising their powers. I give Wilson a total pass on this. Elsa too that sweet girl who I’m sure, like Kali with me, is omnipresent in your life. Early Fall has arrived. It’s the prettiest season of the year at the Golden K but I have a hard time embracing it knowing evil winter follows. I’m too old to change so I will sit in silent resentment of Mother Nature until next May. 🙃. Have a good week at The Ranch!

It was good to get the reminder that she’s still a Ninja and still watching over us. Autumn is our favorite season-it’s the most temperate and any cold snaps seem to flash through quickly. Still I understand it is the harbinger of what’s to come and for us, that’s okay too. We’ll jsut through another layer of clothes on and snuggle with a warm beverage. Here’s hoping the Golden K has a wagnificent week!

  16. My Golden Life – Upstate South Carolina – I love animals, especially dogs. I enjoy US history, and reading biographies of our former presidents and other historical figures. I love the music of the '60s and '70s since I was growing up in those decades. I love the Beatles and Andy Williams equally.
    My Golden Life says:

Oh Wilson! I know you couldn’t help it, buddy – Ninja-Angel Elsa “made” you do it. Just like Angel Ducky makes Zoey be sassy toward Zen at times, especially when he looks at the chew toy she has between her paws.

I often tell people that Ducky sent Zen to pick up where she left off as my constant, my anchor in every storm. And she often assured him – in his early months – that things would work out. Then, after Sam had passed and Zen was settled, she sent Zoey to remind me of what she was like at the same age…always sassy toward poor Shadow while Callie was still with us, but just spoiled-brat little sister on occasion later on. 😂🥰😇

As to that sweet pup you transported, I’m sure his foster mom will help him adjust to life without his person. And I definitely applaud his person for making what was probably one of – if not *THE* – hardest choice(s) of his life. I know I would be absolutely devastated if I ever had to make that choice for either or both of these two. I’m certainly not getting any younger, even though they keep me feeling “young”.

The owner was devastated to give Boomer up but knew it was for the best and I just wanted to hug him. A brave and loving gesture on his part. Boomer is such a sweet boy, but he’s got a great foster. He’s going to make someone a lovely companion. He’s pretty skittish of just about everything with next to no confidence. He reminds me a lot of Wilson when I brought him to the big city from his tiny little rural community. But now he’s much more confident when large noisy trucks pass us on our walks. Not 100% at ease but getting better all the time.

We’re both so fortunate to have these 4-legged guardians come into our lives. I was looking at the calendar for the week and realized tomorrow would have been precious Sam’s 20th birthday. While it’s still tough knowing he’s an angel and I miss him like crazy, thinking about that Knucklehead always makes me smile. Happy Monday, dear Sue.

Not sure what it was all about; he’s normally such a good boy and the worst he does is nap on my bed. Silly boy. Happy Monday.

Normally he has a mature, very unlike sheepdog personality. I have no idea what got over him. But if anyone could get him to chew something up, it’d be Elsa. Have a lovely Monday, Helen.

When I read relinquished I’m always sad. Must be hard to be separated from all you know. He is very fortunate he is going to a foster and not a shelter. I’m pretty sure my cat Gus was cropped out of the line up! He’s mostly good. He’s more of a carpet cat rather than furniture.

Relinquishments are hard on the heartstrings but definitely in the best interest of this dog. I respected the choice of the owner who clearly loved his pet and vice versa. Sometimes life deals folks with challenging life situations but this surrender was anchored in love.

To see that chew job caught me by surprise. Wilson is a great dog. Clearly Angel Elsa was channeling her spirit so I’ll keep that mind when I have to be away for a couple of hours. He’s normally such a great dog and generally engages in very unlikely sheepie behavior. Now I’ll be keener to remember dogs are basically toddlers exploring their world and who may get into trouble easily. Happy Monday!

Two giggles from you this morning. So much for the vet container or whatever that is, and love the cartoon. Gracie did a great job of chewing all of the corners of our baseboards when she was a puppy. Happily she outgrew it!

Happy you enjoyed today’s smile(s). Finding that Wilson assassinated a beverage koozie on the coffee table was quite a surprise. Wilson is always a good boy around the house so this totally caught me off guard. It made me realize Elsa is still keeping an eye out on us and made me smile. We hope you have a terrific Monday.

  23. Had I seen a small cat in the line-up, she would have been easily identifiable as one who has generously decorated (‘scuse me, re-decorated) all wooden and upholstered furniture with her picasso-paws-n-claws.
