Monday Musings ~ November 17, 2025

We hope you had a wonderful weekend but now it’s time to prepare for the week. With less than two weeks until Thanksgiving arrives in the US, preparations are beginning to become more apparent all over the neighborhood. Some folks have decided to blend the last holiday  with the upcoming one. Despite the addition of yet another inflatable, I thought it was kind of clever despite the addition of yet another inflatable to their growing collection. Wilson simply wants to know what will be served. How are you getting ready for Thanksgiving?

Happy Monday!

    1. Thanks, It seemed quite clever! Hope you’re doing well and having better luck with Miss Pixie.

    1. It was a cool way to extend the skellies presence and provide a nice chuckle at the same time. I actually laughed out loud when we walked by. Wishing you a great week!

    2. Isn’t it clever and cute? Nice way to ‘recycle’ the Halloween decor for a few more weeks. 😉

  1. What a fun display, LOL!!!
I have to consider the vegan son…I have a small turkey breast, but no big bird. Just got our oven fixed, so it will be better than when it was Easter and the oven wasn’t working…
All my other mains and sides will be vegan…the problem is shall I adapt my recipes or use vegan cook books…they sometimes have really strange ingredients. Though the vegan food I have made/had always tasted good.

    1. Thanks, isn’t it clever?! As a long time vegetarian, Thanksgiving is the only day I miss the lifestyle. But there’s always plenty to eat even with a bird for everyone else. No doubt you’ll have a tasty holiday meal and get to spend it with your son. Win-win!

  2. That’s a clever display.

We always go to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, about an hour drive from here, and cook and serve dinner there. This year, the kitchen is under reconstruction (mouse chewed the dishwasher hose and everything got wet, had to tear it all out) so there will be no cooking. The plan, just this once, is to get Oriental take out. It’s going to be interesting, but at least we will be together.

    1. Oh no, so sorry about the mouse damage. Little sticker. Oriental doesn’t sound bad at all though! Enjoy.

  3. That is a pretty cool display! I wonder what the are talking about…?! I cannot believe how fast the holidays are upon us! I have already purchased my turkey and am busy planning the menu! Have a wonderful holiday!

    1. Thanks, Dorothy. Isn’t that a clever repurposing of their Halloween decorations. It’s the start of the busiest time of year. I’m planning on moving shortly after so it’s crazy hectic packing (sadly I wasn’t able to close before) but Wilson & I will enjoy it all the same. Best wishes for a great Thanksgiving Day get together with the grands.

  4. Haha, that group of skeletons is really clever. And the tall one has been done up to resemble the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz (green face). It looks like it’s about to grab that unsuspecting turkey, LOL!

    1. I thought it was very clever. And efficient-they won’t have to take down the skellies and store them for a while. Win-win!

  5. I love this display, Monika. I’ve been on a “mission” to push back on Christmas until after Thanksgiving…letting Halloween and Thanksgiving have their moments in the sun. This is another example where people have blended Halloween and Thanksgiving, and it is pretty cool. We actually decorate inside with that in mind, both holidays are on display at present. The outdoor decorations are holiday-neutral and just autumnal in nature, but inside the house a mash-up of these two holidays is taking place as well! Not as dramatic as what is pictured here, of course! It tracks that Wilson would only be concerned with the menu…tell him I am as well.😊

    1. I’m with you, Bruce. Let each holiday have their day in the sun and stop rushing them. Next thing you know there’ll be Valentine’s Day candy in the stores the first of December. Sheesh.

Wilson is not one to miss a morsel. Ever. LOL Have a Happy Monday, Bruce.

    1. Ha! I’m leaving that for the brothers who are in charge since 99% of my cookware is packed. I may regret that level of preparation in more ways than culinarily. Happy Monday!

  6. That is a clever display. This year, for the first time, we have ordered our dinner from Whole Foods. The Producer and I are tired of the days of prep that are over in 60 minutes. We figure our tummies will feel the same with zero prep.

    1. thanks, John. Yeah, I thought it was clever as well.

Good for you with letting Whole Foods take care of your Thanksgiving meal! Once you actually get the bird in the oven, it’s not so bad, but that whole oh-dark-thirty working on that…its soooo 1975. LOL Happy Monday.

        1. Just another Monday in the endless saga of being an adult. Blech. Add moving and well…I’m sure you can fill in the blank.

  7. Right!? Stores are queueing up their generic Xmas music and are already pressing play.

Yeah pretty sweet my son and his wife are doing all the cooking. But unfortunately the reason is that Holly fractured her femur has limited mobility for the next several weeks. (She’s doing well). And other than scrambling eggs I am not a trustworthy chef. 😅 so…..my son to the rescue.

    1. Oh no, sorry to hear about Holly’s injury (hope it wasn’t due to tripping over a dog). Sending loads of ‘pawsitive’ healing energy her way. The early Christmas music tends to set my teeth on grind. I can only take so much of Mariah Carey.

    1. Leftovers were always the best part of the Thanksgiving Day meal. Good for you to be able to share the day with them. Happy Monday, Kate!

  8. Surprised there’s not a Christmas tree and Baby Jesus. 😅.

Low key Thxgivivng at the Golden K with my oldest son and his family. And best thing about it….. wait for it……. They are preparing and cooking everything! Although I will have KP duty throughout the day.

Rainy day recess for the girls at the Golden K. I hope your weather is just how ya like it. Have a great week!

    1. Funny you mentioned that Mike. Different house. LOL Wilson & I walked past a house early this morning that had started on their Christmas decorations. Sheesh. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Whoa…you’re hosting and someone else is cooking? Now that’s a great idea. KP duty isn’t too horrible-so long as you get some leftovers. Have a pawsome Monday. Try to stay dry and give the Golden Girls a treat from me while they’re on recess.

    1. My very first Thanksgiving after I left home was one of those free birds that my boss gave me-thought I’d won the lottery. Talk about gratitude back in the day. Happy Monday, Jacqui!

  9. Love it. Well done.

We’re having air fryer chicken, dressing and potatoes and turkey gravy. A very simple meal.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Big hug to mom and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. Sounds like just a perfect holiday meal, dear Sandee. Good for you! It’s always a pleasure to join your Monday hop. Hugs and tail wiggles.

    1. 😂 Not far from there is a 12 ft. skellie with a Santa hat and HoHoHo tee. Guess you gotta be able to get your money’s worth on buying one of those giant guys. That and it gives you extra time you don’t have to take them down and store them for the next 10 months. Have a super Monday, Martha. Ear rubs to Chester.

  10. We’ll call that creative thinking. It’s definitely not the normal Thanksgiving deco and we kind of like it. Maybe the guests had to wait too long for their holiday meal?

    1. Eighty five years and counting! As you may recall, I’m not a fan of inflatables, but had to admit, that was pretty original and clever. Plus they can milk having the skellies out a little longer. 😉 Have a great Monday!

  11. That’s absolutely hysterical. Love it! As for Thanksgiving prep, the meal has been ordered from a local restaurant and all I have to do is pick it up on Thanksgiving day. Been doing that for a few years now, because as pet sitters we were usually working on Thanksgiving Day, and even though we don’t have a lot of clients that day anymore, I’m happy to let someone else do the cooking.

    1. Thanks-glad you enjoyed today’s smile. I had to give the, a thumb’s up for the cleverness.

Good for you going catered. I was planning on hosting for my Dad and brothers in a new house but the move has been delayed so now may go the same route. Letting someone else deal with that meal is such a great idea. Have a terrific Monday!

    1. I’ve had nearly 50 years of heartbreak from them…when you’re a Bronco fan, faith has been removed from your DNA! 😂

            1. Yeah that was a real heartbreaker. I guarantee youn there were lots of folks in Denver who still pinch themselves with ‘The Drive.’

  12. Clever blending, an extension of a beloved holiday apparently! Fortunately, all I have to do to prepare for T-day is make cran.bread to take to my niece’s. I love that the younger generation are making it easy for us ‘old’ folks! 😀

    1. Lucky you, Eliza. Oooh cranberry bread…yum, yum. All the old folks in my family are staying home-all the young-uns are going out of town. Should be interesting to see what gets served by my two brothers. I’m just hoping it’s not Banquet. LOL Happy Monday.

    1. Thanks, Dan. I think the Wizard of Oz gang has waited 85 years so another couple of weeks shouldn’t be too bad. Wishing you a terrific Monday full of smiles.

    1. thanks, Frank. You could have blown me over with a feather. I expected KC to blow them out-they usually do. It wasn’t pretty but there’s no column for pretty wins is there? Happy Monday!

  13. By the way, I was looking at the Firstie award you got over on the side bar …no, a DOUBLE Firstie Award…I remember that well..never got it, but I loved when someone did.

    1. Thanks, Carole. I think the stars just aligned. That or I had a bad bout of insomnia! LOL

  14. I think I love that particular display more than ANY I have seen so far. Had I come up on that one, no way I wouldn’t have taken pictures of it! Thanks Wilson.

    1. When we walked by, I thought is was pretty clever given what they had up for Halloween. They usually tend to go way overboard with decor so this was very tame. #gobblegobble

    1. As a 30+ year practicing vegetarian, Thanksgiving is the only holiday where I miss meat. My mom used to make the most delicious turkey dinner I’ve ever tasted and each of us girls always tried to honor her memory duplicating it. Have a terrific Monday, Helen.
