Monday Musings ~ February 9, 2026

Welcome to another Monday. We hope you enjoyed your weekend and met your quota of sports viewing. Between the Super Bowl, the Olympics and the all important Puppy Bowl XXII, there was something for everyone. Your football team may not have won but everyone won in the Puppy Bowl with all 150 contestants finding their forever homes. As usual, kittens provided the adorable half time entertainment. Team Fluff again won the “Lombarky” Trophy in the 2026 Puppy Bowl, beating Team Ruff by a score of 73-69 (there was a whole lot more offense in the Puppy Bowl than the Super Bowl) for the second year in a row. Wilson and I offer our best congratulations to Team Fluff. For a look at the highlights. please click here.

We’ve heard folks on the East Coast suffered another brutally cold weekend but hope today marks a turn-around in their temps. With Spring just 39 days away, we’re hoping Nature gives them a much needed break.

So let’s move on to a couple of smiles for today.

Snowman

I realize when you’re freezing, there’s not a lot of funny aboiut it but thought this might bring things into perspective.

We hope you’re staying toasty warm and have a great Monday and even better week.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

You guys sure have been hit with lots of the white stuff so I’m guessing any place without it would be a great place to hitchhike. Come to Colorado-sadly we have practically no snow this winter!

Thanks. It’s been amazingly warm but the next couple of days are going to be pretty chilly. We have t had much of a winter and got used to unseasonably warm temps. Paying the price now! 😂

Thanks. Today is another chilly day but the temps will be back in the 60’s by Monday. Just wish we’d get some moisture-it’s soooo dry here.

With our consistently low humidity, I learned years ago to stay hydrated (inside and out) as I have extremely dry skin anyway. Moisturizer should be purchased in 55 gallon drums! 😂

Omg when I visited family in Las Vegas one Xmas I thought I would scratch my skin off with the cold dry air. I spent most of my vacation going to the store in search of a moisturizer that actually worked. Thank goodness for the mild temps here in Los Angeles. Still I use the extra thick Cetaphil am and pm. Even my doggie gets dandruff when it’s dry 😹

Thanks; glad you got a chuckle from our Monday smile. We thought it was pretty funny although Friday received a touch of snow during Winter Storm Fern (like most of the rest of the country). I’d probably opt for a different place to hitchhike to, like maybe Costa Rica. LOL

There was lots of options for watching all kinds of sports on Sunday. It was a good day. We loved the halftime show (even though we do not understand Spanish). It seemed to speak energy and love and think everyone can understand that and it made us all want to get up and dance around the house.

Oh, shucks…I forgot all about the puppy bowl:(
We used to watch it in years gone by…somehow I was busy with other stuff and forgot, plus we don’t hardly watch any TV anymore.
Florida got quite cold too, does anyone really want to go there right now? Their cold is still warmer than ours, though, LOL! We are hoping for above freezing temps later this week, Hooray!

Yes indeed, NO mosquitoes! Maybe the super cold temps will kill off a bunch of other nasty bugs, like ticks. We can only hope, as last summer was a boomer year for those evil little rascals.
Have a great week ahead, and stay warm!

You’re right, it even snowed a little bit in some parts of Florida. The cold has definitely been a deterrent for mosquitoes. Hopefully things will start to warm up soon in Michigan. 🤞🏻 Have a great week!

  8. I was thinking about the no mosquito benefit of this weather just last week! It was almost 70F and sunny today. Even nicer tomorrow before we again experience the polar plunge. And the dogs actually got a nice walk through the neighborhood today- without sweaters!!

  9. Santa and Clara as a tag team is adorable. As are ALL those puppies, who were moving the ball better than the Patriots did last night. Just saying. And on a fun note, my family adopted Penny, our Vizla, from North Shore all the way back in 1980.

  12. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.
    John W. Howell says:

We are in a period of above-average temps. Who could have predicted that? This may sound dumb, but when it was so cold here, I had a thought about no mosquitoes. I guess it is a way of finding a positive path through torment.

Not dumb at all…I’ve had the same thought though mosquitos aren’t anything like what you guys have in Texas (one small advantage to lack of humidity). We are 50% of where we should be on moisture right now. Scary to think where we’ll be in July and August.

      Have a great Monday, John!

That’s too funny. I had a cream colored one (i fact, I still do, I think…hard to remember where I’ve put stuff in the new house-guess I better check on that-I know there was a bunch of change in it!). Have a pawtastic Monday!

They were all so adorable. I watched the preview with my grandkids. Funny how we all have our favorite little fluff balls! Have a terrific Monday!

  14. We didn’t watch the game. We never watch the games anymore.

Love the funnies and can I come along?

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

I’m with you, Helen! The Puppy Bowl is always the best and I love how they’ve been able to get people to adopt special needs pets who often are overlooked at shelters and rescue. We hope you have a pawtastic Monday!

  17. Yeah what a snoozer of a Super Bowl. I had no skin the game other than my disdain for the Patriots. It’s been so warm out our way we are seeing mosquitoes and honey bees. I think it all ends today when we return to our regularly scheduled Winter.

Wishing you and Wilson a stretch of seven wonderful days!

You pretty much expressed my same view about the game. I had the family for dinner and with the grandbaby, it was more entertaining. Enjoyed the halftime pageantry with its rhythm, and found most of the ads uninspiring so the Puppy Bowl was a nice bright spot. It’s been warm and way too dry. We can only hope something in the form of moisture happens soon. Having a grass fire a few miles away was a bit unsettling.

Wishing you and the Golden Girls a wagnificent Monday and pawsome week!

  18. Lots of sporting events to watch on the weekend for sure and we watched a big variety and enjoyed it all. We’re not looking forward to the way too warm weather and all the mess it will create but we can’t change it so we deal with it. Have great week!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, we’re trying to deal with our own reality here. Lots of sporting stuff, a little fore everyone. it was a good day to see the grandbaby and entertain the family. Plus the food seemed pretty tasty too, so not all was lost. 😉 Have a super Monday.

Love the memes! CA is not so cold, but I have lots of family in frigid areas. We watched the All American Halftime Show. What a hoot! Never heard of the Puppy Bowl. that will be on my radar next year.

Thanks, Jacqui-glad you enjoyed today’s smiles. We’ve basically had no winter this year, certainly next to no snow and we’re concerned about the lack of moisture and feel badly for the folks on the eastern coast. They’ve been hammered especially lately. The Puppy Bowl is something we’ve watched nearly every year and is always broadcast before the Super Bowl. You may be able to see a replay on YouTube. It’s usually broadcast on Animal Planet or Discovery. Check it out-it’s great fun with a great way for folks to enjoy loads of adorable puppies and kittens. Happy Monday!

Those memes are too funny. It’s still bitterly cold here but looks like it will “warm up” starting tomorrow… of course said warming up comes with another dumping of the white stuff.
    Have a great day!

More snow? Argh. That crackling sound you hear is us in severe drought. Other than that recent cold spell, we haven’t had any winter and there was a nearby 130 acre vegetation fire Saturday with very windy conditions. Last I heard it was 80% contained as of yesterday but no update this morning. Feel free to send any excess snow our way, we can use it.

      Here’s to a Happy Monday!

Severe drought is no joke, either. How awful. It’s bad enough there are fires in the summer but man oh man. I wish I could send you enough to stamp out the possibililty of more fires!

Look for the good and we will find it.
