Monday Musings ~ March 9, 2026

It’s Monday again and we hope you had a fantastic weekend. The weather here was beyond gorgeous and most of last week’s snow has begun melting in earnest. Our temps will be bouncing up and down all week. In the low 70’sF (22C) followed by a day of high 50’sF (58C) all week long as we rush toward the official arrival of Spring in 10 days. Loads of birds that we hadn’t heard before seem to be extra happy if their chirping up a storm is any indication.

As I was looking for a smile to share today, I came across one that rather tickled me. In a world of helicopter parents, those of us of a particular age will no doubt be nodding their heads identifying with today’s smile.

Some days I wonder how I manage to make it through childhood so today’s smile especially cracked me up and I hope it sets the stage for you to enjoy a wonderful week for you and yours to enjoy a wonderful week full of good vibes and smiles. Let’s hear it for thriving and surviving this week. Happy Monday!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the smile. It was probably the last generation that didn’t require a participation trophy! Have a great week, Paul.

  1. Lulu: “Our Dada claims when he was a kid he used to ride his bike all over the neighborhood and disappear out into the woods all day! Can you imagine?”
Java Bean: “Ayyy, disappearing into the woods all day sounds good to me. Where do I sign up for that?”

    1. Our street was filled with lots of kids (enough to field two baseball teams easily) and we’d play street baseball, and other games all day long. I can’t remember being inside until dinner time. Those were the days for sure.

    1. Right! But good days nonetheless. And we never needed a participation trophy to get through them. Hope you had a pawsome Monday!

    1. Oy…as a kid, that had to be insult to injury! But even with corporal punishment, most of us turned out fairly well adjusted. Hope it’s been a good Monday for you.

    1. 😉 Moms back in the day didn’t mess around! And they sure as heck didn’t hand out participation trophies. Happy Monday, Terry.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. “Us survivors gotta” turned out pretty well and we didn’t have to have any participation trophies either. 😊

    1. Well, in our house it was the threat of corporal punishment with a wooden spoon that kept everyone in line. 😬 I guess mom’s back then were survivors too. Happy Monday.

        1. Hahaha. It only took once in our house and that was enough incentive for us to fly straight. 😂

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. Us survivors gotta stuck together! Happy Monday. 😊

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah we managed to enjoy childhood and not be so strange because we couldn’t cope with a world that didn’t cater to them. 😉 Hope it’s a terrific week!

    1. Those were the days, weren’t they, Dan? We sure enjoyed childhood and didn’t have all the pressures kids have now. I feel badly for kids growing up now. Here’s hoping it’s a fantastic Monday!

    1. They truly were the good old day. I’m so grateful I didn’t grow up in the age of cell phones, Instagram and influencers. It’s no wonder kids nowadays are so traumatized by everything. Here’s hoping today and this week are completely wonderful for you all. Happy Monday.

    1. Yes, we too learned about the rising gas prices though I suspect not nearly as much as you. Gas has gone up almost a dollar a gallon over the past 10-14 days. We hope flowers will begin to emerge soon. Have a great Monday.

  2. You are already in spring, we have winter still, but spring is near.
There really is no messing with us. We grew up playing outside, taking care of ourselves and and our friends, if we had problems we solved them, there was no therapists for us, and that was good, we know how think by ourselves. We learned how to cook, no fast food. Oh, there is so many things, that made us strong.

    1. Kiitos! We basically haven’t had much of a winter, certainly no snow so last week’s storm was most welcome. We have our paws crossed that March fulfills its usual pattern being the snowiest month of the year. Have a lovely Monday, Kristiina.

  3. That meme is so true. My husband and I often remark about how as GenXers we are the last of the “free range” kids.

    1. Which likely explains the lack of social skills by Gen Z’ers and why confidence has been replaced with arrogance. 😉 Happy Monday, Lisa.

  4. It’s amazing the 70 million of us Boomers still alive survived the perils now known to our GenZ and Millennial issues. What an amazing string of luck! And we never got participation badges for our generic efforts on the fields of competition accepting the fact that coming in second was the 2nd best loser. 🙃

We’re headed into Spring with Summer weather according to our local weather prognosticators. I’ll take it. If it’s gonna be dry it might as well be warm. Have a great week!

    1. Oh gosh, yes!! I didn’t even mention the participation badges that always cheesed me off. It’s no wonder kids of today have such emotional issues. If only they could have enjoyed a fun, worry free childhood perhaps today they wouldn’t be so wrapped up in their psyches. We hope this week treats you well with pleasant weather. Enjoy!

    1. I’m just grateful to not have had to endure cyber bullies and the like growing up! Have a super Monday, Amy.

    1. Plus I think we were a lot better at facing life’s inevitable challenges. We were comfortable playing outside without having someone hover over us and creative about entertaining ourselves. Happy Monday, Debra!

  5. Mom always tells Gramma she is lucky to be alive the way she tried to kill her as a child! The car seats hooked over the back of the seat were so bad, they are just plain funny. Moms uncle took her and three cousins riding down the highway in the back of his pick up truck for fun, no topper, no restraints. Mom says kids today are so wrapped in bubble wrap they practically suffocate. Those who survived growing up many years ago are much tougher and lucky if they survived. Have a great week!

    1. No kidding. Seat belts really didn’t come into existence until around 1968 I think and riding in the back of pickup was considered great fun, especially when we went around a corner and slide from one side to the other. I feel bad for today’s kids-they truly are wrapped in bubble wrap. Have a pawsome Monday!

  6. I was a country kid so I wasn’t in Girl Scouts or 4H or anything. No schedule except for school. Just went out and played with the neighborhood kids or read a book. How were we not bored? And why are we still alive?

    1. I’ve asked myself that same question a jillion times, Kate. Life as a kid was easy back then and we managed to entertain ourselves nicely. Have a lovely Monday.

  7. Love the graphic!! We have been having “false Spring” around here which is just a big tease. Cold temps return by end of this week. Still nice to see some buds on some of the brave trees – maybe Spring will cheer everyone up!

    Big Hugs, Pam (Teddy too)

    1. Spring is the anecdote to winter’s harshness. Here’s hoping the deep in temps isn’t too bad and no snow or ice make an appearance. Have a wonderful Monday!

  8. Spring is springing here too. We’re happy about that.

You made me laugh out loud. I was one of those kids too.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. Glad you liked today’s smile. I laughed out loud when I found it and then so many wonderful memories flooded into my brain. Being a kid ‘back then’ was great fun! Wilson and I send our best wishes for a ‘pawsome’ Monday!

    1. I totally agree. Plus they learn to enjoy a lot of simple fun instead of being entertained by a hand held device. Happy Monday.
