Today is a legal holiday in the U.S. Eighty nine years ago, Martin Luther King was born on this date and today we celebrate his life. To honor this legendary civil rights leader, here is a video of his “I Have a Dream” speech. Given last week’s repugnant comments that dominated the news, it seemed appropriate to revisit the dream, especially today.
Hope you had a great weekend. What’s on tap for the week?
Live, Love, Bark! ❤︎
I appreciate seeing a post paying homage to this incredible human. Now, more than ever, I think our society needs to incorporate his vision into our daily practices. Here is my tribute to MLK.

Thank you for swinging by the Ranch. Yes, MLK Day, Every Day. Love that sentiment.
Amen!

Thank you for posting this
Happy to share an amazing speech.
Happy MLK day. Thanks for sharing the video.
When I think there is no room to go any lower, I am surprised anew. Three more years! God please help us.
Let’s hope it’s far less not sure I could make it.
Oh, how I hope that his dream comes true. It is so very relevant today, especially given recent events.
Exactly. Now more than ever.
Thanks so much for posting MLK’s full speech. I don’t know if I’ve heard it in full before and it would probably take a few listenings to take it all in. I might’ve read it before and probably should do that again, as I can take more of it in, again it’s not the same without his voice.
I would like to extend his speech to include all peoples who are marginalised. Many people with disabilities are excluded and living in poverty and it would be my dream for us to have more understanding at the very least.
While I am writing this, Zac and Rosie are having a fight, which is interesting timing given that brotherly/sisterly love was at the root of everything MLK was fighting for. That said, they’re pups and they’re just playing.
I hope you have an insightful day.
Blessings,
Ro
MLK is the perfect example of how one person can indeed change the world.
Yes, it is very appropriate….thank you.
Certainly a day for reflection, especially today.
Happy MLK day to you too! I hope his dream comes true someday – that we can all be judged by what is on the inside and not the color of our skin. My plans for the week depend on the weather, but, will do some volunteering and at least one day of one of my part-time jobs. So, it’s a busy week for me, as they all seem to be lately.
I can’t help but think the ‘Dream’ is even more important in 2018. Hope your week is grand and the weather cooperates.
Yes. That dream is just as important today as it was in 1968! We may have snow tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get my volunteering in before it hits.
We were supposed to get snow today. Only a slight skiff but bitter cold (compared to yesterday’s near 60!).
Sounds like you are on a weather roller coaster about like ours. We had record lows two weeks ago, record highs last week, and now, near record lows again this week!
Yo-yo weather is rough.
Yes it is!
Our mom remembers the day he was assassinated and when it came on the TV. He was a great man at a critical time in our history! No plans so far!
Keep Calm & Bark On!

It was a sad day. 1968 was a turbulent year, a little like 2018.
Monika I often wonder what the world would have been like if MLK Jr was alive. I wanted him to become the President…even tho’ I live in Canada. I admired & respected him 150%. still get teary eyed when I listen to his “I have a Dream” speech…
May his memory be for a blessing <3

Many thanks from a southern ‘cousin’ who still believes his words have particular meaning this day and age. It still gives me chills whenever I hear it.
Fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing! xoxo
His speech is even more applicable today.
It was good to read the text of the speech online today. Based on that, I’d vote for him if he were running for anything now.
I think a lot of us would. 😊
So much to be ashamed about as an American these days…but always so proud of MLK and his enduring legacy.
It seems like there’s a groundswell to incorporate his message in daily life. More now than ever. Happy MLK Day.
Happy MLK Day…we should pay closer attention than ever to his words…and actions.
Yes I think they resonate even more today than 50 years ago. 😕
Word.
Thanks Monika for these thoughts and for posting this clip that will surely be watched by millions today. We need optimism and hope that we can one day live together on this planet together with love and respect for one another. There is no better place to begin than with MLK’s speech and dream.
Peace and love to all today and all days.
Peace and love right back at you, Mike and an extra ear scratch for my favorite two Golden Girls.
My peep actually shook hands with MLK-and Jackie Robinson also.
Outstanding! What a seminal moment meeting such legends.
I have a dream… it’s America at it’s best, accepting, strong, content, educated and healthy. Then I wake to the current situation and must hope things can recover. Americans and people are larger than one small minded man
Now more than ever, I hope MLK’s message is finding yet another loud voice and hopeful it will be shouted from sea to shining sea yet again and its message resonates in manifest ways.
No matter how often you hear it, this speech never gets old! He speaks the hearts of many!
His soaring rhetoric still gives me goosebumps. 😊
Happy MLK day. His work is far from done, it seems!
Most assuredly and think his work will be actively renewed.
MLK’s speech is one of the most important ever I think. He was killed for his believe in peace but his ideas will live for ever.
Hope springs eternal!
have a good MLK day and stay warm and comfy…
Thank you. Today shall definitely be a day of reflection. Stay warm today-we’re supposed to get some snow but we’ll see. Definitely getting cold-only in the 20’s all day.
