It’s hard to believe we finally reached Friday this week after everything that happened earlier but even harder to believe it’s the last Friday of the month. Where in the world did March go? We once again join our hosts, Rosy and her brothers from LLB in Our Backyard, for this week’s edition of the Nature Friday Blog Hop.
Mother Nature must have received the memo to stop messing around and start delivering some actual spring to us winter-weary folks. This week we’ve seen a bevy of spring bulbs blooming in bright pops of color in a landscape of brown, underscoring the hope that the things will start to warm up and start acting more normal.
Can you practically smell that luscious hyacinth scent?!
Not sure what this tall tree-like shrub is, but the droopy, whorled seed heads were intriguing. Note to self: keep an eye on this one as it begins to leaf out.
You know spring has definitely arrived when this ‘flower‘ shows up. The common dandelion is already out in full force. Although temps will be somewhat cool today and snow is forecast for the weekend, the past few days of 60’s and 70’s F have been most welcome. And that welcome seems to be on display on the lovely flowers we encountered around our neighborhood after being frequently buried in white stuff. Daffodils are shouting in bright yellow, deep purple hyacinths rich with that heavenly scent and brilliant red tulips have likewise been calling attention to their spring arrival. I noticed some leaf budding on lilac bushes. Wasn’t sure if I’d see spring with the seemingly endless cold winter, let alone what it might look like, but yesterday’s walk-about, reassured me that spring has definitely sprung in the 303.
Sam and Elsa also seem to be noticing fresh, new smells too. They walk with noses down to the ground, inhaling the scents of spring. That, or they’re reading a canine version of War and Peace. Sam rarely looks up, instead preferring to keep his nose close to the action. He seems to be a slow reader whereas Elsa’s nose gesticulates up and down, back and forth, getting the Cliff Notes version of olfactory clues. Then again, she could be ‘reading’ classified ads for dogs. Who can tell with these guys? All I can say with any certainty is they seem to be enjoying the landscape as much as me.
Whatever your plans include this weekend, we hope it has loads of fun and remarkable beauty.
Live, love, bark! 🐾
I have a green thumb when it comes to growing dandelions…
Funny how that works. Best. perennial. ever. 😆
We got snow yesterday and it canceled our grandsons baseball games. Thank goodness it did not stick around long
hugs
Hazel & Mabel
We got close to 4″ as well. It was gone by mid-afternoon. Spring storms are the best.
March flew by for me too. Beautiful flowers!
I’m in love with the Spring, and we’re so excited it’s finally here for more adventures! Thank you for sharing these gorgeous pics 🙂
Thanks; we’re big fans of spring too.

***purrsss*** BellaDharma
Thanks sweet kitty. We had a quick storm come through but it melted by mid-afternoon. Spring is being fickle.
Spring aka Swinter iss fickell as a pickell Miss Monika!!!! 😉
So jealous you have spring. We are getting a couple more inches of snow today.
If it makes you feel better we received nearly 3″ last night. It should be gone by this afternoon but sure is pretty this morning.
What beautiful flowers! You give us hope that we’ll see those here soon too. The temperatures have been warmer, and we’ve gotten rain showers instead of snow, so that’s progress!!
We received 2-3″ of white stuff last night so seeing blooming bulbs will be even more exceptional today before it melts.
Oh your flowers are just gorgeous. Most of our early Spring flowers are gone now. But our azaleas are wisteria are putting on a show for us right now. And we have lovely lovely SUNSHINE.
Thanks for the kind words. With 70+ degrees earlier this week, today’s spring snow of 3″ is actually quite beautiful. Luckily it’s not too cold and will probably be gone by this afternoon. Everything will have gotten a nice drink and be happy once again.
I told you March would go out like a dead lion or something like that, right? Xena
A lamb, Xena, a LAMB! Lucy
That can’t be right. Xena
But first, she’ll march in with a spot of snow as she did last night. It’s ok, spring storms are the best when it comes to white stuff. 😊
Not sure if my prior comment went through … but is that first flower a tulip? Tulips are my favorite and I have an affinity for blooms modified to be multi-color.
Yes, a two-toned tulip from my neighbor’s garden. It’s very striking which is why I had to include it. My tulips are up now but haven’t bloomed yet (I get less sun than he does so mine are late coming to the party). Happy weekend!
I don’t want to smell the flowers. Our garlic is growing.
Ooh, that’s a good smell too, Kismet. Plus it tastes great.
Wow…such vivid colors! So happy Spring is finally visiting your neck of the woods!
We’re super happy too!
Those are great flower pictures!!! I think my favorite is the red and yellow tulip. Glad to know spring has sprung in your neck of the woods too.
It’s from my neighbor’s garden. It is a pretty specimen, isn’t it? Have a great weekend.
It’s beautiful! Wishing you a wonderful weekend also!
It’s certainly a spot of most welcomed color this time of year. 👍🏻
We haven’t seen any tulips yet, but the daffies are up and a-bloom. Our hyacinths are working hard, but we think it will be a while yet before they blossom. All your photos and flowers are beautiful.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Thanks. They just popped up in the past couple of days.
Many thanks. It’s nice to see that spring finally sprung!
Nothing like a sparkling spring day filled with flowers. Enjoy your weekend!
Truer words were never spoken. Enjoy the weekend as well.
Thanks!
As usual, my “Like” button is not working. We have teeny-tiny white daffodils growing in Shadow’s favorite part of the yard! Wish I could take a pic to insert here! The squirrels (or other critters, maybe) ate all our lovely crocuses a few weeks ago.
Sounds like your tree rats are foodies and enjoy saffron on their dinners. Sorry your like button isn’t working. Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful flowers with us! 😊
Our great pleasure. Enjoy your weekend.
Love the flowers; hate the dandelions.
Yeah, unfortunately we gotta take the good with the bad with warmer weather. I just think of them as free perennials. 😈
What’s evil is when your neighbor has a lawn full of them and your lawn is pristine. Do not ask how I know this. Grrrrr.
Ugh. Sadly, there’s one in every neighborhood. 😕
boy you bloom EARLY there!!!
Hmm, that’s interesting, to my mind, I’m thinking even the early bloomers are late this year. LOL
So many plants in blossom, great photos!
Many thanks. I’m so happy they are finally starting to bloom. Have a great weekend!
Your spring blooms are so beautiful and mom can’t WAIT to shove her nose in a hyacinth flower!
Isn’t that smell just divine?
Lovely captures of spring’s infinite palette of colors!
Thanks, they tend to showcase themselves. 🌷
Beauty.
Beautiful pics…as always!
You’re too kind. Thank you.
We love your flowers but most of what we are finding is that every weed seed in the area has germinated and we have acres of weeds laughing at us. This seems to be the price for the end of the drought.
Weeds seem to love rainwater even more than flowers do!
Call me jealous. Over here, while snow piles have seriously dropped, especially for those of us on the “sunny side” of the street they are far from gone. I do, however see buds on m lilac so all is not lost. Not a crocus, not a dandelion, not a nothing has popped up. Yet. I have faith.
I just love the descriptions you give Sam and Elsa’s sniffing… reading! LOVE it!
😊 I just call ’em like I see ’em. Your springtime flowers will show up soon. Promise.
They will. Eventually.
Oh my, spring has sprung in your neck of the woods. Beautiful.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥
Indeed and not a day too soon either. Happy weekend.
oooh the tulips… they are so beautiful… and I forgot to buy some today… sigh… but at least I have the dog food LOL
Dog food is the most critical item in our pantry too. Here are some digital tulips for you 💐
Good article and nice blog …. Congratulations.
I invite you to see my artistic creations.
welcome
Thanks. I swing by your site often and love the artwork. Quite beautiful.
Thanks dear friend 🙂
Fantastic flowers! Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend,
Pit
Thanks, you have a great weekend too.
Will do: first bike ride of the year tomorrow!
Woohoo. Happy trails 🚵🏼♂️
Thanks! 🙂
