Today in the U.S. we are celebrating Martin Luther King day around the Ranch. A legal holiday, it was first celebrated in 1986, despite taking more than a decade before all 50 states adopted the holiday, it is marked every third Monday of January.
A soaring orator, Dr. King is known for many inspiring quotes. Here is one that seems even more appropriate in this day and age.
No celebration of the life of Martin Luther King is complete without revisiting the speech that defined his life. Only one of many transformative speeches, the “I Have A Dream” speech still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it.
We hope that whatever you do today, you contemplate the words of this remarkable man and strive to perform some act of kindness or service.
Live, love, bark! 🐾
We sure could use a man with that much love and wisdom to lead the country today.
Amen!
I can only imagine what MLK would think if he was still alive today. Things have just gotten worse – not better. He was a courageous man and told people the truth whether they wanted to hear it or not.
And all in a civilized way. Something that is sorely lacking this day and age.
Amen … and to think that there are those who fought against him having a federal holiday … and state and local governments that don’t honor his day. Well done, Monika!
Thanks, Frank. It was a long embarrassing process for that federal holiday to be created. Such indignity foisted on an icon who deserved better.
We are tipping our tails to Dr. King this week
We could definitely use some of his leadership right now.
So true! MLK was a fantastic orator and a leader that was ahead of his time. When we were in Memphis we went to the Lorraine Motel and the memorabilia of MLK. Such a waste.

Indeed his death was a tragic loss.
Never more important messages https://www.wortfm.org/martin-luther-king-jr-in-1967-the-three-evils-of-society/
Great post and I agree his “I have a Dream” speech still gives me goosebumps too!
We can use his dream more than ever today.
Wonderful tribute to a great leader, Monika.
We seem to be in short supply of leaders like Dr. King these days.
Sadly true
may it be a day about thinking about us and our society and the way we go…
The world needs to focus on the message of Dr. King more than ever.
FANTASTIC POST!
Thanks. Inspiration seems to be in short supply these days; I hope today is a welcome reminder to people across the country.
That first quote rings so very true. We need to love each other more instead of all the division.
Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. ♥
The division is tearing this country apart and continue to embrace Dr. King’s message of love and inclusion.
Thank you for sharing this!
It’s every bit as important today as it was back in 1963.
True
the first quote is especially meaningful in current times. Even brothers have rivalries and competition but under that is a sense that we all belong together.
Yes, it was meaningful then and even more so today. Our country’s poor fractured psyche needs this exact kind of inspiration.
Ooops! Sorry for sending two comments. I must have overlooked that the first one had appeared.
Not to worry. You can leave a comment any ole time, even more than once. 😁
Let’s have a dream together! We are in dire need of one, especially in our trying times.

I couldn’t agree more with that sentiment!
Has there ever been a more powerful speech? Thanks for sharing it so that I can rewatch it. It does give shivers…
I’d be hard pressed to know of another one as powerful and inspiring.
Seriously.
Lucy – We will all think of acts of kindness we could do today.
Xena – Mom could show us kindness with extra treats!
Amy – And you, Xena, could show us all kindness by refraining from barking at people, squirrels, birds and leaves blowing in the wind that you see out the front window today.
All very worthy efforts for today. Have a good one!
