Monday Musings ~ April 1, 2024

Welcome to Easter Monday, which also happens to be April Fool’s Day. Before we share today’s musing, I want to wish my baby sister an extra special and Happy Birthday. That’s no joke either. Now, on to today’s smile.

Wilson

It never fails…if there’s something on the stove, he take up position here. If something is needed from the fridge, he’s parked in front of the freezer. It’s no wonder I’m not an especially good cook. There’s clearly a ‘slight’ design flaw to working with a sous chef in a galley kitchen. And in my case, the sous chef is called Wilson. No wonder things are either over or under cooked. Maybe I should just go with boxed cereal for meals like I did in college?

May all your recipes be Top Chef quality today and all season long. Hopefully he won’t lay in front of the pantry so I can grab the spices needed for that pot of chili simmering on the stove top. Happy Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Happy belated birthday to your sister! Hope she had a good one! I bet a lot of people didn’t believe her when she would tell them her birthday. LOL! Did you ever put trick candles on her cake? The kind that you blow out and they light up again.
Haha, on Wilson! He pretty much takes up the whole floor!
Sorry about being slow getting to your posts. This week has been rather crazy with me not feeling the best, but I will be Ok. 🙂 Hope you all are having a Pawsome weekend!

    1. Thanks. Yes, she had a wonderful birthday and because she’s such a sweet person, we never thought of doing anything mean on her special day. The day she was born also happened to be Easter. Yes, Wils manages to take up so much real estate in a kitchen the size of a nickel-which makes life v-e-r-y interesting. 😂

Sorry you haven’t been up to snuff. Feel better soon. 💙

      1. Aww! You all are kind. I am glad she had a wonderful bday.
My daughter’s bday sometimes lands on Easter. 🙂

Thanks for the well wishes! 💕

  2. Peachy is doing that too, Wilson…always helping out in the kitchen…MOL…🎉Happy Birthday to your baby sister🎉Double Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend to you all of you🐾😽💞

    1. Thanks for the birthday wishes; I think it’s safe to say she was most touched by all the well wishes. Gotta love those kitchen helpers, right? 🙂

  3. Lulu: “That’s some top notch helping, Wilson! Sort of like how the cats do it when they climb on top of the clean laundry!”
Java Bean: “Ayyy, did you ever score something good by having your Mama trip over you while carrying food?”

    1. He is extremely proficient with blocking. Maybe he’s an engineer at heart since his ‘help’ in the kitchen is a bit limited, other than cleanup. 😉

    1. They can be at the other end of the house but if they hear a cheese package rustle, the will bee-line it to the kitchen. Every time!

    1. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. That stove has baked like a boss over the years! Not fancy but it’s gotten the job done.

      1. I wish I could say the same for my stove…it’s been a real pain. But now that it’s just me, I hardly ever use it any more. That’s what toaster/broiler ovens, air fryers, and electric grill/griddles are for. 😁

        1. Sorry to hear that. That Kenmore stove is over 22 years old and works like a champ. No complaints from me.

          1. Interesting that yours is a Kenmore; mine’s a GE…guess GE makes Kenmore products as well as the garbage produced for Frigidaire (my current fridge is what prompts my opinion of that company, and the store I bought it from). Oh well. Maybe now, with Sam’s demons gone, both appliances will start performing the way they should have from the start. Wishful thinking.

  4. My dogs also come to the kitchen when I cook. They are waiting for their favorite word – “oops!” Then they scramble to scarf down whatever food I dropped!

    1. Wilson has unbelievable hearing and knows whenever I open the cabinet where the treats live. He always looks expectantly at it before he parks in front of the appliance I need to get into. 🙄

      1. Ha! That’s Jack and Wednesday when I get up in the morning. It doesn’t matter what time. Four? They’re ready. Six? Yep. They know!

        Wilson is the best.

PS- Why I called him Norman, I have no idea. LOL

        1. Not to worry; I often call him Norman myself. 😉 The original Big Guy remains large in our minds and heart.

Funny but I never think of kitties are chow-hounds. Hmm, that’s wrong-what’s the equivilent for cats? 🙃

          1. Haha! He’s such the gentleman, he doesn’t even mind it I bet.

            Yes, yes he does.

Yanno, I’ve not a clue. I call him Buddha once in a while.

    1. Thank you, Thomas. Your kind wishes have been gratefully enjoyed and appreciated.

  5. Happy Monday and happy birthday to your young sister too! 🎉

    1. Aww, thanks for the kind birthday wishes. Hope your Monday has been ‘pawtastic.’

  6. Happy Birthday to your young sister. We have a friend here that was also born on 1st April. Not enough padding on the floor for Benji – he likes his beds, blankets and comfort. He has beds throughout the house – although now that I think of it – there is not one in the kitchen :o)

    1. I know what you mean about beds being scattered throughout the house. Two large ones in the studio, 4 in the living room and two in the bedroom. Funny thing is with all those beds, somebody is invariably sprawled out on the hardwood floor. LOL Thanks for the birthday wishes; my sister has been blushing with all the good wishes.

    2. Thanks, John. I’ve been seeing a number of folks whose birthday is today which I think is very cool. My mom’s birthday was Christmas Day. We celebrated it more than Christmas. Greetings to Annabell and lots of ear scritches to the Benji lad.

    1. Thanks. I’m not convinced this dog has a refined palate-he ate a neck pad that was filled with buckwheat and has been pooping seeds for a few days. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Crazy dog!

    1. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Wilson always manages to be under foot, no matter what. I think he’s a mama’s boy. 😁

  7. Happy birthday to your baby sister!
And Wilson is just trying to help. You know, in case you drop something edible…
    Happy Monday to you!

    1. Yeah, I should have named him Hoover! And thanks for the birthday wishes. 💙

  8. Wilson’s positioning is his way of saying “FOOD SERVICE!!!!”…….you can’t hardly ignore him when he’s right in the middle of the floor either! Happy Birthday to your sister!

    Hugs, Pam

  9. ♪♫Happy Birthday to you,♪♫

Wilson is most handsome and very helpful. He’s waiting for you to drop something on the floor. That’s what he’s waiting for.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Scritches to the pups and a hug to you. ♥

    1. Aww, you’re too sweet, Sandee. I’ll be sure to pass along your lovely wishes.

Yes, Wilson is quite the opportunistic! Happy Monday.

  10. That is a small kitchen for a big guy to hang out in. Perhaps you should build a large kitchen with a small home attached??? Hope you had a nice Easter.

    1. It’s very small 1950’s vintage house with lots of character but the kitchen is woefully small and it’s also dog-legged which makes it even harder to avoid him one way or another. Easter was a nice quiet affair-just the way we like our holidays.

  11. My cats dance around my legs when they are hungry. This morning I was trying to walk with their food to their eating area. I stepped on Gus’ paw which sent Sasha screaming, tripped me up and I dumped their food on the floor. Gaad! I’m going to have goldfish in my next life!

    1. I feel your pain…since bringing home this land mass, I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve spilled something on the floor and/or obtained a bruise from avoiding a crash. I hear hamsters are less trouble. 😉

    1. I have a sliding door but couldn’t stand the scratching on it! I think Xena may be right on this one.

  12. My baby sister’s birthday too!
Zoe is also helping to manage things in the kitchen by strategically positioning herself beneath the chopping block. Or the stove. Or the fridge. Where ever there might be food. But I thought that was a corgi thing…

    1. What a coincidence! Happy birthday to your sister. I think he knows he’s in the way and just doesn’t care. That could definitely be a herding dog thing now that I think about it! Normal dogs want to avoid having their clumsy owners step or trip on them

  13. Happy birthday to your sister. And Helen. Being in the kitchen with Bella is dangerous. All of her 85 pounds bangs into anything in her way to a morsel dropped.

    1. Hi Paulette…yes, funny how a large dog lazing about can move at the speed of light when a nibble falls on the floor. Woe the upright who thinks they can get out of the way in time before crashing or bumping into something. My bruises have bruises since bringing Wilson home. LOL Happy Monday and thanks for the birthday wishes.

        1. Whelp…you’ve got multiples taking up real estate. I guess I shouldn’t complain. 🙃

  14. A very happy birthday wish for your baby sister…and Sous Chef Wilson certainly knows the value of always being on time for his “work.” Happy Monday!

    1. The dog has some kind of radar…always parking his big self in front of whatever appliance I need to access. It’s uncanny. Have a great Monday, Bruce.

  15. My birthday today too….I blame mother!
Wilson has it sussed…..whatever is happening which is related to food, he has it covered.

    1. When it comes to food, this dog is on it.

Wow, that’s awesome! The year my sister was born it was also Easter Sunday. Hope your day is full of good cheer, lots of smiles and maybe a nice gin or two. 🍸 Happy Birthday, Helen.
