Happy Monday! Today we’re going to offer not one, but a trio of smiles in honor of Halloween. The weather could possibly impact the number of trick-or-treaters who will drop by the Ranch as the first hard frost has been forecasted along with perhaps a spot of actual moisture. We’re not sure how many will actually ring the doorbell since the local merchants in the neighborhood offered daylight parades with kid activities over the weekend. There were loads of costumed pets and kids walking around neighborhoods.
Smile #1

Smile #2
I think everyone who’s ever tried to fold a fitted sheet can relate to this smile.
Smile #3
My fluffy (e)motion detector is off to spread some joy at Lutheran today and tomorrow. While we barely survived the bath (I think the walls are still recovering from all the water), I’m hoping it hasn’t impacted Wilson’s attitude about bringing joy to folks. I’m clearly gonna have to devise a better strategy getting him ready. My back won’t survive any more ‘steer wrestling’ episodes. Let’s just hope the high value treats will provide some amnesia and he focuses on seeing his friends swoon over him, especially in the emergency department. He’s a big hit there among the staff. Wish us luck that wiggly bum goes into overdrive.
Wishing you a terrific Monday!
Live, love, bark! 🐾
🙈😹
Such grate comickss Miss Monika an Elsa an Wilson!! BellaSita sayss #2 iss her fave! You shuud see her try to foled a fitted sheet~~it iss heelareeus!! Mee thinkss #1 iss so funny!
TREET!!! Mew mew mew…. BellaDharma an **giggellss** BellaSita Mum
We’ve all been there with those evil, fitted sheets. 🤣
I’ve seen the second one before and it is so true. I’ve watched videos and gotten no where. I try to do better than bunching up the fitted sheet in a drawer, but not by much!
Folding fitted sheets can be a nightmare. It’s always better to take one’s time otherwise you end up with a wadded up pile in the linen closet. 🤣 Once I realized there are labels, I use it as my North Star folding one end into the other. It usually goes better then.
So we are actually predicted to have the warmest Halloween on record….it might be in the 80s here! But even so, I’m not sure we will get many trick or treaters as our town did “trunk or treat” events this past weekend. (We posted about it yesterday). We have candy, just in case the kiddos show up!
Shoot, I’ve been missing your posts (not sure why, but went back and looked at a few just now). Blogger doesn’t seem to like me-have this problem with a few other Blogger posts. We just missed a frost warning this morning but it likely will hit overnight. We’re hoping for a little moisture with the cold but it’ll be back in the 70’s by the weekend.
Happy Tuesday ❤️
LOL at the comics, all good ones! Love the emotion detector!
Here’s hoping you get some fun trick and treaters at your door. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the comics. We’re actually hoping no trick or treaters show up. It’s been a busy week doing the emotion detection thing and we’re both pretty tuckered out. 💤💤
We had to ignore Halloween when we had Maddie. She could not take the stress, and we could not take the noise/panting. I hope Wilson had a good day making others’ days better.
Thanks, Dan. He did well and brought a lot of joyful destressing to busy emergency department nurses. We are not fans of Halloween and feel like it’s July 4th evil cousin.
Chaplin: “Ever since the days of Dennis, our Mama and Dada have done Halloween on the honor system, where they put out a box of candy with a note to take some. And every year except one, they have had candy left at the end of the night, so I guess it works pretty well.”
Java Bean: “We don’t mind not having monsters at the door all evening, that’s for sure!”
Whoa…that reaffirms our faith in humans.
all so funny but the treat expectation explains a lot of barking
Halloween is a little like July 4th by getting the dogs all wound up. It’s one of those holidays I could do without.
Love the trifecta you supplied this Monday Monika.
So glad you enjoyed today’s multi-smiles. Have a terrific week, Marc.
You as well mama
Good chuckles to start the week heading into Halloween …. and cheers to Wilson’s good work. Have a good week.
Many thanks, Frank. We hope your week is totally ‘pawsome.’
LOL they were all funny but the first says it all about Halloween. It is really messed up for dogs. Well, most of the time. We took our late Leonberger dog trick or treating and he loved that.
You’re so correct, Thomas. They don’t comprehend why someone dressed in a costume and wearing a mask is ringing the doorbell. In fact, neither do I, come to think of it! I’ll bet your big guy enjoyed making people happy. And a treat or two probably made it easy for him. Happy Monday.
That last one really hits the mark! How do they read us so well?
I think God made them really perceptive because we’re merely human. 💙
I’ll bet Wilson loves the work at the hospital. I can identify with bath time. Of course ours are so much smaller.
He’s akin to a bucking bronco and slippery surfaces don’t make it any easier on him or me! He sure brought a lot of joy to the folks in the emergency department today.
That sounds great.
Smile #1: Wow. Now I know what my dogs are all thinking on Halloween evening!! Thanks!
Smile #2: I believe it. I still have trouble folding them, and often just treat them like a messy flat sheet, LOL!
Smile #3: Our pups are also both motion and emotion detectors. What would life be without a dog?
Re: Baths. Have you ever considered taking Wilson (shhhh, don’t let him know I suggested this) to one of those self-wash places? The way it’s set up looks like it would be much easier than the tub or home shower.
Have a happy Halloween, and please don’t eat all the candy, LOL!
That’s where I go. There’s a cute pet shop nearby that has fantabulous treats, accessories and amazing walk in tubs with all the trimmings but he wanted no part of getting into the tub this time. And when he makes up his mind, he becomes total dead weight. It’s the first time I’ve used the dryer and he did better than I expected but my shoulders and back feel like sprung rubber bands today. 😉
We plan to avoid all the candy. Notice I say ‘plan.’ 🤣 Happy Monday.
That was funny, maybe the doggies have to dress up for Helloween and go from door to door, we’re sure they’ll get a treat too. We’re sure your bum is getting in overdrive, Wilson and we can already picture it😹Double Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead to all of you🐾😽💞
They did at the dog parade yesterday. Wilson thought he should get a treat just for being himself. LOL Happy Monday.
Oh my! The ‘toons are all adorbs but that last one tugged my heartstrings. They show us that love and it doesn’t matter WHAT else they’ve been up to! LOL I’m sure Wilson will have everyone falling in love all over again – have fun.
Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too)
Nothing better than having an (e)motion detector in the house. Talk about being blessed! Wilson made new friends in the emergency department. He now has a ever growing harem of nurses. LOL
Love the cartoons! Folding a fitted sheet is truly aggravating; but I found that if I tuck the corners into each other – first the long side and then the shortened side – I can then fold them into a more manageable rectangle which can then be folded in half or thirds. It’s not as neat as a flat sheet, but at least it’s folded. It takes patience at times – which I’ve been lacking lately – but it does the job.
As to bath time – at least you managed to give Wilson a bath! The Z Kids refuse to even get in the tub for me. Even sweet, calmer Zen fought me tooth-and-nail until I finally just gave up and found a groomer. My back and knees can’t handle 140+ pounds (between the 2 kids) of resistance.
Glad you liked today’s smiles. My bed is queen sized and they always have a label on one end which I think is either the top or bottom (I rotate the sheets to keep their wear somewhat the same). If those labels were missing I’d probably hurt someone trying to figure out which end was which.
I hear ya on trying to bath the dog at home. I did it once and thought I’d end up with a hernia trying to keep in the tub. At my age, I’m losing muscle mass too quickly to fight the bucking bronco he turned into. Even the walk in tub at the self dog wash was a challenge. I may need to just bite the bullet and have the groomer do all his baths in the future. I’m too old to try and wrangle.
Yes, I am smiling now, the second picture is so true. You and Wilson wrestling, I can imagine that, by the bath tub, made me smile, you must be a very strong lady.
Strong and stubborn apparently. LOL
Yes, just like Wilson.
Yup. Hahahahaha!
I love them all. You made me laugh out loud more than once.
I linked this post to Awww Mondays.
Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Scritches to the pups and a big hug to you. ♥
So glad you enjoyed today’s smiles. As always, thanks for the link up. You’re the best, Sandee. Happy Monday. Wilson sends bum wiggles of joy.
Bathing any pet can be an experience. With cats, they try to climb on you and yell all the time. By the time it’s over, I am nuts and all wet. Fortunately cats don’t need baths unless they get into something or have an accident.
I don’t think I’d make a very good cat owner. 😉
Sometimes I wonder if I am!
Oh Kate, you’re the best. The kitties are lucky to have you.
Oh Sheets, that is so so purrfect! BOO!
Glad you enjoyed that one! Happy Monday.
Good luck at Lutheran! Maybe Wilson would like a visit with a mobile groomer?!
We have a groomer who specializes in sheepdogs but she’s up in Broomfield. I’m not sure if a mobile groomer has a big enough truck for the likes of Wilson-he’s pretty big. I may need to have my groomer do bath him every month and just do the grooming every other month if he doesn’t get better. I left the self dog wash drenched from head to toe, even with a waterproof apron! LOL
Those are so good and that last one is special!
Thanks, Terry. Always happy to share the big furry lummox with others at hospital. He’s becoming very popular, much like Norman was.
Wonderful smiles. I’m so glad Gracie doesn’t need to be bathed before any of her visits, though at 14 pounds she’s not that difficult. When we had ringworm in the house this last summer and had to wash all the dogs with anti-fungal shampoo I was surprised how well all three did. Our backs were another story! My husband, surprisingly, is good at fitted sheet…me, just toss em in the closet.
Baths are a requirement whenever we visit the hospital. Sigh. None of my therapy dogs ever enjoyed their baths but none of them reacted as adversely as Wilson does. At 80+ lbs. that’s a lot of adversity! Have a great week.
Yeah, 80 pounds of “no way” is a lot to manage! You’ll get a giggle out of what happen to me this morning. Someone at the grocery store parking lot saw my pet therapy sticker on my car, an elderly gentleman, and wanted to know what I’d recommend to help his 2 year old newfoundland with diarrhea. When I said I wasn’t a vet, he insisted I was in the pet business, and what would I do. I repeated that I would call my vet. Took him while to understand that pet therapy is visiting, and not a medical position. But even if I had been a vet, I would still have told him to call his vet!
When he has a mind, he’s dead weight. That ‘vet story’ is pretty funny. People do that all the time on NextDoor despite numerous admonitions to contact their vet. Makes you wonder why they can’t seem to listen. 😉
Re the vet stuff – I think they’re trying to save money, but if you’ve got a pet, you need to be willing to spend a little money, especially for easy things like diarrhea. An 80-year-old guy with a 150 lb 2 year old Newfie…not a good choice for someone that (nearly our) age. An a Newfie with diarrhea….so not fun.
We’re all trying to save money but like you said, owning a dog has certain responsibilities, including responsible healthcare. They depend on us to keep them safe and healthy. Diarrhea can have many causes and needs to be properly dealt with so they don’t get dehydrated and worse.
Your header is a lot nicer than the stuff you’ve been showing us in peoples’ gardens….
As to bathing dogs…it is the bending that gets me, knees and back protest nearly as much as the dogs.
Fitted sheets…I saw a cartoon where a woman is found to be a witch because she can fold a fitted sheet…about right!
Thanks, Helen. People in our neighborhood are just gah-gah with all their Halloween decorations. I just don’t get it. I mean the one off pumpkin is fine but dozens of skellies just can’t wrap my head around that.
I’m with you, my back aches for hours bending over. I feel like I need 15 hands to hold him down, wash the fur, and keep us both safe.
As for fitted sheets, they are a lot like puzzles but I haven’t seen any proof being able to solew makes one any smarter or helps improve visual-spatial reasoning, short-term memory, or problem-solving skills as well as combating cognitive decline. I can do them but dang if I’m not a crabbish wench for a while after putting them away. Happy Monday.
Excellent funnies and what a bummer the house pony doesn’t like baths! Zeke wasn’t particularly fond and Mick was great at washing him outside, when weather permitted.
We have a pet store chain that offers the use of their pet bathing station. It has a high and pretty deep tub so once the beastie is in, you don’t have to bend over and wrestle so much. And the mess is contained in THEIR store 😉
As for fitted sheets, I’m one of those annoying ones, who actually can fold ’em 😉
Getting him in the bath station isn’t even easy. I may need to bring a T-Bone steak to lure him in the next time.
Folding fitted sheets seems like punishment-good on you that you are so talented (though I’m not surprised). I’m anal enough to be able do it but boy it can be a cluster and takes some deliberate thinking. I’ve learned those tags are good for something and use them as a compass for finding the long edge but it still takes concentration and time. Happy Monday!
No, I bet it’s not. Big galoot!
I’m not saying they’re perfectly folded, mind you. You know how I solve that problem? I buy only striped sheets!! 🤣
Happy Monday to you!
Problem solved on the sheets conundrum! I knew you weren’t just a pretty face. 😁
He he he! I have a king-sized bed so it’s rather annoying. Does the wide part go width or length? I do believe the bed is wider than it is long. But the difference is just enough to make you try both! Screw dat. Stripes, it is!
I use the labels to get oriented. It’s easier that way 😉
Where are the labels supposed to go? Might help me in the future (I like to think bottom, right?) 😀
On my queen sized sheets, the labels are at the top or bottom. 😉
Gotcha
👍🏻
Years ago, our vet recommended washing our dogs in the shower. His poodles showered with him! We bought a new shower nozzle with a detachable hand-held sprayer, and I sit on the built-in seat in our shower to wash the big dogs. It confines the spray and the dog! I don’t shower with them, but it all works out pretty well. Good luck with your house ponies!
My shower is too small to fit him and me at the same time so I take him on in the tub once I’ve calmed down the whirling dervish and just pray he doesn’t try to escape as I let my guard down. I’m leaning towards letting the groomer bath him and then do a full groom every other month. I’m too old to try to be a rodeo queen. 😁
Great funnies! Mom hates giving us a bath, so it doesn’t happen often. It makes such a huge mess as we are not fans of baths either.
Glad we were able to give your mom a smile to begin the week. Dogs and baths are not for the faint of heart. Happy Monday.
Good luck! Steer wrestling sounds familiar. I have one dirty dog here and decided to take him to pet supplies groomers and let them deal with it, although tomorrow is supposed to be warm so i could potentially do it outside… hmm
I’ve never had a dog react so acutely to a bath. They never like it but sheesh, that whole bucking bronco/crazed steer fury imitation is down right scary! Here’s hoping a clean Chester gets loads of “good boy” cheers. Happy Monday.
we agree at the ghost theory… I feel the same about folding this stuff… LOL
There’s never been a hard household chore to try to figure out. I’m going to go out on a limb and say most linen closets have nicely folded pillowcases and top sheets and a big wadded up mess…aka fitted sheet. Happy Monday!
They’re good for a laugh though, and we need that.
