Monday Musings ~ October 13, 2025

Happy Monday. Despite the recent executive order to the contrary, today is Indigenous People’s Day in the U. S. (aka Columbus Day). In his order, the president praised the 15th-century explorer as “the original American hero” and “a giant of Western civilization” which seems ironic in this day and age, given that Columbus was the first immigrant to reach the Americas.

But because it’s Monday, we need to start the week out with a smile. Today that means we’re joining the live coverage with ‘Louie’ as he covers a very important news story.

Monday smile

One thing I’ve learned about Wilson, is that he apparently can count and has seemingly mastered fractions as well. All of which means that dividing treats is forbidden around the Ranch. I no longer even try to pull any treat division like that here and have assured the House Pony there will be no ‘crime scenes’ around the Ranch about that.

We hope the news in your neck of the woods involves only whole portions. Make it a pawsome Monday and an even better week.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Haha, poor Wilson! Trying to sneak a half-treat is a lost cause. My dog has me trained – I swear she has a built-in calorie counter and demands the *exact* same amount whether its one big treat or four tiny ones. Shes a smarter pup than most people I know! 😹😂 Happy Monday from us too!act 2 video generator

  2. Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Tons of scritches an a treat to Wilson and a big hug to you. ♥

  3. Thanks for the laugh!
With all the insanity from you-know-who we need all the laughter we can get.
Wilson is one smart cookie 😉
Wish he could run for President 😊

  4. Java Bean: “Ayyy, humans are always trying to put one over on each other, so I guess it’s not surprising they would try to put one over on us, too. Still a sad state of affairs though!”

    1. Glad you enjoyed this week’s funny. I can always see the thought bubble over Wilson’s hewad when he thinks he’s been shortchanged on treats. LOL Hope you have a great week!

  5. It’s no longer Monday but I am retroactively beginning my week with a deserving chuckle. Portions of treats is greatly frowned on by the Red Girls at The Golden K. Koda is not only good at math and fractions but quantum physics too. The thought of her in a lab is scary! 🙃. Have a great week at The Ranch. We’re getting a pretty early and productive storm out here in Northern California. 🌨️

    1. Wilson would wholeheartedly agree with the Golden Girls. Who knew dogs were such impressive mathematicians? Glad you got a chuckle from our musing.

Ooh, I’m hoping your storm manages to reach us here with plenty of moisture…it’s getting close to Halloween and we almost always get a storm just in time for trick-r-treaters. It almost never fails. Have a great week, Mike and give the girls a nice ear rub from me.

    1. Yes, pet tummies are as fine tuned as any super computer! We hope you have a pawtastic week.

  6. Our last dog came to understand that she would get the last bite of my toast or my (plain) cookie. However, if I cut the piece of toast in half, she expected the last bite of each piece. If my cookie happened to be a pizzelle, she knew exactly how many last bites there should be.

    1. Dogs are quite clever when it comes to treats and a whole lot smarter than we think. 😆 Wishing you a terrific Monday and hope it’s not too cold/wet.

  7. Hahaha. With the resident cat, she feels that she is being short-changed that I have started giving her less treats (they are so very small, but still). She looks at me with disgust.

    1. Snorf…I know it’s wrong butI can’t help picturing ‘that’ look in my mind on a cat’s face. Priceless! Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Monday!

    1. Hahaha…sometimes I wish Wilson couldn’t count. Here’shoping you have a great Monday.

  8. We hardly ever get treats for just because…most are actually supplements, but don’t tell them that! BOL! Of course they are always given whole… We have this little ritual every night, a handful of said ‘treats’ and then a dental chewy.
They do get real treats a few times a week, esp if they come when I call them in from outside with my doggy whistle. That sound to them, means come ASAP, and they always get a treat for that!
Not really a treat, but if I open a container of say, yogurt or similar, they are always there to have a lick.

    1. Sometimes us mums can be a teensy bit devious like that. 😆 Here’s hoping it’s a great Monday for you.

  9. Well I have to admit my treats are teeny tiny ANYWAY so “undivid-able” AND I’m the only one here to eat them so I’m immune from the inexcusable incident depicted in the cartoon! Happy Monday!

    Hugs and Treats, Teddy

    1. Wilson: I’m not sure what’s worse-trying to break treats in half or dispensing those teeny tiny micro-sized treats. Sounds like you’re getting the short end of the stick, Teddy. LOL Hope you have a furbulous Monday.

    1. You’re so right. Crazy nonsense on a daily basis.

As for halving treats…Wilson has started to catch on and makes sure I give both halfs, no exception! 🤣 Here’s hoping you have a pawesome Monday.

  10. I don’t recall any need for CSIs to visit our house, as Mrs. B and I never try to break a treat in half and pass it off as a whole one. One half is one half. We are 100% Team 100%. Now Wilson…there’s a candidate for being a CSI. It sounds like he has a natural talent for getting to the bottom of it all.

    1. Thanks, Bruce. Nothing gets by the big guy when it comes to food. Nothing! Happy Monday.

    1. Oops, that’s happens too often. I try to limit treats for Wilson and tend to use tiny training treats so he’s not consuming too many calories. Now if only someone would do that for me! LOL Happy Monday.

  11. Here, 3 little treats on one side of the little kitchen. Then a short walk to find 3 little treats on t’other side. Surely there’d be H… to pay if I were to forget those 3 on t’other side sometime … she would know!

    1. Indeed. Pets have an amazing ability to become Nobel prize mathematicians when it comes to treats! Happy Monday, Ann and June.

  12. The horror. I can see why the press showed up. You made me laugh out loud. We don’t do this here and never will.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Big hug to mom and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. Thanks Sandee. Wilson can become quite the pest if he thinks there are any fractional treats in a pocket. And he is like an elephant with a long memory! Happy Monday dear Sandee.

  13. Not only can they count but they can tell time too. And there is hell to pay if I forget the treat after evening walks, not that they will let me forget anyway!

    1. I know exactly what that looks like. The disappointment in soul crushing. Happy Monday, Helen. Ear scritches for all Thugs.

    1. Thanks, Weims. Yes, halfsies are not appreciated around the Ranch. Have a wagnificent Monday.

  14. The look of distain is usually enough to make upright fly straight, doesn’t it? Happy Monday, Carole!

  15. Wilson, know…my brother in fur…that if Mom tried that with ME, I have effective ways to punish her! Sniffing and walking away is the first and usually all that is needed.

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but please no growling.
