Monday Musings ~ January 26, 2026

Welcome to Snowmageddon…as if Monday wasn’t bad enough to deal with. We are hoping everyone is staying safe and cozy. Wilson thought everyone deserved a couple of smiles today with a minor edit to the first one.

Monday-winterOn the plus side, once you finally defrost, there’s good news:

As expected, not a huge amount of snow arrived; my neighbor and I have managed to stay ahead of any accumulation on the sidewalks but today with clear skies, we are experiencing near blizzard-like winds blowing the snow over shoveled walks. Today’s high is expected to hit 41F (5C) which will seem like a heatwave. Please stay safe and warm. We hope all those affected with power outages will have their power restored soon. Happy Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

So happy the storm wasn’t so bad there! Here either…we did get another fresh foot on top of the already existing foot of snow, but no ice…just icy cold temps! Brrrr….Negatives to 3℉…for about another week, and then it should be going back up to the 20s, which will indeed feel like a heatwave! Stay warm!

PS – BOL – Frosty texting….and yes, that is exactly what parking lots look like!!! It’s like snow makes folks forget how to park.

Yikes-you folks on the east coast measured Storm Fern in feet-we measured it in little tiny inches! I could have done without the cold though. We got down to zero and below most nights. Today is nice and sunny-in the mid-40s. Yay! For January, that’s hard to beat.

Glad you liked the smiles. They made me laugh out loud. Stay cozy and safe, Dorothy.

  2. I’m glad you didn’t get buried with too much snow. We didn’t either. Only 7 inches and very thankful that we didn’t have trouble with power.
Thanks for Wednesday’s laughs! I can build that kind of snowman! And YES on the parking lots! 🤣
41 degrees is definitely a heat wave. It’s in the teens and single digits here all week. Meanwhile, in the high 70’s in Uruguay!

We got only about 3-4 inches, and it was pretty chilly! Glad you enjoyed the chuckles. We’re supposed to reach 50 today but it’s cloudy and feeling chilly.

Glad you enjoyed the smiles. We just had a little snow but like you, it was pretty chilly. Much nicer yesterday and today-in the mid-40’s. I’ll take that anytime in January. Stay safe and warm and have a great week.

  4. I love the chair snowman. What a great idea! And I understand when you can’t see the parking lines, you just have to guess, LOL! We’ve been spared most of it. Only 9F this morning, so I’m dawdling (reading your post, sipping hot chocolate, staring into space) to avoid going out in it to work. Xena has taught Chia to try to hide when she sees the sweaters come out so they can go out and go potty. Why do they only learn the bad things from each other?

LOL…their dogs and dogs are opportunistic. Wilson got groomed yesterday and when we go on walks he’ll be bundled up but for potty breaks, it’s a quick dash out and back. No point encouraging an extended visit. 😉 Take good care and stay warm.

That snowman is risking his life…sooner or later, LOL!
There is a red car all blocked in; that parking lot is a true disaster in the making, along with parking lot rage!
We had about three inches of new snow…on top of all the other snow that was already there, it’s over the top of my boots! A kind neighbor plowed out the front of our driveway while I was at work last evening. We have more snow predicted for almost everyday this week. Good thing I have no obligations other than to refill the fridge. But all of the roads were horrendous because in these frigid temps the slat doesn’t work. I was going 30 in a 55 zone…and hoping for the best. Today’s high was 10…it’s 2 right now and going d o w n…and the wind chills are expected to be anywhere from -10 to -20. Brrr!
I dug out a few areas for easier doggy business. Then later I can hunt for ‘poopsicles’!

  8. Frosty deserves to kick his feet up and chillax. Just so long as the rays ain’t too strong, that is. As for the parking lot . . . my God is this ever the truth!

Snow on Sunday, was bad but not -geddon in nature. All dug out now and more snow in the forecast for this weekend, not sure about that yet. We’ll see!

    Happy Monday

Frosty is looking a bit pale to me. LOL

Parking in wintertime can be a real crap shoot. Our alleyway was closed for a couple of days and I was ever so grateful to be able to put the car back in the garage after my commitments. You never know where people are going to park their car-next to the curb or 3 ft. away. I don’t want to find out when they inadvertently bash the door. We’ll keep our fingers crossed the next storm isn’t too bad. Take it easy and stay safe.

      1. Now that you mention it, he IS looking a tad bit peaked. Maybe he needs to get on a vitamin regimen.

I hate parking lots in general. This time of year just makes it that much worse. It’s roller derby, without the concessions or the programs.

Vitamin D would be good but he’d have a shortened life.

Parking lots are the pits. I always parkl the last row farthest away from the entrance. People don’t want to walk any farther than they have to. Besides those extra steps buoy my soul before I have to deal with the jerks who are now inside. 😈

          1. Poor guy. He can’t win!

I do the same thing. I figure the walking will do me good and I stay away from everyone on the way in. Best we can hope for I guess!

  9. Thanks for the funnies! It is still snowing here at 4 pm and it started yesterday @ 9 am. Very cold, but pretty with about 14″ on the ground. A good storm! 😀

About 9 inches here, and overnight snow plows piled it back up on driveways. but we managed to dig out one of our cars and we’re just gonna use that one for awhile. Still need to hang artwork but at least there aren’t boxes piled up in stacks in the art studio. Have a productive week and stay warm, Paul.

Glad you enjoyed those memes, Terry. Equally glad that you still have power. Ice can be so deadly with power lines. Take good care and stay warm and cozy. Happy Monday.

  14. You made me laugh out loud twice. Thank you for that.

Prayers for all those affected by the storm.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

Delighted to hear you enjoyed today’s memes. I had to chuckle at the snowman. Some people are so clever. We’re keeping all those folks in the South without power in our thoughts and prayers. Having spent 3 days without power recently, they have my deepest condolences. It’s no fun. Thanks for adding up to the Monday blog. You’re always so sweet. Have a terrific Monday, dear Sandee.

HAHA….thanks for the giggles! We had a snow plow finally come down our main road at the bottom of our driveway but the snow “wall” is about four feet high and is mostly ICE so chances of us escaping to the main road are slim. We appreciate them doing the road but every single driveway is blocked now. At least we ALL have the same problem! Tee Hee……we aren’t going anywhere anyway – but hope to go to eye appointments on Thursday – wish us luck! Stay cozy!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

Yikes…sometimes those snow walls are worse than the actual snow that fell. Hope you don’t have to escape before massive melting. Stay safe.

Glad you enjoyed today’s smiles. Hopefully when you head out to your eye appointments, you’ll get to see the parking meme in person. 😉 Happy Monday.

  16. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

We don’t have wind, but the temps are very low for us. 15 degrees last night and 24 right now (10:23 Central time). Fun post, Monika.

It was zero at midnight (thanks for the outdoor visit, Wilson) but when you add wind chill, it was a quick visit! The wind has died down a bit and the sun is shining. It’s a beautiful day even if it’s chilly. This afternoon should be just fine. Have a wonderful Monday!

  17. Hang in there! We don’t usually get an overwhelming amount of snow at The Golden K but enough to know how frustrating it can be to clear your driveway of snow only to have another snowfall, or wing as in your case, make it icy again. I have it on good authority that there will be a spring and summer payback for this ice storm. Best way to stay warm is the cuddle with your dog. Just sayin’… 😎🐾

Oh trust me, we don’t have ity anywhere near as bad as back East or in the South. We received little snow but the winds today were a bit of a surprise. Snow shoveling is a bit likje doing the dishes, there’ll be more at the next meal. There’ll be lots of cuddling this afternoon after Wilson gets all floofed and sweet smelling. Happy Monday, Mike.

Winter in the Mile High isn’t as bad as the upper Midwest for example but with climate change, extreme weather is sadly becoming more common everywhere. Have a great Monday, Jacqui!

  19. Too funny! Our street (a main one in the city, and one way) allows parking both sides, always a mess: FedEx/UPS stopping both sides, city buses pausing for passengers, general ongoing construction of one side or t’other blocking a lane here or there, so through traffic … good luck! Yesterday, today … like magic, not a parked vehicle in sight, where do they all go? Snow emergency, not allowed. Why can’t they all “stay gone” and we’d have a normal street, always … especially for emergency vehicles who so rarely are paid attention to as they struggle to get to nearby hospitals. Yes: let’s make every day a “snow emergency day”, whether there is snow or not.

Thanks and Happy Monday! We’re right there with you on emergency declarations. We howled at the lawnchair snowman in particular. One of the reasons I moved was because the traffic was so bad. Being on a corner lot, I saw it all and after the city installed a driving circle (under the guise of limiting incidents with bicyclists), it became worse. Way too many large trucks try to navigate the intersection and they barely fit before the obstacle circle was installed. I saw several vehicles need to be towed because they got high centered on the slope into the storm sewers. Makes you wonder who the moron was that designed it. Stay warm and safe.

  20. Wilson, it’s cold here too, but with parking that snowman 😉 it doesn’t matter😹Stay warm dear furriends. Double warm Pawkisses for a Happy Day to the both of you🐾😽💞

Happy Monday to you, my friend. Our snow started last night and will go all day and it’s not overly warm but not cold enough to stop me from taking a walk later 🙂 It’s 7F (feels like -9)

  22. We had heavy winds on and off for a few days with the bitter cold. Mom was out putting the snow back where it belongs every morning. That parking lot is so typical. Our parking lots all look like that in the winter. People use it as an excuse to park however they feel like parking, LOL! Have a nice week.
