Make a Wish Monday ~ September 16, 2019

Three years ago, a skinny, shut-down black Standard Poodle joined the pack and life hasn’t been the same ever since. Today is Elsa’s 3rd ‘Gotcha’ Day and I couldn’t be happier she found her way into my life. You can read more about her story here.

Elsa

Sure it’s true, I’ve suffered from her munching of multiple pairs of reading glasses, wool socks, and other assorted household items and I’ve learned to cope with the devastating diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy, but this clever girl has truly blossomed into quite the Princess.

From a shut-down, puppy mill survivor to the spunky, hilarious Ninja of today, Elsa learned to wag her tail when she experienced joy and came to love playing with toys. She’s definitely come a long way from that fateful autumn day three years ago. The birthday girl must have realized today is a special day since she let me sleep in to 4:45 a.m. this morning (from her normal “GOOD MORNING!”  bark requesting the desire to come up on the bed rather than the usual 4:35). With this girl, I’ll happily accept those extra ten minutes and continue to enjoy those daily early morning snores snuggles.

Sam & ElsaHappy Gotcha Day, sweet Elsa. Keep making everyone around you smile and continue to thrive while bringing smiles to those who love you. Even your Knuckleheaded brother sends happy greetings.

Elsa

One of the most inspiring footnotes to Elsa’s story is the fact that she has (knock on wood) remained seizure-free since last November. She continues learning how to be a ‘normal’ dog  and how to enjoy life. There’s still seems to be more room for her to grow and learn so I look forward to more continued progress, both physically and emotionally. High five, Ninja.Elsa

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. Six months is nothing to sneeze at-good for you! Sadly, the day after the post, Elsa had a small seizure so our clock had to be reset. 😕 Must have jinxed it by bragging on her. Doggone it. Stay strong, Mitzie.

    1. Thanks for the well wishes, Ruby. So Ellen went to the dark side, eh? BOL All kidding aside, good for her. Any breed of pup that gets rescued is A-Ok in our books. 👍🏻

  3. Yay, Elsa! Happy Gotcha Day. Your mom is incredible, isn’t she? She has nurtured you so well. I am thrilled to read of your seizure-free time. Shyla just hit one year without a seizure so we know how it is…

    Have a big celebration!

    1. Hats off to you for a one year anniversary! Yay…that’s such pawsome news! The life of a epi-pup mom is full of extra challenges and we all need to celebrate each other’s victories. Thank you for the kind thoughts.

    1. Thanks, Cupcake. I think she’s pretty happy here and has been making up for lost time in puppy mill prison.

    1. Why thank you, Molly. It doesn’t seem possible it’s been 3 years already but we’re sure happy she’s here.

    1. Nice try, Frank. Treats are never in as much of a short supply as a good IPA or lager around here.

        1. She’s a complete pushover for my baby browns, beer wouldn’t be necessary. 🍺
          Your fur-iend,
          Elsa 🐾

    1. She continues to impress me. All she needed was a loving home who could show her that life can be good.

    1. Our pleasure, John. I always feel so grateful we managed to rescue her. She’s been so worth it!

    1. We got lucky with Elsa. Sadly, many of the others rescued with her weren’t quite as lucky.

  5. Happy Gotcha Day, Elsa! Elsa’s story is so heartbreaking in many ways. The first years in a a puppy mill, then this lucky girl got a loving home, where she and her needs are understood.
Many, many hugs Elsa, enjoy your life!
    Kristiina and Kosmo

    1. Many thanks Kristiina and Kosmo. It’s been a real ‘adventure.’ She was so lucky to have a brother like Sam who could show her how to be a dog.

    1. Thank you, Marco. I know I’m biased but she really is a pretty girl. And a ‘Virgo’ which may explain a lot. LOL

  6. HAPPY GOTCHA DAY. We love to read about you and your brother. My brother thinks you are beautiful
    With love Hope and Charlie

  7. Awww, they are both adorable. You’re so blessed to have them.

Have a woof woof day and week, you two. My best to your wonderful mom. ♥

  8. Famous pairs:
    Laurel and Hardy
    Abbott and Costello
    Ninja and Knucklehead.
The only thing that prevents them running for President and VP next year is that they’re from the same state.

    1. You mean paws aren’t the disqualifier? Hmm, guess I’ve been wrong about some of the dogs running for higher office. 😈

  9. HGD Elsa! It’s hard to believe I’ve been reading about you for three years. Those must be dig years, right? 😎. Here’s to many more months and years of no seizures, lots of antics, and more great memories. And BTW, lay off them reading glasses, ok?

    1. LOL, yes, ‘dig years’ must be on par with dog years. I hope the remaining glasses remain in tact, but mostly I hope for many years with this stealthy clever girl.

    1. Thank you. I hope all dog moms hug their little balls of fur a bit more today for puppy mill survivors like Elsa today. There’s so much love in those dogs just waiting to share it.

    1. It does seem hard to wrap my head around the 3 year anniversary, too. She’s been such a remarkable and smile-inducing addition.

  10. Elsa, I’m so glad you live at the ranch now! What a beauty you are… many many more happy years to you all

    1. Thank you! I couldn’t be happier with the addition of the Ninja (well, I could if there hadn’t been 4 pairs of glasses etc. chewed up along the way but they have been a minor hiccup on this adventure). 💖

    1. Thanks; she’s got her paws crossed. For both the extra attention as well as the seizure free status.

    1. She really has come a very long way and suspect there’s still much more fun and good times to come.

    1. Thanks da Phenny. We’re all pretty thrilled with our good fortune with fur-iendships in Blogville. Happy birthday from a couple of Virgos to your mum.
