Welcome to Friday, the day we share some of the amazing sights nature provides us. As usual, we are joining our buddies, Rosy and her brothers from LLB in our Backyard for this week’s edition.
It’s been snowy and cold in the Mile High and I’m still trying to acclimate to an unusually snowy month. Normally January and February are the driest months of the year but this year January was unseasonably warm and February has been unseasonably wet. Let’s just say my body is still in tune with the climate of the Caribbean but I won’t torment you with more beach images, instead, let’s check out the local fauna of the region.
While cruising around the Gulf of Mexico, I saw a number of animals I was familiar with but others that were completely new to my eyes. From iguanas to sloths and a few other unusual critters, I was enchanted like a small child at the sheer number of the different varieties encountered.
This Scarlet Macaw (the national bird of Honduras) was surprisingly heavy when he sat on my head. Who knew parrots had that much heft to go along with that gorgeous plumage?
Two Capuchin monkeys, Pinky and Coco greeted our tour group and Pinky, obligingly climbed on board everyone’s shoulders. She was very sweet and we were told she enjoyed being stroked. Mostly I think she was waiting for pieces of fruit from her handler, Kevin, but hey, what do I know about what monkeys want/need. Normally I’m not into monkeys but Pinky proved to be quite charming.
I missed hearing what kind of animal this little guy was but he had such an adorable expression on his face, who could resist taking a photo of him/her.
We’re in for two days of nice temperatures (low 50’s) and the dogs and I plan to enjoy every single warm degree. Naturally it all comes to a screeching halt on Sunday when [yet] another snowstorm is forecast so we’ll see how the weekend morphs into next week. I know the Three Amigos of the Ranch will happily welcome more snow to mush through. We hope you have a ‘wagnificent’ weekend. Get out there and enjoy all the wondrous things that nature offers.

Wonderful pictures, Monika! I’ll be thinking of you the first week of March as I escape our particularly snowy February… Honestly. Nothing in December, almost nothing in January and then BAM! Da hell? March is renowned for having the worst storms in this neck so we are just hoping it stays away so we can catch our flights outta here!
Nature is seriously messed up this year. Got my fingers crossed for ya!

We have had a lot of small snowstorms, lots of ice, but no big storms – yet!!! This weekend is promising lots of rain on Sunday. We wish it were snow, but Mom not so much.
That parrot is gorgeous – awesome plumage.

We’ve had some melting of snow but still have piles of it. There are some muddy spots that seem to invite paw prints.

You may just have jinxed it…a fierce storm is forecast Sunday which may head right toward you, depending on the direction of the gulf stream.

If your weather is anything like ours, I leave my out until the middle of May. We’ve had snow the week of Mother’s Day the past 3 years. The scary part is March and April are our snowiest months and we’ve had a number of storms this month, the driest month. 😳
No, we’re much more moderate. We may get a storm in March but it’s a rumor two days later.
Spring storms are the best. Come in with a fury, dump a bunch of snow, then leave quickly without lingering cold and ice. My kind of storm. 😊
Any storm I can ride through with a bottle of vino and my lasagna is my kind of storm, indeed.
That combo almost makes me pray for the next storm!

We are used to gorgeous parrots who live in the Parrot Jungle nearby and visit our courtyard once in a while, raising deafening racket. but the other animals are adorable – thank you for sharing, dear da-Al!

They are pretty messy. I was afraid either the parrot or the monkey would “baptize” me. Luckily, they didn’t 😁
Enjoy your snow. So far, we’ve had 2″ all winter! Very unusual for us but I’m not complaining.
The word “enjoy” might be a tad bit of an overstatement at this point. After gobs of seed catalogues and box stores hawking spring activities (not to mention the recent trip to warmer climates), I’m pretty much officially done with winter. Alaska can have it/keep it as far as I’m concerned.

is that a bush baby ? Pinky has the cutest little hands. Parrots are big birds with big voices. My MD neighbor had one they put on the screened porch sometimes, and it’s screech sounded out throughout the neighborhood!
I think it might actually be a Kinkajou now that the FACE Foundation mentioned it! 😊
