Monday Musings ~ Tax Day 2024

In case you somehow missed it, today is the deadline to file your income taxes in the U.S. While you may file an extension, you still need to include any payment of any taxes owed with the extension. Can anyone explain the point of doing that?

Luckily, the Ranch Hands filed theirs last month, quickly received a refund and then immediately signed it over to the vet {grimace}.Taxes

While I’d have loved to file this form with our return, I’m not sure Uncle Sam would have found it as humorous as I did. No offense, but I often have wondered if having no sense of humor was a hard requirement for all employees who work for the IRS. With the 2017 revision of the tax code, itemization seems to have become a relic of the past.

Despite today’s deadline, we still hope you are able to tackle today…lo the entire week, with loads of humor and grace. It’s a gorgeous spring day here in the 303-we hope you are able to make it yours wherever you are. Happy Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Mom has her accountant do taxes because she is not a numbers kind of person. Our refund too went to the dogs, but she is thankful when some money comes back to cover our yearly flea/tick vet visit and meds.

    1. I don’t blame your mom for getting an accountant to handle her taxes. I had one for years but he retired. Now a tax service seems to do the job adequately. It’s one of my least favorite chores but glad someone can handle it for me since I’m clueless about numbers and the confusing tax regulations.

  2. I’m pretty sure we both would be getting a big refund if we could only file that form, Monika! Hubby took off work today to finish ours that he’s been working on since January.

  3. I always do mine when all the required forms are received. That makes it about Feb 15 or so. I loved the pet form and would want to be able to use it. Thanks, Monika. I hope you have a super week.

    1. I think every pet owner would love to use that form. If for no other reason than for a smile. 😊

        1. …don’t forget the vets. They have to be smiling just a little by keeping our fur loves healthy.

  4. Ha, loved that form! Tax Day in not a day to celebrate, methinks. It always peeves me that those with vast resources pay little in taxes, while the rest of us pay gobs. How does that work? 😠

    1. The system seems to be rigged in their favor and sadly we keep sending the same vested interests back to Congress. 😬

  5. No joke. Mom has a friend who worked his whole career at the IRS. He has NO SENSE OF HUMOR WHATSOEVER even though he’s retired now.
    #hardrequirement

    Love and licks,

    1. It must take a certain personality to have to deal with such drudgery. I know I couldn’t do it and more than happy to pay others to figure it out for me! Happy Tax Day, Cupcake.

  6. Hubby filed our taxes last month too. We had to pay though. We do quarterlies. I wish our government would spend our tax money better.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays as always.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Scritches to the pups. ♥

    1. I agree-roads & schools are a mess yet the priorities seem off. Sigh. Thanks for linking us up. You’re so sweet. Happy Monday.

  7. Gorgeous spring day here too, hooray! Taxes done by a professional. With the pet sitting business and investment/retirement funds, that’s more than I want to learn or manage. So I have no tax worries today – just foster kitten worries – and can enjoy the sun.

    1. There are worse worries to have than foster kittens. Hope it’s going well. Yeah, I remember the days of business deductions, etc. I’d rather set my hair on fire than do taxes! Enjoy your springtime Monday.

  8. We have someone do our taxes because the laws and rules and exceptions and inclusions are too complicated to keep up with. We got a refund but it doesn’t take long to spend it these days that’s for sure.

    Hugs, Pam

    1. Even without the deductions, itemizations, etc. I still have a professional do mine. I practically break out in hives whenever the subject of tax filing comes up. Was grateful for a small refund but had earmarked it for a house project. Oh well. My ‘house project’ is currently snoozing on the sofa. LOL Happy Monday

  9. My girls have regularly accused me of taxation without representation. But hey, it’s good to be king. And at The Golden K my subjects have nothing to complain about and they know it. Bottomless (kind of) treats, playtime, and love. Have a good week at the ranch. I hope it is not too taxing (sorry!, couldn’t resist) on the Ranch Hands.

    1. Hahahaha, I saw what you did there…and I liked it! Happy Monday, Mike. And please give the Golden Girls a good ear rub from me.

  10. Luckily, here in Canada, we have an extra fifteen days and must file by April 30.
I am happy to say mine is done and no money is coming my way, dammit.
I think there should be one for pets – they cost us a pretty penny!

    1. Once again you guys up north do things a bit more civilized. Course, there will always be people who will wait until the last second before filing. Guess that’s just human nature and not per any specific country. P.S. Congrats to Canada for winning the women’s world ice hockey championship. Well done!

      1. Haha! Fifteen days is fifteen days 😉
My two kids managed to NOT file last year so this year was a double. At least they did do it.
And yes! How cool is our women’s team! Woot!

  11. I do my taxes early because I couldn’t stand being inside doing the nasty when it’s warm and the sun is shining (like it is today!). Wish I could take a deduction for vet bills. 🙁

    1. Wouldn’t that be a worthy deduction?! Doing it as early in the new year as possible just seems to go alone with crummy weather.

  12. If I were president, I would allow pets to be considered dependents on our tax returns!!
I will be sharing the K-9 tax return – it is too funny.
Thanks for the much needed chuckle on a Monday morning!

  13. Happy Monday, Bruce. You make a very salient observation. If only Congress would actually solve problems instead of just making it about scoring political points for one side. Maybe I missed something, but I’ve never felt like renaming airports and post offices was very beneficial for most citizens.

  14. I think the tax code is similar to daylight savings time for me, Monika. It seems a vast majority want both changed, but somehow as the years go by neither is. On second thought, they do make the tax code more complicated so theirs that. 🙂 Have a good Monday and a great week!
