Monday Musings ~ July 7, 2025

WilsonIt’s the Monday after all hell broke loose this weekend. Wilson here…what is IT about you American chaps that you enjoy setting off fireworks…for days on end.  Ugh, I’m completely exhausted after listening to boomers for the past three days and while I don’t get as terrified as many dogs and cats do, I still hate them. If I had any say, I’d ban all the noisy ones. Life is ruff enough-we don’t need things to be more stressful. Anyway, let’s start the week out with a smile. Mum was saying how she could use an acupuncture session to relieve some tension in her neck but I told her to stay away from Ed telling her that she probably wouldn’t find his treatments very restorative or relaxing. Aren’t I a good boy for warning her? I hope she appreciates me for looking out for her.

We hope your week is relaxing after the holiday weekend. Happy Monday!

Live, love, bark! 🐾

Thank you. Especially given that so much of the country is broiling and landscapes are so tinder dry, fireworks are completely insane. Not to mention how traumatic it is for pets and all those humans that struggle with PTSD.

  2. Lulu: “I’m with you, Wilson. The fireworks start, I go hide under Dada’s desk.”
Java Bean: “Up in Anaheim, they did a big drone show over Angel Stadium. It looked very cool. We think the humans should do more of that and less of the blowing things up, but being humans, they probably won’t …”

Personally I’m opposed to fireworks, but there are low and no-noise versions which would help. We think drones and/or laser shows would be a much better solution, but like you said Bean…it’s doubtful humans would go along with that. We think it’s crazy people want to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks that come from a foreign country that does not like democracy. 😬

Our poor Tegan was a trembling wreck by the time the flash-booms stopped. Really beginning to dislike the Fourth when people can’t limit themselves to a few fireworks at reasonable times. Or better yet, go find a display. Sheesh!

Aww, poor thing. Yeah, I’m so over fireworks. Two went off again last night…at 1:15 am! Fourth night in a row that people have set boomers off in the middle of the night. Argh.

  4. BellaDharma an BellaSita Mum – On Georgian Bay..... – Welcome to THE Purrfect Pad. My name is Sherri-Ellen & my current Kitty Girl is BellaDharma a black part Siamese cat. I started blogging in August 2005 on Yahoo 360 with Mingflower my Bluepoint Siamese. Then transferred to Multiply...Mingflower went to Summerland & NYLABLUE my BluePoint Siamese/Burmese cross took over. When Multiply was closing a handful of our blogging friends recommended WordPress & we found a home here & made many new friends. Everyone followed the antics & struggles of NYLABLUE until her passing Nov. 22nd, 2014 to Summerland. A week later a little bouncing Burmese boy I met at a local adoption event joined me here! Dec. 9th, 2014. Purrince Siddhartha Henry came to live with me & regaled us with his journey towards 'Enlightenment'. He was a Burmese Buddhist with many health issues but he searched for meaning in his Life. After his lifelong struggle with Panleukopenia. Siddhartha Henry lost his battle & left for Pure Land August 28th, 2018. He was only 4 years & 1 month old. I've never totally gotten over the loss of my "Little Man". And this is where I get VERY serious. This Purrfect Pad blog is not all sunshine & roses. This blog is about REAL life with special needs cats who come into my life. We share our time together & we share the good, the bad & the ugly. This is a REAL blog. Yes we DO laugh & have fun & take Selfies! And we share each cat's struggles whether health issues or behavioural problems. And we share about my ongoing battle with 3 health conditions that can render me unable to walk plus having Cirrhosis of Liver & Seizures. We ask our friends & followers to respect that THE Purrfect Pad is anything but 'purrfect'. I am disabled & each of my cats' have had special needs. Everyone is welcome here as long as you are kind & respectful. If you have questions feel free to ask them. Sept. 6th, 2018 BellaDharma aka Baby Girl joined THE Purrfect Pad. We hope all of you will follow our life together as BellaDharma learns how to be a domesticated cat instead of a semi-feral one.... Love, Peace & Treets, Sherri-Ellen (BellaSita Mum) & BellaDharma & 'angels' Purrince Siddhartha Henry; Nylablue 'Sweet Feet' & Mingflower the Merciless & all my other cats who have shared my life with me. You are all loved & remembered...

  5. Remember when smoking in public was accepted. Hopefully, someday shooting off fireworks will be seen as hazardous as smoking in public

  6. thomasstigwikman – Dallas, Texas – My name is Thomas Wikman. I am a software/robotics engineer with a background in physics. I am currently retired. I took early retirement. I am a dog lover, and especially a Leonberger lover, a home brewer, craft beer enthusiast, I’m learning French, and I am an avid reader. I live in Dallas, Texas, but I am originally from Sweden. I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. With this blog I would like to create a list of facts that are accepted as true among the experts of the field and yet disputed amongst the public or highly surprising. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.
    thomasstigwikman says:

Fireworks was/is a problem for us too. Our mini-Australian Shepherd Rollo was traumatized by fireworks. An illegal rocket misfired, landed next to us, and loudly exploded. It was 4th of July in the middle of the neighborhood, with the street filled with kids and dog walkers, and it was very unnecessary and dangerous. Even I was traumatized, but now he really hates fireworks. It did not bother some of the dogs that we had in the past. Fireworks did not bother our Leonberger, our pug, and our labrador, but it bothered the other dogs.

      Tails Around the Ranch says:

Thanks, Thomas. It’s terrible how many pets are impacted. July 5 is the busiest day of the entire year for shelters. With all the military veterans and others who experience PTSD, I’m shocked there isn’t better compliance. Then again, if people would stop buying fireworks made in a country that doesn’t respect democracy, it might make a difference. And there’s nothing patriotic about terrorizing people and pets, no matter how much alcohol is served at neighborhood BBQ’s.

  7. I’m with you on the fireworks business, Wilson. But I fear our complaints will fall on deaf ears . . figuratively AND literally.

But you came up with some solid advice for mama so there is that!

Sorry about the loud fireworks 🎆.
Hope you can enjoy the peace this week and get some extra snoozing in!
    Happy Monday!
Oh, and Monika, I did post a story today, but it’s not showing up on the reader. You have to go to my site. The WP gremlin is up to his tricks.

Hmm, I’ll check the post out. Normally I receive notifications so I’ll check and see. Wilson and I have been at hospital today and are digging out the inbox. Toodles.

  9. OMD! We all need to stay away from Ed! And if you find a way to ban noisy fireworks, we’ll sign the petition! (You so know we all have unique pawprints!) XOX Xena and Lucy

Trust me, it’s going to be the squeaky wheel that gets those hideous things banned. We all have to make noise and hold politicians to task. That and probably sky high tariffs added to the imports from countries that don’t share our idea of democracy. 🙄

  10. Aww Wilson, you are such a good boy for warning your mum about Ed and yes, we too wish fireworks would be banned forever. We wish you both a happy Monday and a peaceful new week ahead 🐾❤️✨️ xxx

Sorry for the fireworks, Wilson. Our dogs hated them, too. At least in this area, we had fewer this year than in previous years, but they sure were annoying. I hope you have a nice week.

  13. I totally agree with you on fireworks! They are an absolute nuisance, bad fir theenvironment, and ever so scary for animals. I’m all out for a total ban!

Yay! We agree 100%. It’s really dumb celebrating Independence Day by setting off noisy fireworks imported form a country that does not subscribe to democracy.

  14. My Golden Life – Upstate South Carolina – I love animals, especially dogs. I enjoy US history, and reading biographies of our former presidents and other historical figures. I love the music of the '60s and '70s since I was growing up in those decades. I love the Beatles and Andy Williams equally.
    My Golden Life says:

Oh my goodness, that cartoon cracked me up! In all seriousness, though, acupuncture – when done by a qualified person – can be wonderful. I know it did wonders for Ducky.

As to fireworks, I agree with you – we need the quiet ones. I have to admit, though, that this year in our ‘hood was MUCH quieter than years gone by. I don’t know if old neighbors were replaced with more considerate ones or what; but I barely heard any over the weekend. Kids were shooting some off at the back of the ball field across the road, but they didn’t last very long. They had Zen a little unsettled at first, but he kept playing with Zoey and me and was fine by the time we went back inside. They both barked at the first few we heard once we were inside; but other than 2 or 3 extra loud ones, both Zs were unfazed the rest of the night.

      Tails Around the Ranch says:

I swear by acupuncture. Just a bit leery of porcu-puncture. LOL I’m so puzzled by the penchant Americans have for fireworks. Celebrating Independence Day by buying fireworks from a country that abhors democracy seems pretty incongruent to me. Glad the dogs survived the holiday in what sounds like not too bad of an experience. It’s good Zen was distracted by Zoey. That can help them overcome their initial fear. Have a great Monday.

  15. Living in mostly the forest there is happily zero tolerance for any fireworks. Even the dumb people aren’t that dumb. Wilson, you may be interested to know that two of my kids live in suburban areas where over the years the illegal, fireworks have gotten out of control. They both told me that the “authorities” are now using drones to see where the source of these bottle rockets and other things are coming from and will fine the homeowner of record thousands of dollars if the drone photos determine illegal fireworks were coming from their property. Meanwhile, I’m in full agreement that Ed’s techniques may be a little much.

Have a good week at the ranch. I hope the boom booms are dome for the heat.

Loud fireworks are illegal in the city yet people manage to buy them and set them off. They’re legal in Wyoming and people flock to Cheyenne for them and bring them back into Colorado fr their celebrations…for hours and days on end. Ugh. I wish people would switch to lasers and/or drones and leave the noisy ones behind. As long as we keep importing fireworks from foreign countries that don’t subscribe to democracy, we end up putting our pets, military veterans and PTSD sufferers in harm’s way. Have a great week, Mike.

Ole Ed may have trouble getting insurance companies to pay for his quick efficient treatment methods. 🤣

  16. For the first time ever, Mom decided to leave home because of the holiday weekend. Even she doesn’t enjoy the booms at all hours of the day and night and for three days. It worked really well, and we did not hear even one! Hopefully the fools in your area are done now and you all can get some rest.

HAHA! Now that’s an incredibly painful yet at the same time incredibly efficient method of acupuncture…..ouch. We think someone should invent noiseless fireworks. We could still enjoy seeing them without having to HEAR them.

  18. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.
    John W. Howell says:

I’m with Wilson. I just don’t understand the fireworks situation. They are illegal in our town, yet people shoot them off. I would avoid Ed too. Thanks for the laughs this morning.

Same here. Apart from the noise which isn’t necessary, I find it ironic our country goes gah-gah celebrating independence using fireworks produced by a country that abhors democracy.

  19. We didn’t have much noise this year. We were happy about that and the kitties were very happy. I’m sorry poor Wilson had such noise for three nights.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous and restful day and week. A big healing hug to mom and lots of scritches to Wilson. ♥

Glad you and the kitties weren’t to impacted by the noise. Our neighborhood always goes overboard, usually fueled by too much beer by the younger members of the area. We cannot imagine how many military veterans feel about all this racket. We’re especially grateful for very thick walls on the 4th. Have a wonderful week, dear Sandee.

Mum usually loves those treatments and has decided Ed is a bit of a sharlitan. There seems to be a lot of that bait and switch stuff going on around here. Hope you get some relief. A dodgy back is never fun.

Yeah my Mum grumbled about your neighbor saying he wasn’t very patriotic…and is turning things into a terrible reality show. Hang in there and have a good Monday and better week.
