Remember Me Thursday

RMT18_Blogger_badge

Today is a special day known as Remember Me Thursday, a “global awareness campaign uniting individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world as an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.”

As you may know, rescue is very important to me. Having rescued a number of pets over the years and most recently rescuing my little black Ninja, Elsa who developed epilepsy two weeks after her adoption, Given the opportunity to shed a light on a  topic near and dear to my heart, I will whenever I can.

Far too many pets languish in shelters waiting for someone to rescue them so we hope on this day that people will consider adoption. I know each time I’ve adopted a dog, be they from a shelter or a rescue group, I have been so very well rewarded by these amazing creatures throughout my life. I continue to love and share amazing adventures with my little Ninja as I watch her ongoing development.

I hope you will consider saving a life and experience the joy of knowing you made a difference for a shelter pet in the future.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. twoonfourfeet – I really can count, but I can’t seem to exercise restraint when it comes to adopting dogs. Three dogs can’t be any more trouble than two, right?

Rescues are the best even when they are terrors like mine! I am glad you share stories of your rescued darlings.

And boy do we have stories galore when it comes to these knuckleheads. 😁

  2. I have to say, Delilah has been a large challenge for me, and we really struggled at times, but the investment has paid off in spades.

I would never hesitate to rescue again. Thanks for writing about this, and thanks for being so committed to the Black Ninja. A lot of people would have given up.

  8. Sometimes when adopting, you’re really taking a chance….will you get the pet you hoped for? But that’s true even when you buy a puppy or kitten from a breeder. While maybe we don’t always get what we expected, we always get exactly what we need – a whole lotta love and much, much more.

Your comment questioning whether it disappeared was approved this morning. Your comment about your rescues also appeared. Was there another one you left that didn’t show up? I will grant there was a delay due to time zone for which I apologize. All comments are ‘approved’ and since the comments came in the middle of the night, Denver time and didn’t get approved until this morning. So sorry for all the hassles. WP can’t seem to remedy problems on the site satisfactorily. I’m pretty much at my wits end.

Benji is a rescue dog – Chienne and the Man my two dogs before Benji were both adopted, and my dogs before that were also adopted, as was Buster and Scruffy before them. Every dog I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with has been a rescue dog. Benji may well be the last, although I began my life with a West Highland Terrier that my dad got me when I was a boy and I would like to end my life With a Westie. Unlikely though, Benji is a fit as a horse :o)

  14. Does rescuing them before they hit the shelter count? 🙂 If so, I’ve had several, including Lucy, and yes, they do make great pets. Oh, I tried to rescue a schnauzer, but for a whole year couldn’t find one in a shelter, and the only rescue group I found wouldn’t let me!

  15. Groovy Goldendoodles – VA – Just a wife and mother (military spouse / retired) that waited almost all her life for a dog of her own. Tried to have them from time to time with little children, but moving so often it was too difficult. Waited patiently for the right time and the right dog.... That time has finally arrived and we were blessed with the Grooviest Goldendoodles ever! Harley carried on with a "solo" act for almost a year after the untimely passing of 4 yr old Leo. Now he and his younger spunkier brother Jaxson plan to share all their canine adventures and antics living in pet friendly Charleston SC, exploring pet friendly places and pet therapy work at the Medical University of South Carolina. Hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing. Visit http://www.groovygoldendoodles.com anytime.

  18. Every cat & dog I’ve had have been a rescue in one form or another. Poor BellaDharma was in a room at the shelter for 2 years, minus a 2 week (so-called) adoption & a 6-8 week adoption that also fell thru’. For the Life of me, I’ve no idea why she was overlooked. She does not like other cats & is scared of dogs….in both adoptions another cat was brought in & BellaDharma shut down. She will never have to worry about that here. I prefer 1 cat at a time…..
Loved your post Monika! Elsa you look wonderful….
