Monday Musings ~ April 10, 2023

Norman & ElsaGood morning, peeps and welcome to Monday.  Did you know today is National Hug Your Dog Day?

Elsa: As if we need a reason around the Ranch.

Norman: Spot on, ninja. Do you know the history behind this wonderful day? Apparently it was the brainchild of Ami Moore,, a professional dog trainer and behavior expert, and created for dog owners to appreciate all the joy their dogs bring them and to shower them with love.

Elsa: Well, I for one didn’t need someone to create a special day to be appreciated but will enjoy the extra attention that no doubt will be showered on both us following an attention showering over the Easter weekend.

Norman: You’re so right, little one. Our Mum showers us with attention all the time. Let’s give her and all uprights a special day for attention. Course, you know not all dogs appreciate hugs but there are other ways you can give them the special attention they so deserve.

Elsa: Good point, fur face. You could take them on a nice walk and let them sniff to their heart’s content. Or…how about a special doggie date? With extra wonderful treats?

Norman: Treats?? Ooh yes, count me in!

Elsa:  Now, now, big guy, don’t get carried away. Just because treats are involved, it’s not good to overdo it.

Norman: {sad face} You’re probably right, sister. Today’s the day where you can celebrate some key moments in dog history. (1) Scientists believe dogs have been domesticated for about 15,000 years. (2) In the 1700’s, Dalmatian dogs were used to assist firefighters. (3) One of the most beloved dogs in America galloped into human’s hearts when Eric Knight published “Lassie” in 1940. (4) In 1954 the Humane Society was founded. Today it’s believed they save approximately 1.6 million dog lives each year.

Elsa: You probably know about this little factoid. In 1973 federal law allowed “emotional support and guidance dogs” to bypass the “no pet” restrictions in public housing.

Norman: Us dogs make life easier for humans in so many ways. It’s good to know that humans are focused on our well-being. In 2017 Thundershirts were created to hug dogs who struggle with when they get stressed during thunderstorms and similar situations.

Elsa: We like it when humans do those kinds of nice things for us. Hey, how about we can get Mom to tune into a special dog-themed movie tonight while she’s hugging us.

Norman: Oooh, count me in. However you celebrate today, we hope you get your fair share of hugs and/or attention and have a super Monday.

Elsa: And don’t forget to smile today but especially don’t forget to hug your dog.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

Dalton and Benji are not the biggest fans of cuddles, but they do love head cuddles….such as chin or ear scritches.
Though sometimes D will jump into the chair and settle down behind me…but he has the do not touch sign turned on…poor thing has SO much baggage about just about anything.
I can’t let him do that if hubby is around because he’ll grump and growl to ‘protect’ me…yikes!

We think ear rubs are. the. absolute. best. We also think most pets are not big fans of traditional hugging but they rather enjoy a good belly rub or ear scritch.

Benji has nothing to fear when it comes to loving attention and hugs. Neither do we, but we thought it was interesting. There has to be a pet centric day just about every day. You’d think Hallmark was behind it. LOL

  4. Are you two giving out hugs? Because I’d defnitely stand in line for that …

Around this house EVERY day is “Hug Your Dog Day”! But they give me hugs, too!

I love the expression on Norman’s face in that photo, especially combined with the head tilt! And, oh, the Ninja! That face is so telling of the soul behind it!

Hugs, tail wags, and ear scritches from the 3 of us!

Our Mom said the same thing. We thought she was just being silly. We had no idea there was a special day for hugs. The Ninja is a kind of “still water runs deep girl” but she’s very into getting attention today…every day, come to think of it. 😆

I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.

Oh I didn’t know it was national hug your dog day today. I better hug my dogs then. Thank you for another inspirational and informative as well as funny post.

You’re very welcome. Happy to provide these PSA’s especially when there’s treats involved. 😉 We didn’t know about it either, thankfully, hugs around the Ranch are never in short supply.

  9. hey fellow bloggers
Today is National Hug Your Dog Day, created by professional dog trainer and behavior expert Ami Moore to encourage dog owners to appreciate the joy their dogs bring and shower them with love. While some dogs, like Elsa and Norman, don’t need a special day to be appreciated, they will certainly enjoy the extra attention that comes with it. The day is an opportunity for dog owners to spend quality time with their furry friends and show them how much they mean to them. While hugs may not be every dog’s favorite form of affection, there are other ways to show love and appreciation, such as going for a walk, playing fetch, or giving treats. Ultimately, National Hug Your Dog Day is a reminder to cherish the special bond between dogs and their owners and to take time to celebrate and honor it.

  15. BellaDharma an BellaSita Mum – On Georgian Bay..... – Welcome to THE Purrfect Pad. My name is Sherri-Ellen & my current Kitty Girl is BellaDharma a black part Siamese cat. I started blogging in August 2005 on Yahoo 360 with Mingflower my Bluepoint Siamese. Then transferred to Multiply...Mingflower went to Summerland & NYLABLUE my BluePoint Siamese/Burmese cross took over. When Multiply was closing a handful of our blogging friends recommended WordPress & we found a home here & made many new friends. Everyone followed the antics & struggles of NYLABLUE until her passing Nov. 22nd, 2014 to Summerland. A week later a little bouncing Burmese boy I met at a local adoption event joined me here! Dec. 9th, 2014. Purrince Siddhartha Henry came to live with me & regaled us with his journey towards 'Enlightenment'. He was a Burmese Buddhist with many health issues but he searched for meaning in his Life. After his lifelong struggle with Panleukopenia. Siddhartha Henry lost his battle & left for Pure Land August 28th, 2018. He was only 4 years & 1 month old. I've never totally gotten over the loss of my "Little Man". And this is where I get VERY serious. This Purrfect Pad blog is not all sunshine & roses. This blog is about REAL life with special needs cats who come into my life. We share our time together & we share the good, the bad & the ugly. This is a REAL blog. Yes we DO laugh & have fun & take Selfies! And we share each cat's struggles whether health issues or behavioural problems. And we share about my ongoing battle with 3 health conditions that can render me unable to walk plus having Cirrhosis of Liver & Seizures. We ask our friends & followers to respect that THE Purrfect Pad is anything but 'purrfect'. I am disabled & each of my cats' have had special needs. Everyone is welcome here as long as you are kind & respectful. If you have questions feel free to ask them. Sept. 6th, 2018 BellaDharma aka Baby Girl joined THE Purrfect Pad. We hope all of you will follow our life together as BellaDharma learns how to be a domesticated cat instead of a semi-feral one.... Love, Peace & Treets, Sherri-Ellen (BellaSita Mum) & BellaDharma & 'angels' Purrince Siddhartha Henry; Nylablue 'Sweet Feet' & Mingflower the Merciless & all my other cats who have shared my life with me. You are all loved & remembered...
