Monday Musings ~ April 10, 2023

Norman & ElsaGood morning, peeps and welcome to Monday.  Did you know today is National Hug Your Dog Day?

Elsa: As if we need a reason around the Ranch.

Norman: Spot on, ninja. Do you know the history behind this wonderful day? Apparently it was the brainchild of Ami Moore,, a professional dog trainer and behavior expert, and created for dog owners to appreciate all the joy their dogs bring them and to shower them with love.

Elsa: Well, I for one didn’t need someone to create a special day to be appreciated but will enjoy the extra attention that no doubt will be showered on both us following an attention showering over the Easter weekend.

Norman: You’re so right, little one. Our Mum showers us with attention all the time. Let’s give her and all uprights a special day for attention. Course, you know not all dogs appreciate hugs but there are other ways you can give them the special attention they so deserve.

Elsa: Good point, fur face. You could take them on a nice walk and let them sniff to their heart’s content. Or…how about a special doggie date? With extra wonderful treats?

Norman: Treats?? Ooh yes, count me in!

Elsa:  Now, now, big guy, don’t get carried away. Just because treats are involved, it’s not good to overdo it.

Norman: {sad face} You’re probably right, sister. Today’s the day where you can celebrate some key moments in dog history. (1) Scientists believe dogs have been domesticated for about 15,000 years. (2) In the 1700’s, Dalmatian dogs were used to assist firefighters. (3) One of the most beloved dogs in America galloped into human’s hearts when Eric Knight published “Lassie” in 1940. (4) In 1954 the Humane Society was founded. Today it’s believed they save approximately 1.6 million dog lives each year.

Elsa: You probably know about this little factoid. In 1973 federal law allowed “emotional support and guidance dogs” to bypass the “no pet” restrictions in public housing.

Norman: Us dogs make life easier for humans in so many ways. It’s good to know that humans are focused on our well-being. In 2017 Thundershirts were created to hug dogs who struggle with when they get stressed during thunderstorms and similar situations.

Elsa: We like it when humans do those kinds of nice things for us. Hey, how about we can get Mom to tune into a special dog-themed movie tonight while she’s hugging us.

Norman: Oooh, count me in. However you celebrate today, we hope you get your fair share of hugs and/or attention and have a super Monday.

Elsa: And don’t forget to smile today but especially don’t forget to hug your dog.

Smiles

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. We come to bring you both huggies and send out some to our two Angel Doggies too😺 That was a very interesting fact about the Dalmatiërs…we can picture it too😎 Double Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend to the both of you and your mommy too🐾😽💞 Ps the cartoon made us MOL😹

    1. Thank you. Us dogs never can receive too many hugs from our friends. Glad you enjoyed the cartoon in return.

  2. Dalton and Benji are not the biggest fans of cuddles, but they do love head cuddles….such as chin or ear scritches.
Though sometimes D will jump into the chair and settle down behind me…but he has the do not touch sign turned on…poor thing has SO much baggage about just about anything.
I can’t let him do that if hubby is around because he’ll grump and growl to ‘protect’ me…yikes!

    1. We think ear rubs are. the. absolute. best. We also think most pets are not big fans of traditional hugging but they rather enjoy a good belly rub or ear scritch.

  3. No I did not know that today was Hug Your Dog Day. I give Benji a hug most days, so I guess that sort of counts for not knowing

    1. Benji has nothing to fear when it comes to loving attention and hugs. Neither do we, but we thought it was interesting. There has to be a pet centric day just about every day. You’d think Hallmark was behind it. LOL

  4. Around this house EVERY day is “Hug Your Dog Day”! But they give me hugs, too!

I love the expression on Norman’s face in that photo, especially combined with the head tilt! And, oh, the Ninja! That face is so telling of the soul behind it!

Hugs, tail wags, and ear scritches from the 3 of us!

    1. Our Mom said the same thing. We thought she was just being silly. We had no idea there was a special day for hugs. The Ninja is a kind of “still water runs deep girl” but she’s very into getting attention today…every day, come to think of it. 😆

    2. He’s so photogenic and has such sweet expressive facial looks. And Elsa…well she’s one of those “water runs deep ” in her expressions and demeanor. Here’s to loads of hugs all around!

  5. I wish I could hug both of you and especially Norman. He’s so handsome and I so enjoy your conversation with each other.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a woof woof day and week. Scritches to the pups, a smooch to Norman and a big hug to mom. ♥

    1. Thanks Sandee. We’d gladly accept hugs from you! Thanks for the linkup. Happy Monday.

    1. You’re very welcome. Happy to provide these PSA’s especially when there’s treats involved. 😉 We didn’t know about it either, thankfully, hugs around the Ranch are never in short supply.

  6. hey fellow bloggers
Today is National Hug Your Dog Day, created by professional dog trainer and behavior expert Ami Moore to encourage dog owners to appreciate the joy their dogs bring and shower them with love. While some dogs, like Elsa and Norman, don’t need a special day to be appreciated, they will certainly enjoy the extra attention that comes with it. The day is an opportunity for dog owners to spend quality time with their furry friends and show them how much they mean to them. While hugs may not be every dog’s favorite form of affection, there are other ways to show love and appreciation, such as going for a walk, playing fetch, or giving treats. Ultimately, National Hug Your Dog Day is a reminder to cherish the special bond between dogs and their owners and to take time to celebrate and honor it.

    1. Aww, you’re too sweet. We delivered your hugs to our Mom and she was very happy. 🥰

  7. Yep I knew about today, but since I’m the one who takes all of the photos, I only have ONE of me hugging Levi and that’s from when he was a puppy! I hug him every day so it’s all good! (((hugs))) to your cuties!

    1. Thanks Caren. We’ll always accept hugs. Mom didn’t realize it was National Hug Your Dog Day. What kind of crummy Mom is that?! 😂 She did say she was sending digital hugs to Levi though. After she hugged us. 😉

    1. Many thanks; we’re grateful for all the hugs we got-both virtual and real.

    1. Thanks, girls. We hope you got a ton of hugs too (no doubt your Mom and Dad gave you lots!).

  8. Our hearts hurt for those dogs who are tied on on a leash and never get any love. XOX Lucy
Mommy says we always get paid for our love and attention to her and Daddy. She said it’s called room and board. XOX Xena

    1. We thought about that a lot during the day. So sad. We’re grateful for the room and board as well as the love. Every dog and cat should be as lucky as us.

  9. Mew mew mew grate comick Sweet Norman an Elsa an Miss Monika!

    1. Oooh, thanks for the hugs. That’s makes both of us happy. Have a ‘furbulous’ Monday.

  10. Some dog must have invented hug your human day…. I was taking a siesta yesterday and was surrounded by the thugs in no time at all…lots of doggy love. Or was it that they wanted my space….?

  11. If I was charged for all the emotional support my girls give me I’d remain emotionally thriving but financially ruined. 😉. Sending extra virtual hugs to the farm hands today. Have a good week. I hope your weather has improved. 75 forecast for the Golden K today…

    1. Thanks, Mike. Yeah, I’d have been bankrupted and in the poor house a long time ago. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.
